FBC: Firebreak is a three-player cooperative first-person shooter set in the world of Control. Remedy revealed it on October 17, 2024, as the studio’s first self-published game and first multiplayer title. It is a standalone game—not a Control sequel or DLC—and it launched on June 17, 2025.
What Remedy revealed about FBC: Firebreak
Remedy’s October 17, 2024 announcement introduced FBC: Firebreak as a PvE shooter for teams of three. Players join the Federal Bureau of Control’s Firebreak response unit during an otherworldly siege. The game draws on the setting of Control, but is designed as its own experience. Remedy called it the company’s first self-published game. Remedy’s reveal announcement set out those initial details.
Is FBC: Firebreak a Control sequel or DLC?
No. Remedy described FBC: Firebreak as a standalone game in the Control universe, not a sequel or an expansion. Game Director Mike Kayatta put it plainly in an October 2024 Xbox Wire interview: “FBC: Firebreak is not Control DLC and it’s definitely not a Control sequel.” The developers also said players do not need to have played Control to understand Firebreak. The Xbox Wire interview describes the team’s aim to make the game approachable without requiring players to spend time preparing elaborate loadouts before a session.
Is FBC: Firebreak multiplayer?
Yes. It is built around three-player cooperative PvE play, with players working together as members of the Firebreak unit. Cross-platform voice chat was added in November 2025, which can help groups coordinate across platforms. A headset with a microphone is an optional way to communicate; it is not a stated requirement.

FBC: Firebreak released on June 17, 2025. Remedy currently lists the game for PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Its listed subscription routes include PC Game Pass, Game Pass Ultimate, and the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog for Extra and Premium members. Prices announced by Remedy are dated figures, not live checkout quotes. On April 24, 2025, Remedy listed the launch prices below. On March 17, 2026, it announced permanently reduced prices. Regional storefront prices, taxes, and later changes may differ.

In March 2026, Remedy described the Open House update as the game’s final major content update. The studio said the game would remain online and playable, with patches if needed. That distinguishes ongoing availability from a promise of more major content: Remedy has not announced another major update in the cited status statement. The Open House post also covers the Friend’s Pass and the studio’s update plans.
