October 16, 2025 has passed. The ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X launched on that date, so there is no active preorder window ahead of October 16 in 2026. This guide preserves the original preorder information and explains where to check the official listings now.
The US launch prices were $599.99 for the ROG Xbox Ally and $999.99 for the ROG Xbox Ally X. Current stock, pricing, bundles, and availability must be verified on the live Microsoft Store, Microsoft Store Ally X listing, or ASUS US listings.
What the original preorder offered
Preorders opened in September 2025 in select markets, with other regions following separately. Xbox directed buyers to ASUS and participating retailers rather than promising one universal worldwide checkout route. Availability, pricing, bundles, payment rules, and delivery estimates varied by country and retailer.

For US buyers, the two launch prices were:
- ROG Xbox Ally: $599.99.
- ROG Xbox Ally X: $999.99.
Those were US launch prices, not worldwide prices. Do not apply them to UK, European, or other regional listings.

Both are Windows gaming handheld PCs with Xbox branding and an Xbox-oriented software experience; they are not traditional closed-platform consoles. They are intended to provide access to Xbox and PC gaming, subject to the games, services, and storefronts supported by Windows.
The Ally X was not automatically the better value for every buyer. Its $400 premium buys a higher-end processor platform, more memory, and twice the listed storage. That makes the difference more meaningful for demanding PC games, multitasking, and longer-term ownership than for streaming or less-demanding games.
Choose the ROG Xbox Ally if:
- $599.99 is the practical budget limit.
- You mainly play less-demanding games or stream games.
- 512GB is sufficient, or you are prepared to expand storage after checking compatibility.
- You want the Xbox-oriented interface without paying for the premium configuration.
Choose the ROG Xbox Ally X if:
- You want the stronger of the two performance configurations.
- 24GB of memory and 1TB of storage justify the additional $400.
- You expect to play demanding PC games or multitask heavily.
- You value additional hardware headroom more than the lowest entry price.
Where US buyers could preorder
ASUS eShop
The ASUS US ROG Ally availability page was the manufacturer’s purchase route. It was useful for checking official model listings, ASUS warranty information, and any ASUS-specific promotion. Current ASUS catalog entries should not be treated as proof that the 2025 preorder was still open; select the exact product and SKU shown on the live page.
Microsoft Store
Microsoft listed separate pages for the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X. The historical Ally X listing said a credit card was required for preorder and that the card would not be charged until shipment or digital availability. That was Microsoft Store wording, not a rule that applied to every retailer.
Participating retailers
Xbox and ASUS also announced availability through participating retailers worldwide. Not every retailer necessarily carried both models, and retailer pages could differ on shipping, pickup, payment authorization, cancellations, warranty handling, and bundles. Use the official Xbox product page as a discovery hub, then confirm the actual retailer page before ordering.

How the original preorder process worked
- Open the official Xbox product page or the relevant ASUS or Microsoft product page.
- Select the exact model: ROG Xbox Ally or ROG Xbox Ally X.
- Follow the retailer’s purchase or Buy now link.
- Check the model name, price before tax, memory, storage, shipping address, and fulfillment method.
- Read the displayed delivery estimate. “October 16” could refer to the product’s release date rather than a guaranteed delivery date.
- Sign in or create the retailer account required for checkout.
- Review payment authorization, cancellation terms, return policy, shipping charges, taxes, and any bundle conditions.
- Complete checkout using a payment method accepted by that retailer.
- Save the order number and confirmation email.
- Monitor the order page for payment reauthorization problems, a revised ship date, or cancellation.
Retailer interfaces and terms may have changed since 2025. A current page should not be presented as an identical reconstruction of the original preorder flow.
What “ahead of October 16” did—and did not—mean
There were four separate dates or statuses to distinguish:

- Release date: October 16, 2025, when the products officially launched.
- Estimated delivery date: the retailer’s individual forecast for a particular order and destination.
- Launch-day availability: a statement that stock was intended to be available around launch, not a guarantee that every preorder would arrive on October 16.
Delivery estimates could change after an order was placed. A contemporary buyer report documented an Ally X estimate being pushed to December 12, but that is anecdotal evidence, not a universal delivery rule. Always rely on the date in the final order confirmation and subsequent order updates, not only on a product-page banner.
If the preorder button was missing
A missing button could mean the retailer had exhausted its initial allocation, the listing was out of stock, the region was unsupported, the page had switched from preorder to ordinary sales, or the displayed delivery estimate had moved beyond launch day. It could also mean you were viewing a different ROG Ally model or that your ZIP code did not support the shown shipping or pickup option.
The safest recovery steps were:
- Check ASUS and Microsoft directly.
- Use retailer links from the official Xbox page rather than an unfamiliar marketplace listing.
- Check both model pages independently.
- Try shipping if pickup is unavailable, or pickup if shipping is unavailable.
- Verify the manufacturer model number, seller identity, warranty, fulfillment method, return policy, and final price.
- Avoid paying a reseller premium for an uncertain launch-day promise.
Payment, cancellation, and regional cautions
Retailers may authorize a payment method at checkout, place a temporary hold, charge immediately, or charge when the product ships. Microsoft’s historical preorder listing described its own credit-card and shipment-charging policy; do not generalize that policy to ASUS or other retailers.
Before submitting an order, check taxes, shipping, cancellation rights, return windows, regional restrictions, and whether the listed configuration is the local SKU. Memory, storage, charger, warranty terms, included services, and bundle contents can differ by market. Keep US dollar pricing and US warranty information separate from listings in other countries.

Do not assume that a particular Game Pass offer was included. Any promotion depended on the market, retailer, SKU, and promotion dates. ASUS published market-specific preorder terms, including an example available in its preorder terms document.
Similarly, do not assume every existing ROG Ally case, dock, screen protector, or power adapter fits the Xbox-branded models. Verify dimensions, button cutouts, power delivery, and compatibility for the exact device.
Reasons to buy now versus wait
The original preorder made sense for someone who wanted one of these handheld PCs at launch, had confirmed stock from a reputable seller, and already knew which configuration matched their needs. The Ally X was the more defensible choice for buyers who would use its additional performance, 24GB memory, and 1TB capacity. The standard Ally was the more sensible choice when the $400 difference mattered or the workload was relatively light.
Waiting was also reasonable. A preorder did not guarantee launch-day delivery, the price gap was substantial, and early hardware or software behavior may not have been fully understood before independent reviews. Buyers who already owned a recent ROG Ally might see less benefit from upgrading than first-time handheld buyers. Depending on your library and budget, an existing handheld PC, Steam Deck, gaming laptop, or cloud-gaming setup could be a better fit.
Current buying status
The historical preorder opportunity is closed because the devices launched on October 16, 2025. For a purchase today, use the current Microsoft Store Ally listing, Microsoft Store Ally X listing, or ASUS US catalog. Confirm the exact model, current price, stock, seller, warranty, delivery estimate, and bundle before paying. Current 2026 ASUS listings should not be used to reconstruct or imply an active 2025 preorder.
