If a scheduled Restream video is not appearing or playing on YouTube, check the event’s schedule and YouTube destination first, then the video file, YouTube channel eligibility and connection, and finally whether a direct YouTube test works. Restream says its scheduled pre-recorded events air automatically, so do not assume a manual YouTube start is required. The exact cause depends on what you see: an event that never starts, “Sending Data,” a black screen, buffering, or missing audio point to different checks.
Start by identifying what failed
Before changing settings, note the Restream event status, the exact error text, whether the event appears in YouTube Studio, and whether a direct YouTube live test succeeds. This helps distinguish a scheduling or destination problem from a file, account, or playback-quality problem.
- No YouTube event or stream: Check the schedule, selected destination, channel eligibility, and connection.
- Restream says “Sending Data” or YouTube does not show the stream: Check YouTube access and stream settings, then reconnect the channel or run a direct test.
- The stream appears but shows a black screen, buffers, or has no sound: Check the source file’s video and audio encoding and compare its settings with YouTube’s recommendations.
Confirm the scheduled event and YouTube destination
- In Restream, open the pre-recorded event and confirm it is the intended event and that its scheduled time is correct.
- Check that the intended YouTube channel is selected as a destination. Restream’s event workflow lets you select an uploaded or existing video, enter event details, choose destinations, and create the event. Restream’s scheduled-video guide says the event airs automatically at its scheduled time.
- Check YouTube Studio to see whether the event is present there. If the event is absent, investigate the destination and channel connection before changing the video file.
Restream notes that some destinations, such as TikTok or Instagram, may require a separate Go Live action on the platform. Its example does not list YouTube, so do not treat a manual YouTube start as a universal requirement for this scheduled-video flow.
Check whether the video file meets Restream’s requirements
For a scheduled pre-recorded video, Restream lists these requirements: an MP4, MOV, M4V, or MKV container; H.264 video; AAC audio; and a two-second keyframe interval. If the source format is unsupported, Restream says to convert it to MP4. See its pre-recorded video requirements.

Restream also recommends Full HD 1080p, 30 or 60 FPS, and constant bitrate (CBR). It notes that a variable-bitrate (VBR) source may need re-encoding. These are recommendations rather than the mandatory checks above, and bitrate depends on the destination platform. Restream recommends adding 15–20 seconds of padding at both the beginning and end of the video so destinations have time to process the stream.
Verify YouTube live eligibility and channel access
For a channel’s first YouTube livestream, phone verification and a 24-hour enablement wait may be required. If the channel has not streamed live before, check its eligibility and allow that period to pass before troubleshooting the file. Restream’s YouTube connection guide also says the connected Google account must own the YouTube channel; manager or editor access alone is not sufficient.

Also check how the YouTube event was created. Restream warns that events created through the YouTube mobile app are mobile-only, and attempts to start those events through Restream fail. If that applies, create an event compatible with the Restream workflow instead.
Troubleshoot “Sending Data” or a stream missing from YouTube

- Confirm live streaming is enabled for the YouTube channel and that the account connected to Restream owns the channel.
- Check that the stream settings are compatible with YouTube, using the values in the next section as a guide.
- If access is in order but the connection still fails, remove and reconnect the YouTube channel in Restream. As part of that reconnection sequence, reset the stream key in YouTube Studio.
- Try going live directly on YouTube to isolate the destination. If a direct YouTube test also fails, Restream advises contacting YouTube support.
Make one change at a time and check the event again. That makes it easier to tell whether the problem was the event setup, connection, or stream settings.
Use YouTube-compatible output settings
Restream’s YouTube connection guide gives broad recommended input ranges, not one universal bitrate. Choose settings for the resolution and frame rate you are using, and consult Restream’s encoder settings guide for resolution-specific bitrate ranges.

These YouTube stream recommendations and the pre-recorded-file requirements serve different purposes: for a Restream pre-recorded source, use the required two-second keyframe interval and AAC audio, then check bitrate and other output settings against the destination guidance.

Black screen or unexpected video
Check that the selected event uses the intended video, then verify the file container and H.264 encoding. If the file appears valid but the problem continues, try a compatible MP4 conversion and test again. Avoid changing multiple encoding settings at once.

No audio
Check that the source contains an audio track and that it uses AAC, as required for Restream’s pre-recorded-video workflow. If you are inspecting a YouTube output or encoder configuration, compare the codec, channel layout, bitrate, and sample rate with the YouTube recommendations above.
Buffering or unstable playback
Check the source’s resolution, frame rate, and bitrate together rather than lowering bitrate blindly. Restream’s recommended bitrate depends on resolution and frame rate; its encoder settings guide provides the relevant ranges. A VBR source may need re-encoding to CBR.
