The Resident Evil: Survival Unit iOS pre-order was real, but it is now a historical listing. Apple originally displayed December 31, 2025 as the expected date, even though the game was available on the App Store by November 18, 2025. The title is now free to download on iPhone and iPad, with in-app purchases.
Why the pre-order looked unusually early
Resident Evil: Survival Unit was listed for iOS pre-order in 2025 while its release was described as targeting late 2025. Apple’s listing showed December 31, 2025, but that should not be treated as a confirmed launch day. The date was likely provisional—a common way to represent a title expected later in the year.
Contemporaneous coverage reported the listing and cautioned that the date might change. Its later update said the app had become available on the App Store on November 18, 2025.

Resident Evil Survival Unit is a strategy game
This is not a conventional third-person Resident Evil campaign or a remake-style survival-horror adventure. Apple categorizes it as Survival Horror Strategy, with the game built around:

The game uses Resident Evil’s characters, setting and horror themes, but its pacing and systems are closer to a mobile base-management and tactical strategy title than to the mainline console games.
Characters and story
The App Store listing names Leon S. Kennedy, Claire Redfield and Jill Valentine among the characters featured in the game. Pre-release coverage described the story as a parallel storyline connected to the events associated with Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3.
That description should be understood as pre-release story information, not as a claim that Survival Unit replaces or rewrites established Resident Evil canon.

Who made and published it?
The App Store credits Capcom, Aniplex and JOYCITY. Aniplex Inc. is identified as the seller on Apple’s store, while JOYCITY was described in launch coverage as the developer. Capcom is the Resident Evil rights holder and partner.
Calling it simply “a Capcom game” misses those distinct roles.
Availability, price and requirements
The U.S. App Store listing currently shows Resident Evil Survival Unit as available to download. It is listed as Free · In-App Purchases.

App Store availability, prices, ratings, languages and metadata can vary by country. The page also includes Mac and Apple Vision entries, but marks the app as not verified for macOS; that should not be treated as equivalent to native, verified Mac support.

The listing identifies in-app purchases, random-item purchases and loot boxes. U.S. examples visible on the listing included Standard Packs priced at $2.99, $4.99, $9.99 and $19.99, alongside event and promotional packs. Prices can change and vary by App Store region.
This matters when deciding whether the game is suitable for you. It is free to start, but it is not a premium, one-time-purchase Resident Evil experience. Its events, rewards and purchasable packs also suggest an evolving live-service model rather than a fixed standalone campaign.

What pre-registration offered
Before launch, the official Resident Evil Survival Unit website offered registration through the App Store, Google Play and an email campaign. Website-registration rewards included items such as a Special Flare Gun, food, lumber, iron, oil and five-minute speedups.
The game’s official terms made clear that website registration was separate from App Store and Google Play pre-registration. They also stated that store registrations were limited to one per store account, rewards were limited to one claim per game account, and some rewards depended on downloading and launching within seven days of service launch.
Those were launch-period conditions. Readers should not assume that historical pre-registration rewards remain available now.

Which launch date is correct?
There are two relevant dates in the available records:
- November 18, 2025: 9to5Mac updated its report to say the app was available on the App Store.
- December 18, 2025: an App Store version-history entry described the game as “now available worldwide.”
The safest conclusion is that the game became available on the App Store by November 18, while December 18 marked a later worldwide-availability milestone in the listing’s version history. Neither date supports treating December 31 as the actual launch date.
Should Resident Evil fans download it?
Survival Unit is a reasonable fit for players who enjoy Resident Evil characters and atmosphere but also like base building, resource management, tactical deployment and mobile events. It is a poor fit for anyone expecting a traditional single-player survival-horror campaign with the pacing and controls of a mainline Resident Evil release.

The important correction to the original pre-order story is simple: there is no longer a future December 31 release to wait for. Check the official App Store listing for regional availability, confirm that your device runs iOS or iPadOS 15 or later, and remember that the free download includes loot boxes and other in-app purchases.
