For smooth gameplay in Resident Evil Requiem, start with ray tracing off, choose a resolution and quality preset your PC can sustain, then use upscaling if native rendering cannot hold your target frame rate. As a tested starting point—not a universal preset—PC Gamer used 1440p Normal, ray tracing off and DLSS Quality on a desktop RTX 3060 Ti. Path tracing is much more demanding and is best treated as an optional visual upgrade for systems with substantial performance headroom.
What are the best settings for Resident Evil Requiem?
There is no single best configuration for every PC. Use the table as a starting point, then adjust for your display resolution, graphics card, CPU and tolerance for visual compromises. The configurations below are examples from PC Gamer’s tests, not guarantees for other machines.

For the fairest adjustment, change one category at a time—resolution, upscaling, ray tracing or general quality—and check the parts of the game where you notice slowdowns. PC Gamer used Leon’s introduction as a demanding sequence because it combines lights, shadows, reflections and NPCs.
What PC does the game require, and what do the targets mean?
The Epic Games Store listing specifies Windows 11 64-bit, 16 GB of RAM, DirectX 12 and an SSD for both minimum and recommended configurations. It lists the following CPUs and graphics cards:

These are Capcom’s listed targets, not a promise that every scene will maintain the stated frame rate; the listing warns that performance may drop under high processing load. The stated targets also rely on upscaling rather than native 1080p rendering. The listing requires an SSD but does not specify a capacity or speed tier. See the Epic Games Store system requirements.
Capcom’s support FAQ, updated July 22, 2026, says normal operation is not guaranteed with onboard graphics or devices that share video memory with main memory. It also cautions that mobile GPUs can perform substantially worse than regular GPUs, even when their names appear to meet the listed minimum or recommended requirements. How should you choose resolution, upscaling and quality?
Resolution is the image size sent to your display. Upscaling renders the game internally at a lower resolution and reconstructs it for the selected output resolution, trading some image detail for performance. Capcom says resolution and screen mode can be changed in the in-game options, and that available resolutions depend on the graphics card. Capcom’s FAQ explains the PC display options.
- Set your display resolution. In the in-game options, choose the output resolution you want to play at; the available choices depend on your GPU.
- Pick a quality preset your system can sustain. If performance is too low, reduce general quality or output resolution before adding more demanding lighting features.
- Enable a supported upscaler if native rendering cannot hold your target. Compare clarity and frame pacing at your chosen output resolution rather than assuming one upscaler mode suits every GPU.
- Change one setting category at a time. Revisit a demanding section after each change so you can tell whether the improvement came from resolution, quality or ray tracing.
The official minimum and recommended targets illustrate the tradeoff: Capcom lists 1080p at 30 fps from 640p native for minimum hardware and 1080p at 60 fps from 720p native for recommended hardware. Those publisher targets are not equivalent to native 1080p performance.

Should you enable ray tracing or path tracing?
Ray tracing is optional. In PC Gamer’s comparison, it improved shadowing and some reflections, but its performance cost varied by GPU and mode. On the tested RTX 3060 Ti, the reviewer found ray tracing usable but associated it with more inconsistent frame times; turning it off is a sensible first move if smoothness matters more than those visual changes.
Path tracing carries a substantially higher cost than the High ray-tracing mode in the cited RTX 5090 comparison: PC Gamer recorded 77 fps with path tracing versus 157 fps with High ray tracing in its 4K Max test using DLSS Performance. These figures describe that reviewer’s specific test, not a forecast for another PC. The reviewer also noted that even its RTX 5090 test needed substantial upscaling and frame generation for higher rates in demanding scenes.

Does frame generation help, and what does it cost?
Frame generation creates additional displayed frames, which can make motion appear smoother. It does not replace a stable baseline: PC Gamer cautions that it can raise input latency and recommends adequate performance before enabling it, particularly with FSR frame generation. In that review, FSR frame generation on the minimum-spec test system added more latency than the reviewer preferred. On the tested RTX 4050 laptop, frame generation also put pressure on limited VRAM and made frame times less consistent.
GPU support differs by generation. NVIDIA says DLSS 4 Multi Frame Generation is available on GeForce RTX 50-series GPUs, while DLSS Frame Generation is available on RTX 40-series GPUs. NVIDIA’s published Requiem figures include over 280 fps on an RTX 5090 and almost 200 fps on an RTX 5080 with a 4K, highest-settings, path-traced configuration using DLSS Ray Reconstruction and 4X DLSS 4 Multi Frame Generation. How to get more FPS without making gameplay feel worse
- Turn off path tracing or ray tracing first. This tests whether the most demanding lighting feature is responsible for the slowdown.
- Lower output resolution or general quality. If performance still misses your target, make one reduction and check the result in a demanding section.
- Use an available upscaler. Try its supported modes at the resolution you intend to play, and compare both image clarity and frame pacing.
- Check baseline stability before frame generation. Enable it only if ordinary rendering is already performing well enough for responsive play.
- Test where the slowdown happens. Lighting, shadows, reflections and NPCs can make scenes demanding; a quiet area may not reveal the settings that cause drops elsewhere.
For help choosing the right expectations on a gaming laptop or handheld, use the actual device performance rather than assuming a mobile GPU will match a desktop card with a similar model name. Capcom specifically warns that mobile GPU performance can be much lower than regular GPU performance.
