Weapon slots
Long guns
Long guns are one of the two ranged slots. The wiki’s long-gun list lets readers compare firing rate, magazine size, ammo capacity, damage, range, critical chance, weak-spot modifier, and stagger. These numbers describe different trade-offs; no single stat identifies the best choice for every build or encounter.

Handguns
Handguns occupy the other ranged slot. Consult the weapon’s individual entry for its available stats and weapon type rather than assuming it will perform like a long gun with similar damage.
Melee weapons
Melee weapons fill the third slot and support close-range combat. Their role differs from ranged weapons, so compare them by the attributes and effects shown on their individual wiki pages.

Check whether a candidate is standard or special, especially if you need a configurable mod slot or are planning upgrades.

For ranged weapons, compare the stats shown for that weapon, including damage, range, magazine and ammo capacity, firing rate, and modifiers where available.

Judge the trade-offs against your build, intended range, and encounter. A stat advantage on its own does not establish that a weapon is best overall.

Why weapon stats can change
Weapon behavior and balance values can shift between game updates. For example, Gunfire Games’ November 12, 2024 hotfix notes say the developer fixed an issue in which Bonesaw’s fire rate was incorrect (Gunfire Games patch notes). Treat exact damage, fire-rate, and other balance claims as version-sensitive, and check the latest applicable game build and reference before relying on them.
