REDMAGIC’s June 11, 2025 launch referred to its China-market Gaming Tablet 3 Pro, not a global release date for a tablet officially called Astra. The device later appeared internationally as the REDMAGIC Astra Gaming Tablet, with a confirmed 9.06-inch OLED display and flagship gaming hardware. It is now an older model: on September 24, 2026, REDMAGIC’s US store lists the Astra at $549 but marks it out of stock.
What REDMAGIC announced—and what it had not confirmed yet
On June 7, 2025, REDMAGIC teased the Gaming Tablet 3 Pro in China and said it would launch on June 11. The company emphasized a compact design intended to be easy to carry. At the time, the cited announcement did not confirm every detail later attached to the product, including the OLED panel. The date should be understood as the China launch, not a promise of simultaneous global retail availability. The original report also treated global availability as uncertain.
The device subsequently reached international markets under the Astra Gaming Tablet name. REDMAGIC’s later official Astra specifications confirm the 9.06-inch OLED screen. That distinction matters: the headline’s 2025 news was a China-focused unveiling and launch, while the detailed Astra specifications describe the later global product listing.

Configurations, features and availability can vary by market. The cited specifications describe a Wi-Fi tablet; they do not establish a cellular version. REDMAGIC’s listed connectivity includes DisplayPort over USB-C, while HDMI connection requires a converter. The supplied official specification material does not establish a microSD slot, so buyers should not assume storage can be expanded.

Why the compact OLED screen is the point
At just over nine inches, the Astra sits between a gaming phone and a conventional larger tablet: it offers more room for game controls and visuals than a phone, while remaining smaller and lighter than most 10- to 12-inch tablets. OLED pixels can produce deep blacks and strong contrast, qualities that can make dark scenes and video look more vivid than on an LCD screen. REDMAGIC lists DCI-P3 color coverage, Gorilla Glass, SGS eye-protection certification and claimed color accuracy of about ΔE 0.7.
The panel’s maximum refresh rate is 165Hz. REDMAGIC separately advertises touch sampling up to 2,000Hz instantaneously and 240Hz for multi-finger input. Those are touch-input figures, not the display’s refresh rate: they do not mean the screen refreshes 2,000 times per second. As with other OLED devices, buyers who keep static interface elements on screen for long periods may consider image retention a general panel trade-off; that is not evidence of a known Astra defect. Some people are also sensitive to OLED dimming behavior, so checking a display in person where possible is sensible.

Gaming hardware, cooling and controls
The Snapdragon 8 Elite is flagship-class Android silicon, paired in the Astra with an auxiliary REDCORE R3 Pro gaming chip. The tablet’s compact dimensions and high-refresh OLED are the central combination for mobile gaming, emulation and streaming. Higher-end configurations offer up to 24GB of RAM and 1TB of storage, which may appeal to people keeping large game or emulation libraries on-device.

Other gaming-focused features listed by REDMAGIC include dual speakers with DTS:X Ultra, dual X-axis linear motors for haptics, RGB lighting, a programmable Magic Key and support for Bluetooth or USB-C controllers. The company also highlights game optimizations for selected titles such as Call of Duty: Mobile, PUBG and Minecraft. These features target play first; they do not by themselves make the Astra a productivity tablet with the accessory ecosystem of a mainstream laptop replacement.

As checked on September 24, 2026, the official US Astra product page displays a $549 price for the listed configuration and marks it out of stock. Treat that as a US listing, not a universal price or confirmation that the tablet can currently be ordered. Regional pricing, configuration and stock can differ.

REDMAGIC’s newer lineup includes the Astra 2. The company’s tablet comparison page lists it with a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, OLED refresh rate up to 185Hz, an 8,300mAh battery, up to 75W charging support, and REDMAGIC OS 11.5 based on Android 16. These are Astra 2 specifications, not updates to the original Astra. The comparison page establishes the newer model’s listed features, but the information here does not establish a current US price or order status for it.
For a buyer choosing today, the original Astra is most compelling if a compact form factor and OLED display matter more than buying the newest generation—and only if it is actually in stock in that buyer’s region. Check local availability and software terms before committing. REDMAGIC’s US listing specifically highlights five years of software support for customers in the European Union and United Kingdom under applicable rules; that should not be read as the same promise for every region.

Who the Astra suits
- Consider it if you want a small Android gaming tablet, value OLED contrast, and expect to use the high-refresh screen, flagship processor, haptics or controller support.
- Look elsewhere if you need cellular data, a quiet device, a mature productivity setup, or a clearly established long-term support commitment for your region.
- Compare the Astra 2 if buying new and current-generation performance matters, but verify its local price, stock and terms rather than assuming they match the original Astra.
- Compare mainstream tablets from Samsung, Apple or Lenovo if software support, accessories, service and productivity are more important than a compact OLED gaming focus. They are alternatives by priority, not direct equivalents in every specification.
A larger gaming tablet such as REDMAGIC’s 10.9-inch Nova is another size-oriented option for people who prefer a bigger canvas; it is not a substitute for the Astra’s small OLED format. The Lenovo Legion Tab is a relevant compact gaming comparison, but the original report described its 8.8-inch, 165Hz screen as LCD rather than OLED. Check each model’s current specifications and availability before comparing prices.
