Revolve Games announced a partnership with Immutable on June 4, 2024, centered on Immutable zkEVM, Immutable Passport and a grant-program award, with strategy card game Bones and Blade as the planned showcase. The deal was real; “revolutionize blockchain gaming” was promotional framing, not a result demonstrated by the announcements. Revolve’s December 2024 relaunch later cited funding, leadership and monetization problems, and the available evidence does not establish the partnership’s lasting commercial impact.
What Revolve and Immutable announced
Revolve described the June 4, 2024 deal as a strategic partnership to bring Immutable’s gaming infrastructure into its ecosystem. The plan named Immutable zkEVM for game deployment, Immutable Passport for player onboarding, and acceptance into Immutable’s grant program. Revolve’s announcement said Bones and Blade would be deployed on the chain, with lower-cost, faster blockchain interactions intended to reduce friction for players.
Revolve also presented the partnership as a way to connect individual games to its wider “Selestium” ecosystem. These were company plans and stated goals, not proof that every product or feature shipped as envisioned.
What Revolve Games was building
Revolve positioned itself as a GameFi studio and ecosystem builder combining games with NFTs, DeFi mechanics and player-owned digital assets. It named Bones and Blade, a strategy card game, and Pylon Defense among its projects, alongside a broader Selestium universe and an eventual MMORPG. The studio also promoted a “stake-to-own” model rather than relying solely on play-to-earn rewards. These descriptions reflect Revolve’s own product ambitions, not independently verified commercial results. Revolve’s announcement channel provides further examples of its project positioning.

What Immutable zkEVM meant for the deal
The partnership was announced under the “Immutable X” name, but the specific game deployment described was on Immutable zkEVM, which Immutable identifies as powered by Polygon. The names should not be treated as interchangeable: Immutable zkEVM is a distinct product from the original Immutable X NFT layer. Immutable describes zkEVM as an EVM-compatible chain designed for games and digital ownership, with Ethereum-linked security and low-cost transaction positioning. Those are platform characteristics and claims, not measurements of Revolve’s game performance.
For a studio, EVM compatibility can make familiar Ethereum development tools relevant. For a player, the hoped-for difference is less friction when performing blockchain-backed actions such as claiming or transferring game assets. Immutable’s zkEVM product page and technical overview describe the chain and its intended use.

What players were supposed to notice
Revolve’s promised improvements concerned onboarding and the cost or complexity of blockchain actions, not a change to the core strategy-card gameplay itself. On June 7, 2024, Revolve separately announced an initial Immutable Passport integration on its website for account signup and wallet connection. The studio described simplified, passwordless authentication and automated wallet creation, with a fuller zkEVM integration for NFT assets and minting planned as a next phase. The Passport announcement documents that first-phase claim and the planned follow-up.
Passport-style onboarding can reduce the need for a newcomer to set up a separate wallet before trying a game. It does not make account recovery, permissions or asset custody irrelevant. Revolve characterized the wallet experience as non-custodial, but that label alone is not a complete security guarantee: the player’s control of assets and recovery still depends on the wallet’s design and the services involved.

“Gas-free” should also be read as conditional, not as a blanket promise that every player and every transaction will always cost nothing. Sponsorship can depend on the wallet, transaction type, application configuration and the rules in force at the time. Immutable’s gas-sponsorship documentation says sponsorship arrangements changed from the 2025 promotional period toward builder-funded costs in 2026, with further controls planned for late 2026. A game studio relying on sponsored transactions therefore needs to account for who ultimately pays as terms evolve.
The grant: accepted, but the amount is unknown
Revolve said it had been accepted into Immutable’s grant program and that the support would help game development and blockchain integration. The cited announcement does not disclose a dollar value, payment schedule, conditions, or whether all funds were paid. It is accurate to say Revolve announced grant-program acceptance; it is not possible from that announcement to quantify the funding or its impact.
Bones and Blade: a launch is not proof of commercial success
Immutable’s announcement channel described Revolve as launching Bones and Blade on Immutable zkEVM. In its later relaunch announcement, Revolve said the game had launched as its first title, while also saying the team was still working to finalize and monetize it. Immutable’s post and Revolve’s relaunch statement support those respective claims.

That distinction matters. A launch could mean an early-access or limited release; it does not by itself establish a finished commercial product, sustained player activity, a healthy NFT economy or successful blockchain integration at scale. The available announcements do not establish current player counts, retention, revenue, trading volume or whether the game remains actively operated in 2026.

Why Revolve announced a relaunch in December 2024
On December 10, 2024, Revolve said it was relaunching after facing underfunding, leadership and oversight problems, a delayed focus on revenue, and market-related fundraising difficulties. It said it remained focused on completing and monetizing Bones and Blade and Pylon Defense, and referred to the need to redesign tokenomics. These admissions complicate any reading of the original partnership as a turnaround in itself: infrastructure can help a game connect wallets and manage digital assets, but it cannot supply funding discipline, effective governance, compelling content or a sustainable business model.

What the partnership does—and does not—show
Immutable could provide game-focused infrastructure, wallet onboarding and tools for blockchain-backed assets. Those capabilities address technical and onboarding hurdles; they do not demonstrate that players wanted Revolve’s games, that token economics worked, or that the studio could fund and operate its plans over time. The clearest evidence-based assessment is that the partnership was real and produced announced integrations and a game launch claim, while its lasting technical and commercial impact remains unproven.
