Yes, the Red Magic Gaming Tablet 3 Pro was real. REDMAGIC confirmed the name and announced a June 11, 2025 launch in China, but its first announcement revealed only a limited selection of specifications. The tablet later launched internationally as the REDMAGIC Astra Gaming Tablet.
That makes the original “specs still in the shadows” wording historically accurate, but no longer current. REDMAGIC has since published the international specification sheet, while newer compact gaming tablets have appeared in the company’s lineup. As of August 2026, the important questions are the tablet’s final specifications, regional availability, price, and whether an older Astra still makes sense against its successors.

What “name confirmed” meant before launch
At the pre-launch stage, “name confirmed” did not mean that REDMAGIC had published a complete product sheet. It meant that the company had publicly identified the product as the Gaming Tablet 3 Pro and had announced its launch event.

Early official imagery showed a flat, transparent-style gaming tablet with visible gaming-oriented design elements and active cooling. REDMAGIC positioned it as “smaller yet more powerful,” but that marketing description should not be treated as an independently verified performance ranking.
The final product: Gaming Tablet 3 Pro becomes REDMAGIC Astra
The most important naming clarification is that Gaming Tablet 3 Pro and REDMAGIC Astra Gaming Tablet refer to the same first-generation compact gaming-tablet product family in different markets. The Chinese product used the Gaming Tablet 3 Pro name, while REDMAGIC marketed the international version as Astra.

Therefore, someone searching for the Gaming Tablet 3 Pro today is generally not looking for an unreleased device. They are likely looking for the first-generation Astra, its Chinese-market counterpart, or remaining regional stock.

Display and gaming hardware
The Astra’s defining feature is its compact OLED panel. It measures 9.06 inches diagonally, uses a 2,400 × 1,504 resolution, and supports refresh rates up to 165Hz. The panel is listed at 313 pixels per inch, with DCI-P3 wide color coverage, Corning Gorilla Glass, SGS-certified eye protection, and a claimed peak brightness of 1,600 nits. REDMAGIC also lists 1,100 nits for full-screen brightness.
The high refresh rate is most useful in games that can actually render above 120 frames per second. It can improve scrolling and interface responsiveness as well, but 165Hz should not be mistaken for a guarantee that every demanding Android title will run at that frame rate.
REDMAGIC also lists up to 2,000Hz instant touch sampling and 240Hz multi-finger touch sampling. Those figures describe touch-input sampling behavior, not game performance. Actual responsiveness depends on the game, software, display mode, and network conditions.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite supplies the main processing power, while the RedCore R3 Pro is intended to support gaming functions. The tablet also includes Game Space tools, a Magic Key, external-controller support, and connectivity for peripherals such as keyboards, mice, and an external display.
Cooling: useful hardware, carefully worded claims
A compact tablet with a flagship mobile processor needs more than short benchmark bursts if it is to sustain performance during long gaming sessions. The Astra uses an active ICE-X cooling system built around a 20,000rpm turbofan, vapor chambers, Liquid Metal 2.0, graphene, copper foil, and an aluminum-alloy frame.

Active cooling has practical trade-offs. It can help the tablet maintain performance for longer, but a fan can also produce audible noise, introduce moving parts, and require more attention to dust and ventilation than a passively cooled tablet. The benefit is most relevant to sustained gaming, emulation, or other workloads rather than short sessions.
Battery, charging, and the box
The final international specification lists an 8,200mAh dual-cell battery. Early coverage and regional launch material associate the device with 80W charging, but buyers should verify the charging specification for their exact market rather than assume every regional package is identical.
Charger inclusion is particularly important. The official MEA launch material states that a power adapter was not included except for early-bird orders. A buyer may therefore need to purchase a compatible charger separately, depending on region and promotion. REDMAGIC’s official 80W charger page is relevant if the local package excludes an adapter, but electrical compatibility and cable requirements should be checked before purchase.

Ports, cameras, and software
The tablet has a 13MP rear camera and a 9MP front camera. The rear camera can record video at up to 4K and 30fps, while the front camera records at 1080p and 30fps. These cameras are adequate for basic scanning, video calls, and occasional photos, but photography is not the product’s central purpose.
Connectivity includes Wi-Fi 6-class support, Bluetooth 5.4, and USB 3.2 Gen 2. REDMAGIC lists DisplayPort output up to 2K. HDMI connection requires an adapter or converter rather than a built-in HDMI port.

The international model runs REDMAGIC OS 10.5 based on Android 15. The specification confirms the software version, but it does not by itself establish a long-term tablet-specific update commitment. Buyers who prioritize many years of guaranteed updates should compare REDMAGIC with platforms such as Apple or Samsung rather than judging only by processor performance.

Price and availability are regional
There is no single reliable worldwide current price for the original Astra. The reviewed official pages show different regional signals:

The answer depends less on whether the tablet is powerful—it is—and more on the price and the age of the platform.
It may still suit you if:
- You specifically want a compact Android gaming tablet rather than a larger model.
- You value an OLED display and high refresh rate.
- You want active cooling for long gaming sessions.
- You need generous storage or memory and can find a legitimate regional unit at a substantial discount.
- You intend to use a controller, external display, or other gaming accessories.
Look elsewhere if:
- The Astra costs close to a newer REDMAGIC tablet.
- You want the longest and clearest software-support outlook.
- You need cellular connectivity or expandable storage and the regional specification does not provide it.
- You expect a charger to be included automatically.
- You want a general-purpose productivity tablet with a mature tablet application ecosystem.
The 24GB/1TB version is especially easy to overspend on. It is attractive to enthusiasts, but most Android games do not require 24GB of RAM. A lower configuration may provide nearly the same gaming experience at a better value.

What about the newer REDMAGIC generation?
By March 2026, ZTE had previewed the newer REDMAGIC Gaming Tablet 5 Pro as a next-generation compact tablet. The announcement described a 9.06-inch body, active fan cooling, an 8,200mAh battery, and 80W fast charging, alongside a newer product position.

REDMAGIC’s current comparison and product-information pages also reference newer Astra 2 and Gaming Tablet 5 Pro products. That makes the successor the most important internal alternative for anyone shopping in 2026. The original Astra should be bought because its price, size, OLED display, and feature set are attractive—not simply because it is a REDMAGIC tablet.
Compare the original Astra with the newer model on sustained performance, display quality, software age, accessory support, warranty, and total delivered cost. A small discount is not enough if the older tablet is out of stock, imported without local support, or priced close to its replacement.
How it compares with alternatives
Lenovo Legion Y700
The Legion Y700 is the closest category alternative because it also targets compact, high-performance Android gaming. The right comparison depends on the exact Y700 generation and market. Focus on OLED versus LCD, Snapdragon generation, sustained cooling, software, accessories, storage, warranty, and final regional price rather than copying specifications from a different model year.
iPad mini
The iPad mini is a stronger option for buyers who prioritize Apple’s application ecosystem, long-term platform support, resale value, and general-purpose use. The Astra’s advantages are its Android flexibility, gaming-focused software, active cooling, high refresh rate, and compact gaming design.
Newer REDMAGIC tablets
A newer Astra 2 or Gaming Tablet 5 Pro is the natural comparison for a 2026 buyer. It may provide a later platform and longer remaining product life, while the original Astra may win only when discounted enough to offset its age and limited availability.
What the original headline gets right—and wrong today
“Red Magic Gaming Tablet 3 Pro: Name Confirmed, Specs Still in the Shadows” was an accurate pre-launch headline if published before June 11, 2025. At that point, the name, launch date, OLED display, Snapdragon platform, and cooling design were public, but the complete specification sheet was not.
It is not an accurate present-tense description in August 2026. The device launched, received an international name, and gained a full official specification page. The correct current summary is:
The Gaming Tablet 3 Pro was a real 2025 launch that became the international REDMAGIC Astra. Its specifications are no longer hidden, but its regional stock, price, and value must now be judged against newer REDMAGIC tablets.
