How their gameplay differs
Requiem contrasts Grace’s survival with Leon’s combat
In PlayStation’s official description, FBI analyst Grace Ashcroft has limited supplies and must assess enemies to decide whether to fight or flee. She can use blood to craft items, ammunition and injectors. Leon’s described toolkit leans toward direct combat: firearms, a hatchet, melee attacks, parries, weapons taken from enemies and customizable weapon parts. PlayStation’s Resident Evil Requiem page also says players can choose first- or third-person perspective for either character.
One early-game impression should not be mistaken for a rule about the whole adventure: PC Gamer’s review describes Leon as providing action while Grace carries much of the horror, stealth and puzzle play at the start. That is one reviewer’s account of the early structure, not a claim that every section follows the same division.
Village is framed as a varied, more action-oriented horror game
Capcom describes Village as the sequel to Resident Evil 7 biohazard, with “a variety of horror experiences, a greater degree of action, and even more expansive, highly-engaging gameplay.” Treat that as the publisher’s description rather than a head-to-head verdict against Requiem. It points to Village as an option for someone seeking that particular mix in the earlier release. Capcom’s 2024 Village announcement gives the official framing.

Should you play Village before Requiem?
Play Resident Evil 7 biohazard before Village if you want the story sequence: Capcom identifies Village as RE7’s sequel. Requiem, meanwhile, follows FBI analyst Grace Ashcroft, daughter of a character from an earlier game, and returns to Raccoon City while exploring the truth behind the Raccoon City Incident. Capcom says its story runs through the series’ lore, so familiarity may add context.
The official material cited here does not say that Village is a required prerequisite for Requiem. If you are deciding between the two and have not played Village, choose it for its place after RE7 in the story—not because the available information establishes that Requiem depends on it. Platforms, release dates and editions
Requiem released on February 27, 2026. Capcom’s September 2025 platform announcement lists PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC. Village spans more platform generations, but an available version is not necessarily the same version across devices: Capcom lists PlayStation 5 and 4, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch 2, cloud Nintendo Switch, and Apple devices. The original Nintendo Switch option is cloud-based, so check current service and device support before buying.

What the sales figures do—and do not—tell you
Capcom reported that Village passed 10 million worldwide units in the three years after its 2021 release, including digital download sales, in its June 11, 2024 announcement. That shows the scale of Village’s commercial reach; it does not prove that it is better suited to your tastes. Capcom’s sales announcement gives the figure and its timeframe.
Capcom separately reported more than 174 million cumulative Resident Evil franchise units as of June 30, 2025. That is franchise-wide context, not a direct comparison between these two games or a Requiem sales figure. Capcom’s September 2025 announcement reports the cumulative total.
