Set your position with Defensive Stance and movement, then dive toward the shot when needed. You are not locked into the role: if you leave the box, a teammate can enter and take over. The key save choice is reach versus control: a regular dive can catch a reachable ball, while a long-range dive reaches farther but always deflects.
How to become goalkeeper—and switch roles
REMATCH has fluid positions rather than a permanent goalkeeper class. The first player to enter their team’s goalkeeper box takes the role; if that player leaves, a teammate can enter and become goalkeeper. Sloclap explains the rule in its official FAQs.
Because the role can change during play, coordinate a handoff with teammates when leaving the box. That helps avoid leaving the goal unattended while someone else moves in.

The Epic Games Store beginner guide lists the following inputs. Treat them as guide-listed bindings, not universal defaults: platform, control preset, and remapping can change what you need to press.

These bindings are listed in the Epic Games Store beginner’s guide. Sloclap’s site lists a goalkeeper-dive and rebinding hotfix dated September 29, 2026, followed by update 1.205.004 dated October 2, 2026. Check the controls shown in your current game, especially if you use a different preset or have remapped inputs; the official site’s update listing provides the latest patch context cited here.
How to position before a shot
Use Defensive Stance as your standard goalkeeper posture for intercepting shots, and dash to adjust your position before committing to a dive. Positioning matters because a regular dive covers only part of the goal; diving in the right direction can put you in range without giving up the rest of your coverage.

Do not treat a dive as the answer to every shot. Read the attacker and ball trajectory, move into a useful position, and choose a dive when you need to reach beyond your current stance.
Regular dive or long-range dive?
Sloclap’s Season 5 gameplay notes describe the distinction as a tradeoff between coverage and control. A regular dive reaches roughly half the goal and may catch the ball if you are positioned correctly and it is within range. It cannot reach the very top corners. A long-range dive travels farther, but always deflects the ball, leaving it in play.

Sloclap says a regular dive can turn into a deflection if you dive too early or in the wrong direction and the ball hits your legs. A long-range dive can stop a shot that would otherwise be unreachable, but be ready for a rebound because it does not secure possession. What Dive Assist does
Dive Assist considers possible future ball positions around the direction you choose and selects an animation intended to bring the keeper closest to the ball. In the Season 5 changes, Sloclap said it improved the assist to reduce unexpected low or high dives when players expected the other version. You still need to choose a useful direction and position; the assist is about the dive animation, not a guarantee of a save.

When to use goalkeeper tackle
The beginner guide describes the goalkeeper tackle as similar to a sliding tackle, ending with the goalkeeper grabbing the ball. That differs from a dive, which is used to reach a shot and may either catch or deflect it. The guide lists Circle / B / E for goalkeeper tackle, subject to your active bindings.
What the official guidance does—and does not—establish
Sloclap’s design goal is for goalkeepers to feel dependable while retaining weaknesses an attacker can exploit. The studio’s Season 5 blog puts it this way: “We want keepers to feel strong and dependable, while leaving noticeable weaknesses that a good striker can exploit.” The roughly half-goal reach is a description of the regular-dive mechanic, not a measured save-rate statistic. The official sources cited here do not provide a goalkeeper save percentage or goals-prevented figure.
