You should not need to buy or enter an activation key to download the free-to-play base game Roller Champions. Ubisoft’s PC listing says to use a Ubisoft account and Ubisoft Connect; Steam also lists the base game as free to play and requires a Ubisoft account. If a key prompt appears, check which account and download route you are using, then consult Ubisoft’s help page for the exact message.
Does Roller Champions require an activation key?
Ubisoft describes Roller Champions as free-to-play and says the PC game is added to your Ubisoft Connect library for download. Its PC requirements include a Ubisoft account and Ubisoft Connect. Ubisoft’s Roller Champions page is the relevant starting point.

The Steam listing also identifies the base game as free to play and says a Ubisoft account is required for its Steam version. That listing does not establish that you need a key to download the base game either. Check Roller Champions on Steam if that is where you are downloading it.
What to check if a key prompt appears
- Confirm your download route. On PC, follow the Ubisoft Connect download path described on Ubisoft’s game page, or use the game’s Steam listing if you chose Steam.
- Check the Ubisoft account you are signed into. Make sure it is the account you intend to use. Ubisoft requires an account for its PC route, and Steam’s listing also specifies a Ubisoft account.
- Do not buy a key or enter a guessed code just to download the free base game. The free-to-play listings do not show that a key is required for that download.
- Use Ubisoft’s help page for the exact prompt. Ubisoft has an article titled “Activate a key message when launching Roller Champions on PC.” Its title describes a launch message, which is not necessarily the same as a prompt shown during downloading.
What is known about Ubisoft’s key-message advice
The Ubisoft Help article is specific to Roller Champions, but its troubleshooting text could not be verified from the accessible page. As a result, the reason for the prompt and Ubisoft’s current game-specific fix are not established here. Open the linked article for any instructions Ubisoft currently provides; do not assume a particular cause or remedy.

Ubisoft does mention switching offline and then back online in its Escape Games support FAQ for an activation-key ownership-verification issue. That advice is for a different Ubisoft product, so it is not a confirmed Roller Champions fix.
