Close Roblox everywhere else, force-close it on the device you want to use, wait briefly for the old session to end, then reopen Roblox. If no second session exists, use the platform-specific recovery steps below.
Quick fix: stop the duplicate session
- Stop repeatedly clicking Join; each attempt can make session tracking harder to diagnose.
- Close Roblox on every other phone, tablet, computer, console, and browser tab where the account might be open. Ask anyone sharing the account to leave the experience.
- Force-close Roblox on your current device.
- Wait briefly for the previous connection to close. Roblox does not promise a specific wait time, so treat this as a practical recovery step.
- Open Roblox and join the experience again.
- If the client offers Reconnect if you prefer to use this device, use it only after closing Roblox elsewhere. Button wording and availability vary by client and platform.
- If the error remains, sign out and back in, then continue with the instructions for your device.
Roblox defines the error in its official guide: Error Code 264: Same account launched experience from different devices.
What Error 264 means
The message, “Same account launched experience from different device,” describes a simultaneous-device conflict. It concerns one Roblox account entering the same experience from multiple devices—not two different accounts merely using the same Wi-Fi network. It is not a ban message, and the code alone does not prove that someone hacked the account.
A phone left running in the background, a family member using the account, or a browser tab and desktop client launching together can all create the conflict. A client that did not disconnect cleanly can also leave session state behind, which is why force-closing and restarting are useful when only one person is playing.

Fixes by platform
Windows 7, 8.1, 10, and 11
First close every Roblox window and confirm the account is not active elsewhere. If the error persists, Roblox’s Windows recovery sequence is to uninstall Roblox, remove its local folder, restart Windows, and reinstall it. The cleanup command must be run after uninstalling Roblox and from Command Prompt:
- Uninstall Roblox.
- Press Win + R, type
CMD, and press Enter. - Run these commands exactly:
cd AppDataLocal
rmdir /s Roblox- Type
ywhen prompted. - Restart the computer.
- Reinstall Roblox from the official Roblox download source.
This removes the Roblox folder under your user AppData location. Do not run it while Roblox is installed or running, do not delete unrelated folders, and do not substitute registry-cleaner software. Reinstallation and local-data removal sign you out on that computer, so confirm that you know the password or have another valid sign-in method first.

Mac
- Close Roblox on other devices and force-close the Mac client.
- Remove Roblox by dragging it to Trash, choosing Move to Trash, or selecting it and pressing Command-Delete.
- Install Roblox again.
- Open System Settings → Privacy & Security and check that Roblox has the permissions it needs.
- If the problem remains, test another internet connection.
Roblox’s Error 264 instructions do not provide a Mac Terminal cache-removal command, so do not use an unverified one.
iPhone and iPad (iOS 12 and later in Roblox’s guide)
- Restart the device.
- Force-close Roblox using your device’s app-switching controls; the gesture differs between iPhone and iPad models.
- Delete Roblox and reinstall it from the App Store.
- Check Settings → General → Date & Time and enable the correct automatic setting or otherwise verify the date, time, and time zone.
- Try another internet connection if the error continues.
Android (Android 6 and later in Roblox’s guide)
- Restart the device.
- Open recent apps and swipe Roblox away, or use Settings → Apps → Roblox → Force stop. Labels vary by manufacturer.
- Uninstall Roblox through the device’s app settings and reinstall it from Google Play.
- Verify the automatic date and time settings.
- Test another network.
Amazon Fire tablets
Roblox’s listed supported models include Fire 7 (9th generation and newer), Fire HD 8 (8th generation and newer), Fire HD 10 (9th generation and newer), and Fire Max 11 (13th generation and newer); support can change as Roblox updates its requirements.

- Go to Settings → Apps & Games → Manage All Applications → Roblox → Force Stop.
- Restart the tablet.
- Uninstall and reinstall Roblox from the Amazon Appstore.
- Check date and time, then test another connection.
Chromebook (ChromeOS 53 and later in Roblox’s guide)
- Install pending ChromeOS updates.
- Open Chrome’s Task Manager and end the Roblox process. The menu path can vary by ChromeOS version.
- Restart or power off the Chromebook.
- Remove and reinstall the Roblox app.
- Verify date and time and test another network.
Xbox and PlayStation
Roblox’s Error 264 page does not provide an equally detailed console procedure. Close Roblox completely, sign out of the account on other devices, restart the console, install any Roblox and system updates, and reinstall Roblox only if the problem continues. Use Roblox’s computer, mobile, PlayStation, and Xbox technical-support resources for console-specific instructions.
Browser sessions
- Close duplicate Roblox tabs and any desktop client launched by the browser.
- Sign out of Roblox in other browsers and browser profiles.
- Start the experience from one clean browser session only.
If you do not recognize the other device
Error 264 by itself identifies a session conflict, not who created it. If you see unfamiliar activity or cannot explain the second session, treat it as an account-security issue:

- Change the Roblox password from a trusted device.
- Use Roblox’s available account-security controls to end unfamiliar sessions.
- Enable two-step verification or another sign-in protection option.
- Stop sharing the account with friends or family.
- Contact Roblox Support if you cannot regain control.
When another connection helps
Roblox recommends testing another internet connection as part of Error 264 troubleshooting. If a phone hotspot or different Wi-Fi network works, that helps separate a local connection or session problem from an installation issue; it is a diagnostic step, not proof that the original network caused the account conflict. Community theories about IP changes, VPNs, or DNS settings are not established by Roblox’s official guidance, so do not buy a VPN or change network settings as a universal fix.

What not to do
- Do not assume the code proves hacking.
- Do not repeatedly switch between devices while trying to reconnect.
- Do not delete random AppData folders or edit the Windows registry.
- Do not reinstall before confirming you can sign in again.
- Do not treat Error 264 as the same problem as Error 273, 277, or 280; Roblox lists those as separate error categories in its bug-reporting support section.
When to contact Roblox Support
Escalate when you have closed Roblox everywhere and the error still appears on multiple devices, when it returns repeatedly with only one active session, when reinstalling and (on Windows) clearing local data do not help, or when you cannot secure or access the account. Include your username, affected platform, the experience name, when the error began, and the steps already attempted.
