Red Dead Online added four Strange Tales of the West Telegram Missions in July 2025—not a separate zombie mode. To start, collect Theodore Levin’s letter from any Post Office or your Camp Lockbox, then open it from your Satchel or launch Telegram Missions from the Player Menu. The missions send players to face the undead in Armadillo, automatons near Braithwaite Manor, a creature in the Bayou, and a missing scientist in Tall Trees.
How do I start Red Dead Online’s zombie mission?
- Collect Theodore Levin’s letter at any Post Office or your Camp Lockbox.
- Open the letter from your Satchel, or select Telegram Missions from the Player Menu.
- Choose one of the four Strange Tales of the West missions. GameSpot’s July 1, 2025 guide reports a 20-minute cooldown after completing a mission before starting another.
The zombie scenario is called Strange Tales of the Plague. Rockstar announced the four missions on July 1, 2025, as new Telegram Missions in its Newswire post. The announcement’s premise is a malady turning people in Armadillo into shambling undead; the player retrieves infected bodies for scientific examination while avoiding infection and resisting cultists.

Rockstar’s official announcement describes the Plague and Modern Science scenarios; GameSpot’s contemporaneous guide supplies additional details for those missions and descriptions of the Bayou and Wilderness missions. The available descriptions do not establish a dependable difficulty ranking, so choose based on the setting or objective that interests you.
Are the launch rewards still available?
No. GameSpot reported that the launch-period 3X Gold, RDO$, and XP rewards ran through August 4, 2025. That promotion has expired; it should not be treated as a current reward offer.
