Redmi added a lower-priced Core i7-14650HX configuration to its 2024 G Pro gaming laptop in China. It launched at ¥7,299—¥1,700, or about 18.9%, below the original Core i9-14900HX version—while retaining the RTX 4060 and the advertised 16-inch, 2.5K, 240Hz display. That makes the i7 model a plausible better-value choice for gaming-focused buyers, but available launch coverage does not include side-by-side benchmarks to prove equal gaming performance or a higher performance-per-yuan result.
Price and launch timeline
The Redmi G Pro 2024 originally launched in China with an Intel Core i9-14900HX, GeForce RTX 4060 Laptop GPU, and a reported price of ¥8,999. Redmi announced the Core i7-14650HX option on July 5, 2024; pricing was reported on July 11, and the model went on sale in China on July 12 at ¥7,299. Reports differed on whether the first-sale time was 9:30 or 10:00, so the date is clearer than the exact time. (announcement; pricing report; first-sale report)
The ¥1,700 difference works out to about 18.9% off the i9 model’s launch price. These are historical Chinese launch prices, not verified current prices: the laptop’s launch was in 2024, and no current August 2026 price or official international availability is established by the cited reporting.

What the i7 configuration includes

Launch coverage reports that the i7 model retains the same RTX 4060 and major gaming specifications as the i9 configuration. The 130W CPU and 210W total figures describe Redmi’s laptop implementation, not universal power ratings for the i7-14650HX or every laptop using that processor. Real sustained performance depends on the laptop’s cooling, firmware, workload, and operating mode. The reported port selection includes Thunderbolt 4, three USB-A 3.2 Gen 2 ports, one USB-A 2.0 port, Mini DisplayPort 1.4, HDMI 2.1, RJ45 Ethernet, a 3.5mm audio jack, and an SD-card slot. That mix is useful for connecting a wired network, peripherals, and external displays without relying entirely on adapters. (first-sale specifications)
What changes between the i7 and i9
The lower price comes with a real CPU step-down. Intel lists the i7-14650HX with 16 cores and 24 threads, compared with 24 cores and 32 threads on the i9-14900HX. Both have eight performance cores; the i7 has eight efficiency cores, while the i9 has 16. Intel’s stated maximum P-core turbo frequencies are 5.2GHz for the i7 and 5.8GHz for the i9, and their Smart Cache capacities are 30MB and 36MB, respectively. Intel’s brief lists 157W maximum turbo power for both processors; that generic processor specification should not be confused with Redmi’s 130W laptop CPU performance-release claim. The i9’s extra cores and higher peak frequency may matter in CPU-heavy work such as rendering, video encoding, large software builds, virtual machines, heavy multitasking, and games that are CPU-limited—particularly when targeting very high frame rates at lower resolutions. The size of any gap in this particular laptop cannot be quantified from the published specifications alone.

Both configurations pair their processor with an RTX 4060, so the i7 version offers a lower-cost route to that GPU and the same advertised display class. At the laptop’s native 2.5K resolution, many games may be limited more by graphics performance than by the difference between these CPUs. That makes it reasonable to expect the i7 to preserve much of the experience in GPU-limited gaming, while giving up CPU performance in workloads that use more cores. It is an inference, not a result demonstrated by comparable tests of the two Redmi configurations.

That distinction matters: Redmi’s value positioning is supported by the lower launch price and retained GPU, but the available coverage does not establish identical frame rates or prove a better FPS-per-yuan ratio. Intel also cautions that processor specifications are not direct measures of performance and that outcomes vary with the system and workload. Buyers who mostly play games may find the trade-off attractive; buyers who regularly render, encode, compile, or run CPU-intensive simulations have a stronger reason to consider the i9 or another higher-core-count system.
Availability and buying cautions
The confirmed sale and prices are for China. Xiaomi has a Redmi G Pro 2024 specifications page, but the available evidence does not confirm a current i7 listing, current stock, or an official U.S. release. The ¥7,299 figure should therefore be treated as the July 2024 Chinese launch price, not as a current offer or a worldwide price.

If considering an import, verify the exact CPU, GPU and configuration with the seller, along with final price, seller authorization, condition, warranty process, keyboard layout, operating-system language, charger compatibility, and applicable shipping costs and import duties. The reported configuration has 16GB of memory; check whether that capacity suits your games and multitasking needs, and confirm upgrade options rather than assuming them. The cited launch reports do not establish those details, nor do they provide independent testing of battery life, fan noise, sustained performance, or thermals.
In 2026, the decision is less about the launch discount alone and more about the actual price against newer or clearance gaming laptops. Compare the complete configuration—including GPU power limit, display, memory, storage, cooling, warranty, and final delivered cost—before treating an old launch price as a bargain.

Verdict
At launch, the i7-14650HX Redmi G Pro 2024 made the lineup more compelling for buyers focused on gaming: it cost ¥1,700 less than the i9 model while retaining the RTX 4060 and key advertised gaming features. The trade-off is fewer CPU cores, threads, cache, and peak turbo frequency. It is a credible lower-cost alternative, not a proven equal-performance model or a benchmark-verified performance-per-price winner. For a purchase today, current local pricing, support, and competition matter more than the 2024 launch comparison.
