Start by checking Roblox Status, fully restarting Roblox and your computer, and testing another experience. If only one experience fails, the experience—not your installation—may be the problem. If every experience fails, continue with cache, browser, security, network, system, and reinstall checks below.
Use this 60-second triage first
- Check the platform: Open status.roblox.com. A Roblox incident can cause failed joins and apparent freezes that no local reinstall will fix.
- Close Roblox completely: Close the game window. In Windows, press
Ctrl + Shift + Esc, select any remaining Roblox processes in Task Manager, and choose End task. Do not terminate unrelated Windows processes. - Restart the computer: Roblox recommends rebooting for desktop problems because a client or installer can remain active in the background. - Try two other experiences: If they work, the original experience may have a creator-side bug, excessive objects, faulty scripts, or an overloaded place. If none work, continue with client and connection checks.
- Remove obvious interference: Disconnect a VPN temporarily and turn off overlays or browser extensions one at a time for a short test. Re-enable protection immediately after testing.
Identify the failure before changing anything

Clear Roblox local data safely
Cache cleanup targets corrupted temporary or application files. It does not delete your Roblox account, avatar, Robux, or purchased items. Close Roblox first.
Windows: graphical method
- Uninstall Roblox from Settings > Apps > Installed apps if you are preparing a full reset.
- Press
Win + R, enter%localappdata%Roblox, and press Enter. - Delete the Roblox folder, or remove its cache contents if you want a less destructive cleanup.
- Restart Windows.
- Install Roblox again from the official Roblox website and test before adding extensions or custom security rules.
Roblox identifies corrupted temporary files and damaged Roblox files as common desktop causes. Its guidance for error 403 and library-loading failures also uses the local Roblox directory. Sources: desktop issues, Failed to load library, and error 403.

Windows: optional Command Prompt reset
Use this only after Roblox has been closed and uninstalled, and only if you understand that it permanently deletes the specified folder:
rmdir /s /q "%localappdata%Roblox"The graphical method is safer for most people. Never download replacement DLL files from unofficial sites.
macOS: logs and preferences
- Quit Roblox and restart the Mac.
- Press
Command + Space, enter~/Library/Logs/Roblox/, and open that folder. - Delete the contents of the Roblox logs folder.
- Reproduce the problem. If it continues, remove Roblox preference files from
~/Library/Preferences, understanding that settings may reset. - Reinstall Roblox if necessary.
Roblox’s Mac troubleshooting guidance also recommends a supported browser, launching from the Dock, and checking macOS Privacy & Security permissions if the application is blocked.

Fix browser launch and installation loops
On Windows, Roblox lists Chrome, Firefox, and Edge as supported browsers. On Mac, it lists Chrome, Firefox, and Safari. Requirements and menu labels can change, so use the current Roblox support page for your operating system: hardware and browser requirements.
- Update your browser.
- Clear Roblox-related cookies and cached files rather than wiping every saved password.
- Temporarily disable ad blockers, privacy extensions, script blockers, and VPN browser extensions.
- Try another supported browser.
- Launch Roblox directly from the installed application or the Mac Dock. If direct launch works but the website does not, the handoff—not the game client—is the immediate problem.
- If the browser still cannot detect Roblox, perform the clean reinstall described below.
Browser extensions, security settings, and stale files can interfere with loading, according to Roblox’s website and connection guidance.
Check antivirus, firewall, VPN, and overlays
Security and monitoring software can prevent Roblox from starting or communicating, making the window look frozen. Diagnose this in a controlled way:

- Choose one suspected tool—VPN, third-party antivirus, firewall rule, DNS filter, parental-control product, or game overlay.
- Disable only that tool briefly and test Roblox.
- Re-enable it immediately.
- If it was the cause, add a narrow Roblox allowlist or exception instead of leaving protection disabled.
On Windows, Roblox files commonly reside under C:Users<YourWindowsUsername>AppDataLocalRoblox. Check antivirus quarantine before restoring anything, update the security product, and restore or allowlist only verified Roblox files. On a work, school, or managed family computer, an administrator may control these settings. See Roblox’s firewall and router and third-party security guidance.
Separate a connection freeze from a broken client
- Restart the router and, if available, test a wired connection.
- Disconnect the VPN.
- Try a phone hotspot briefly.
- Test Roblox on another device using the same home network.
- Works on the hotspot but not home Wi-Fi: investigate the router, ISP, DNS filtering, firewall, or Wi-Fi reliability.
- Fails on every connection: the client, account, device, or Roblox service is more likely.
- High ping while controls still respond: this is lag, not necessarily a nonresponsive process.
Roblox says error 279 / ID 17 generally means the client could not establish a connection with Roblox servers. Read its error 279 guidance and general connection guidance.
Ports and managed networks
Do not open broad port ranges as a first step. Roblox says the client dynamically selects outgoing ports; its connection documentation also lists UDP ports 49152–65535. First check router parental controls, blocked UDP traffic, firewall rules, and managed-network restrictions. School, work, hotel, and public Wi-Fi may not permit changes; contact the network administrator or ISP instead. Sources: firewall and router issues and connection problems.

Update the system and verify requirements
Install pending Windows or macOS updates, update your browser, and install the current graphics driver from NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel where applicable. Close memory- or GPU-heavy background programs and ensure adequate free disk space.
Roblox’s requirements page, checked for this article in October 2026, lists 64-bit Windows 10 or Windows 11, macOS 10.13 High Sierra or later, DirectX 10 or higher feature-level support on Windows, approximately 1 GB of recommended Windows memory, and approximately 300 MB of recommended installation storage. It lists Linux as unsupported. Requirements may change; consult the current official requirements before concluding that software repair can help.
Perform a clean reinstall
Windows
- Close Roblox and Roblox Studio.
- Go to Settings > Apps > Installed apps, select Roblox, and uninstall it.
- Restart the computer.
- If the problem remains, remove
%localappdata%Robloxusing File Explorer or the optional command above. - Clear Roblox browser cookies and temporary files.
- Download Roblox again from the official Roblox website.
- Close other programs during installation, then test a simple experience before restoring extensions or custom security settings.
Mac
- Quit Roblox and restart macOS.
- Remove the Roblox application using Finder, then clear Roblox logs and, if needed, preference files as described in the Mac section.
- Reinstall from the official Roblox website.
- Check System Settings > Privacy & Security if macOS blocks the application.

When Roblox or one experience is the cause
If many experiences fail for many users, the status page may show a Roblox incident. If two or more other experiences work, report the affected experience to its creator or through Roblox’s appropriate support channel. A single broken place is not proof that your client is damaged.
During a confirmed outage, avoid repeated reinstalls and wait for service recovery. After service returns, retry once before making local changes.
Contact Roblox Support with useful evidence
Escalate when the problem persists across experiences and networks after cache cleanup, updates, security checks, and a clean reinstall. Use Roblox Contact Us and include:
- Your Roblox username.
- Windows or macOS version and device model.
- The exact error text or code, including 279 / ID 17, 403, or “Failed to load library” if shown.
- Whether every experience fails or only one.
- Whether another browser, device, or network changes the result.
- Exact reproduction steps, time of occurrence, and any recent update or security-software change.
- Relevant screenshots or logs, with personal information removed.
Do not use registry cleaners, “DLL fixer” downloads, driver-updater utilities, or paid repair software as a substitute for these steps. They cannot establish whether the fault is Roblox, your network, or your system and can create additional security or stability problems.
