Roblox says this installs the current Player. If that fails, remove Roblox, restart the Mac, and reinstall it from the Roblox website.
Try the official browser fix first
The “Upgrade Failed” message usually indicates a failed Roblox client update or installation on the Mac, not that the experience itself is unavailable. Roblox’s specific workaround is to launch an experience from its website rather than opening the Mac app directly.
- Open an updated Safari, Chrome, or Firefox browser.
- Sign in at Roblox.
- Open any experience you are allowed to play and click Play.
- Accept the prompt to open Roblox when macOS displays it.
- Follow any install or update instructions, then open the experience again.

If clicking Play does nothing
- Check Applications or the Dock for Roblox and try opening it there.
- Try another supported browser.
- Temporarily disable browser extensions, especially ad blockers and content blockers.
- Clear that browser’s temporary files and Roblox cookies, then sign out and back in.
- Restart the Mac and try the experience page again.
These symptoms can result from browser data, firewall restrictions, or an incomplete installation; Roblox lists them among common desktop launch problems at General Desktop Roblox Issues.

Force-quit Roblox and restart macOS
Roblox or Roblox Studio left running in the background can prevent an updater from replacing files.
- Press Command–Option–Escape.
- Select Roblox or Roblox Studio if either appears, then choose Force Quit.
- Restart the Mac from the Apple menu.
Retry the browser-based installation after the restart. If the error returns, perform the clean reinstall below.
Cleanly reinstall Roblox
Use this procedure when the local installation is damaged, incomplete, or stuck in an update loop. Removing the application does not delete your Roblox account, purchases, or cloud-saved experience data.
Remove the existing app
- Close Roblox and Roblox Studio. Use Force Quit if necessary.
- Open Finder > Applications.
- Drag Roblox to the Trash, or select it and choose Move to Trash.
- Empty the Trash. This permanently removes the application.
- Restart the Mac.

Install a fresh copy
- Open Safari, Chrome, or Firefox and sign in to Roblox.
- Open an experience and click Play.
- Approve the prompt to download or open Roblox.
- If installation does not start automatically, search Finder for
Roblox.dmg(usually in Downloads) and double-click it. - Follow the installer prompts and confirm Roblox appears in Applications.
- Launch the experience again from the website.

If Roblox keeps asking you to install it
An endless install prompt often means the browser cannot detect the installed client, temporary browser data is interfering, or the installation did not finish.
- Confirm Roblox is actually in Applications, not only mounted from the DMG.
- Try a different supported browser.
- Clear browser cache and cookies for Roblox.
- Disable extensions temporarily, then retry.
- Sign out of Roblox, restart the Mac, and sign in again.
Clear Roblox logs and reset preferences
Use these local-file repairs only after restarting and reinstalling. They affect diagnostic files and local settings, not your online account.
Delete Roblox log contents
- Press Command–Space.
- Enter
~/Library/Logs/Roblox/and press Return. - Delete the contents of that folder, not unrelated folders.
- Try the update or launch again.

Reset Roblox preference files
- Open Finder and hold Option while opening the Go menu.
- Choose Library, then open Preferences.
- Move Roblox-related
comfiles to a temporary backup folder on the Desktop. - Restart Roblox. It should recreate needed preference files.
Do not delete the entire Library folder or unrelated preference files. Moving the Roblox files first makes the change reversible.
Check macOS compatibility and permissions
Operating-system requirements
Roblox lists macOS 10.13 High Sierra or later as its Mac requirement and says Apple Silicon/M1 is supported. Check Apple menu > About This Mac, or System Settings > General > About. Update macOS if your Mac supports a newer version. Newly released or beta macOS versions may not be supported immediately. Roblox’s requirements are listed at Computer Hardware & Operating System Requirements.
Roblox lists 300 MB of storage as a recommendation; keep additional free space for downloads and macOS temporary files.
Privacy and security approval
If the installer downloads but will not open, go to System Settings > Privacy & Security (called System Preferences on older macOS). Review any Roblox warning or permission request and approve it only when the installer came from Roblox’s official website. Do not download unofficial copies. Check browser, firewall, VPN, and network restrictions
When Roblox installs successfully but cannot join an experience, repeated reinstalls are unlikely to fix a connection problem.
- Use an updated Safari, Chrome, or Firefox and test another browser.
- Temporarily test without a VPN.
- Try another connection, such as a phone hotspot, to distinguish a Mac problem from a school, work, router, or ISP restriction.
- Check third-party firewall, antivirus, or security software. If it blocks Roblox, turn protection back on and add an allow rule rather than leaving it disabled.
- On managed Macs, ask the administrator before changing network or security settings.
Roblox identifies firewall and security restrictions in Firewall and Router Issues and Third-party Applications or Antivirus Software Restrictions. Its connection guidance lists UDP ports 49152–65535 for Roblox traffic; changing router rules is normally an administrator task. Roblox recommends 4–8 Mb/s for a single-use household in its requirements information.
Check parental controls
macOS parental controls or family-management profiles can block Roblox from connecting or launching. As a diagnostic test, a parent or administrator can temporarily relax the restriction, then add Roblox to the approved list if that resolves the problem. Do not permanently remove safety controls merely to install an update. See Mac Parental Controls.
Make sure Roblox is not experiencing an outage
Check the official Roblox service-status page before spending significant time reinstalling. A platform outage, authentication failure, or service incident cannot be repaired by changing files on your Mac.

Contact Roblox Support if the browser install, clean reinstall, and local checks fail. Include:
- Your Roblox username.
- The exact message, such as “Upgrade Failed.”
- Mac model and macOS version.
- The steps that reproduce the failure.
- Whether Roblox appears in Applications and whether
Roblox.dmgopens. - Recent changes to macOS, your network, VPN, firewall, antivirus, or parental controls.
