This is for Riven (2024), Cyan Worlds’ modern remake—not the 1997 game. The remake changes puzzles, so classic walkthrough solutions may not work; the GodisaGeek guide also warns that its answers contain substantial spoilers. Cyan describes it as a modern remake, launched June 25, 2024.
Temple Island: opening, rotating room, and first transit
Atrus sends you to Riven to free Catherine and capture Gehn in the Linking Book. After the opening leaves you trapped in a booth, you are released to explore Temple Island.
- Explore the temple and find the additional entrance to the rotating pentagonal room.
- Use the room’s rotation controls from outside it, then open the gates and route through the room toward the Gold Dome.
- Inspect the five beetle images. Look through the Gold Dome windows and write down the island symbols you see; you will need those observations later.
- Use the Spider Chair controls to open the temple door and lower the bridge.
- Take the Mag-Lev to Jungle Island.

Jungle Island: the Moiety Lens and number systems
Find the Moiety Lens near the bay. Through it, concealed white marks and messages become visible; check surfaces that seem blank without the lens.
In the Moiety school, study both the D’ni-number teaching game and a student’s notes. Work out and record the D’ni and Moiety number patterns rather than treating the lesson as optional background. Those systems help decode later totem clues. Some marks and animal clues cannot yet be interpreted, so note their locations and return when you have more information.

Boiler Island: mining, the laboratory, and the dome
Work your way to the Boiler, obtain a marble, and explore Gehn’s laboratory. To enter the Boiler, all three conditions must be met:

- Drain the water.
- Turn off the heat.
- Raise the metal structure.
The Boiler route involves diverting a pipe to the Boiler. For the exact control sequence and the route to the mining and laboratory areas, use Part 3 of the 2024 walkthrough.
The Starry Expanse: connect the island symbols
The marble mechanisms in the Starry Expanse connect island symbols to domes. Use the symbol notes you made at the Gold Dome and the number-system observations from Jungle Island as you work through them. The remake’s marble puzzles are not interchangeable with the classic game’s solutions.

Prison Island
Continue to Prison Island when the route opens. Treat it as a separate stop in the island sequence: information and access gathered on earlier islands feed into later sections, so keep your written symbols and clue notes with you.

Part 5: Prison Island covers its specific route and puzzles.
Survey Island
Proceed to Survey Island after Prison Island. Examine its clues carefully and record anything that appears to identify a place, symbol, or animal; the route returns to earlier locations, and later solutions depend on carrying observations forward.
Use Part 6: Survey Island for the island’s detailed puzzle sequence.
Return to Jungle Island
The walkthrough revisits Jungle Island after Survey Island. Recheck clues you could not read on your first visit, including deferred marks and animal-related information. The return is part of the intended route, not an optional detour.

Tay: read Catherine’s journal
On Tay, you are captured and wake in a cell. A visitor leaves two books, including Catherine’s journal and a Linking Book. Read Catherine’s journal all the way through: it contains backstory and information relevant to the Moiety, not just optional story material.

Back on Temple Island, use the island symbol you recorded earlier with the stroboscope and spinning-dome route. Complete the final Temple Island marble beam. Once all five marble routes are complete, operate the central Gold Dome device.

Area 233: decide how to answer Gehn
At Area 233, Gehn asks you for the Linking Book and then asks you to use it first. This is a consequential choice, with alternate-ending achievements tied to the outcomes. If you want to see both, make a separate save before answering rather than assuming the decision can be undone in the same run.

Finale: free Catherine before escaping
The finale separates rescuing Catherine from escaping Riven. If you leave without freeing her, you get an alternate ending. Decide whether you want that outcome before taking the escape route; to pursue the rescue, follow the Catherine steps first.

Which version and platform is this guide for?
The puzzle route above is for the 2024 remake. Cyan’s FAQ lists standalone Meta Quest 2 and Quest 3, Windows PC, PCVR through Steam and GOG, and Mac through the Mac App Store. Cyan’s release announcement says the game was developed for both flatscreen and VR, so a headset is optional. Storefront availability can change; check the current listing for your platform.

The same note says an Unreal Engine update is being evaluated, not that it has been released. If a technical issue blocks progress, consult Cyan’s patch notes and contact Cyan support.
