Start with this diagnostic checklist
Before changing Windows, confirm three details:
- Which program shows the error?
resampler 192.dllbelongs to legacy Steinberg WaveLab installations, especially WaveLab 6. If a game or unrelated application reports it, check whether WaveLab files were copied into that program’s folder. - When did the problem begin? Note whether it followed antivirus quarantine, disk cleanup, manual deletion, migration to another computer, an incomplete reinstall, or a WaveLab update.
- Is the host application 32-bit or 64-bit? WaveLab 6.1.1 runs as a 32-bit application, including on 64-bit Windows. That does not independently prove the standalone DLL’s architecture, so do not substitute a file based only on whether Windows is 32-bit or 64-bit.
The safest first fix is to repair or reinstall the same licensed WaveLab edition from Steinberg installation media, your Steinberg account, or Steinberg’s unsupported WaveLab downloads. Do not download an isolated copy of resampler 192.dll.
What resampler 192.dll is
resampler 192.dll is an application plug-in named Wavelab Resampler. It is associated with WaveLab audio editing and mastering software and has a historical developer attribution to Spectral Design GmbH.
It is not:
- A Windows system component
- A Microsoft runtime DLL
- A normal ActiveX or COM component
- A file that should normally be placed in
System32orSysWOW64
A known WaveLab 6 path is:
C:Program FilesSteinbergWaveLab 6systempluginsResampler 192.dll
WaveLab searches its own Systemplugins directory for plug-ins. The capitalization of the filename is not usually important on Windows, but the directory and WaveLab version are important.
Public file inventories report different historical builds and sizes for this filename. That means you should not use a reported size as a universal authenticity test or combine a file from one WaveLab release with another.

What the error means
You may see messages such as:
resampler 192.dll is missingresampler 192.dll was not foundCannot find resampler 192.dllresampler 192.dll could not be locatedresampler 192.dll error loadingresampler 192.dll Access Violationresampler 192.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error
The first group generally means WaveLab cannot find the plug-in in the location it expects. The “error loading” and “not designed to run” variants can instead indicate a damaged file, an incompatible WaveLab installation, or a missing dependency.
The message alone does not prove that the DLL belongs in Windows. In this case, the application that owns the file is the important clue.
Fix 1: Repair or reinstall the exact WaveLab version
This is the most likely solution when the file was deleted, moved, corrupted, or missed during installation.
If WaveLab is listed in Windows
- Close WaveLab and any Steinberg applications.
- Press Windows key + I to open Settings.
- Select Apps, then Installed apps.
- Search for WaveLab.
- Select the three-dot menu beside the matching edition.
- Choose Uninstall if no repair option is available.
- Restart Windows.
- Install the same WaveLab edition from your original Steinberg media, Steinberg account, or the official Steinberg legacy download area.
- Apply the matching update for that edition before starting the program.
Some older installers do not provide a modern Windows repair button. In that case, reinstalling the complete product is safer than copying only the missing DLL.
If you still have the original installer
- Right-click the installer.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Keep the original destination unless you have a specific reason to change it.
- Allow the installer to complete all WaveLab components and plug-ins.
- Restart Windows.
- Open WaveLab from its normal shortcut.
For WaveLab 6, use the installer and update intended for that product rather than a WaveLab 8 or newer package. Do not copy Resampler 192.dll from another release to make the directory look complete.
Check the expected folder
After installation:
- Open File Explorer.
- Browse to the WaveLab installation directory.
- Open
system, thenplugins. - Look for
Resampler 192.dll. - Start WaveLab.
If the file is present and WaveLab starts, the repair worked. If WaveLab still reports an error, read the complete message carefully. A second filename may identify the actual missing dependency.
If the installer does not place the file in the expected folder, stop before downloading a replacement. You may have installed a different edition, a different product, or an incomplete package.
Fix 2: Check Windows Security quarantine
Antivirus software may quarantine a plug-in after an update, disk scan, or false detection.
- Open the Start menu and search for Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent entries for
Resampler 192.dll, WaveLab, or the WaveLab installation directory. - Open an entry to see its original path and detection details.
Microsoft’s guidance allows a quarantined file to be restored, but restoration should be used only when the file’s authenticity and source are established.
For this file, reinstalling WaveLab from trusted Steinberg media is the preferred recovery. Restore the quarantined file only when all of the following are true:
- It came from your legitimate WaveLab installation.
- The original path was WaveLab’s own
systempluginsdirectory. - You recognize the product and installer source.
- Your security software’s detection has been reviewed.
If the file returns to quarantine immediately, do not repeatedly restore it. Leave it quarantined and reinstall WaveLab from a clean, licensed installer. An arbitrary DLL downloaded from the internet has no reliable provenance merely because its filename matches.
Fix 3: Determine whether a dependency is missing
A file can exist and still fail to load because another library it needs is absent.

Look at the full error for a second filename, such as:
MSVCR71.dllMSVCP*.dll- Another named Microsoft runtime
- A WaveLab component with a different filename
If the message names a Microsoft Visual C++ runtime, install the appropriate package from Microsoft’s latest supported Visual C++ Redistributable documentation. The package architecture must match the application. For legacy 32-bit WaveLab, the x86 runtime may be relevant even when Windows itself is 64-bit.
Installing a Visual C++ Redistributable does not recreate Resampler 192.dll. Use it only when the error identifies a missing Microsoft runtime or when the correct WaveLab installation still reports a runtime dependency problem.
If the message names an old non-Microsoft dependency, identify that specific component through the WaveLab installer or product documentation. Do not download the dependency from a random DLL library.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFix 4: Check whether the file is damaged
If the file exists but produces a “bad image,” “error loading,” or access violation message, the file may be incomplete or incompatible.
- Close WaveLab.
- Browse to the WaveLab
systempluginsfolder. - Right-click
Resampler 192.dll. - Select Properties.
- Check the General and Details tabs.
- Compare the product information with the installed WaveLab edition.
- If the file is blocked, select Unblock on the General tab only when you trust the installer source.
- Do not rename it or replace it with
resample.dll. - Reinstall the matching WaveLab edition if the file appears truncated, has no expected product information, or does not match the installation.
The exact historical version and size are not consistent across public inventories, so do not reject a legitimate installation solely because its byte count differs from an internet listing.

Fix 5: Do not register this plug-in with regsvr32
regsvr32 is used for DLLs that expose registration functions such as DllRegisterServer. WaveLab treats this file as an internal audio plug-in discovered in its own plug-in directory. There is no established evidence that Resampler 192.dll is a self-registering COM or ActiveX component.
Therefore, this is normally the wrong command:
regsvr32 "C:Program FilesSteinbergWaveLab 6systempluginsResampler 192.dll"
It may produce an entry-point error, and a successful registration would not repair WaveLab’s plug-in discovery.
Use regsvr32 only when the software’s official documentation specifically says that a particular DLL must be registered. That is not the normal repair for this WaveLab file.
Fix 6: Repair Windows components only if other programs are also failing
SFC and DISM repair protected Windows files and the Windows component store. They do not normally restore a third-party WaveLab plug-in.
Use them when the resampler 192.dll failure appeared alongside broader Windows problems, such as multiple built-in applications failing or repeated system-file errors.
Run DISM
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes at the User Account Control prompt.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for the operation to finish.
- Restart Windows.
Run System File Checker
Open an elevated Command Prompt again and run:
sfc /scannow
Wait until verification reaches 100 percent, then restart Windows and try WaveLab.
Recommended Free Tools
If SFC reports that it repaired files, test WaveLab again. If it reports that no integrity violations were found, Windows system files were probably not the cause. If both commands complete without changing the WaveLab error, return to the WaveLab reinstall and dependency checks.
Repeating SFC and DISM cannot replace a missing third-party plug-in.
When manually hunting through Windows repair steps becomes time-consuming, Outbyte PC Repair can scan for system issues and show what it found before any repair; the full version performs the repair, but reinstalling WaveLab remains the definitive fix for this application-specific DLL.
Fix 7: Account for legacy 32-bit WaveLab compatibility
WaveLab 6.1.1 was designed for Windows XP, Vista, and Windows 7 and runs as a 32-bit application. Current Windows 10 and Windows 11 systems may run it, but compatibility is not guaranteed.

If the correct file is installed and WaveLab still will not start:
- Right-click the WaveLab shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Compatibility tab.
- Select Run this program in compatibility mode for.
- Try the older Windows version that matches the product’s supported environment.
- Select Run this program as an administrator only if WaveLab needs it for a documented installation or licensing issue.
- Select Apply, then OK.
- Start WaveLab again.
Compatibility mode cannot repair a missing file. It is useful when the DLL is present but the older application fails during startup.
If the program depends on a legacy license or activation system, a DLL repair will not solve a licensing failure. Check the wording of the activation message separately and use the product’s legitimate license credentials or media.

A driver reinstall is relevant when WaveLab reports an ASIO device, audio interface, playback, or recording problem. It is not a normal fix for a missing internal plug-in.
To inspect an audio driver:
- Right-click the Start button.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
- Right-click the audio interface.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if a driver is installed.
- Test WaveLab again.
For a device that recently stopped working, open the device’s Properties, select the Driver tab, and use Roll Back Driver only when the option is available and the problem clearly began after an update.
Manually checking several manufacturer pages and matching old drivers can be tedious, especially on a legacy system. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan and identify outdated drivers, while the full version installs updates; use this only for an audio-device problem, not as a substitute for reinstalling WaveLab.
Fix 9: Use System Restore only after a recent system change
System Restore is reasonable when WaveLab worked recently, a restore point exists, and the problem began directly after software removal, a driver change, or another system modification.
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type:
rstrui.exe
- Press Enter.
- Select Choose a different restore point if available.
- Pick a point from before the problem began.
- Review the affected programs.
- Select Finish.
System Restore does not guarantee recovery of a third-party plug-in and should not replace a clean WaveLab reinstall. Do not use it merely because SFC did not find a problem.

Random DLL download sites sites may provide:
- A file from the wrong WaveLab edition
- A mismatched 32-bit or 64-bit binary
- A corrupt or modified file
- A file with unresolved dependencies
- A file with no trustworthy provenance
Copying it to C:WindowsSystem32, C:WindowsSysWOW64, or a random application directory can create new loader errors and may expose the entire system to malicious code.
Use the original Steinberg installer, licensed installation media, or Steinberg’s official legacy WaveLab downloads instead. Keep the restored file inside the matching WaveLab systemplugins directory.

FAQ
Is resampler 192.dll a Windows file?
No. It is a legacy WaveLab resampling plug-in, not a Windows component or Microsoft system DLL.
Where should it be installed?
For a known WaveLab 6 installation, the expected location is:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
C:Program FilesSteinbergWaveLab 6systemplugins
Other WaveLab editions may use a different product directory.
Should I copy it to System32?
No. WaveLab searches its own plug-in directory, and copying the file to a Windows system folder does not repair the application.
Should I run regsvr32?
Normally no. This is an internal WaveLab plug-in, not a known self-registering COM component.
Will Visual C++ Redistributable restore the file?
No. It can help only when WaveLab reports a separate missing Microsoft runtime dependency.
Is the DLL definitely 32-bit?
The relevant WaveLab 6.1.1 application is documented as 32-bit. The DLL’s standalone architecture has not been independently verified, so use the matching WaveLab installer rather than guessing.
What if WaveLab still fails after reinstalling?
Read the full error for a second missing dependency, check Windows Security quarantine, confirm that the correct edition was installed, and test compatibility settings. If the message concerns licensing or activation, treat that as a separate issue.
What if the file is quarantined again?
Do not keep restoring it. Leave it quarantined, review the detection, and reinstall WaveLab from clean, licensed Steinberg media. If necessary, contact the antivirus vendor about the detection.
Are SFC and DISM required?
Only when broader Windows corruption is suspected. They normally do not restore resampler 192.dll.
