Rey Dau is a Flying Wyvern and the apex predator of the Windward Plains in Monster Hunter Wilds. Bring an Ice weapon if you can; Water is a secondary option, while Thunder is a poor choice. Its lightning attacks reward careful positioning: leave glowing ground patches, dodge charged rushes sideways, and wait for lingering electricity to fade before chasing.
Where to find Rey Dau
Rey Dau lives in the Windward Plains, where its attacks draw on lightning stored during Sandtide conditions. It can be captured, so hunters can choose between a capture and a slaying hunt according to their objective. The monster database describes its habitat and behavior.
What is Rey Dau weak to?
Ice is its strongest listed elemental weakness, with Water also effective. Thunder is ineffective: Icy Veins’ combat guide describes Rey Dau as immune to Thunder. The database also lists Poison, Sleep, Stun, Blast, and Exhaust as effective statuses, but a status-focused setup is not required by the available guidance.
Consider Thunder-resistant armor if lightning attacks are causing trouble. No particular weapon class is required; choose a weapon whose counters, blocks, or dodges you can use reliably against its tells.

How to avoid Rey Dau’s lightning attacks
Lightning call and glowing ground
When Rey Dau calls down lightning, glowing patches on the ground signal danger. Move clear of the marked areas rather than waiting to react at the last moment.
Charged rush
Dodge the rush sideways, then hold back briefly before pursuing. Electricity can linger along the route, making an immediate chase dangerous.

Tail slam
Move outside the reach of the hind legs to avoid the tail slam. Staying near the head can also reduce exposure to this attack, but remain ready to evade its other close-range moves.
Roars and wing attacks
Watch for the roar and wing-attack cues. Depending on your weapon, you may be able to counter, block, or dodge them; prioritize a response you can execute consistently over forcing an attack.

Where to attack, and which parts to break
There are two different goals in choosing a target. The head is a useful opening to punish after Rey Dau discharges. For part-breaking, prioritize a charged wing or the tail: the database says contact with the ground can create fulgurite, widening the attack area and increasing Rey Dau’s charging capacity. Breaking those parts is therefore a way to disrupt the fight as well as pursue materials.

Choose your target according to the item you need: pursue the relevant break or wound reward route rather than assuming every material comes from the same carve. Exact drop rates depend on rank and reward method, and the available data pages do not establish a version date for all listed values. Check the current in-game reward details or current database entry before planning around a specific percentage. Kiranico’s reward data provides a separate structured listing.
