RPCS3 shows “Could Not Find Any New Software” when it can’t recognize a game or package at the location you selected. The right fix depends on what you have: use File → Install Packages/Raps/Edats for a .pkg, and File → Add Games for a decrypted disc-game folder. If neither applies, check for an archive, an incorrectly nested folder, an ISO import issue, or a hidden Game Data category before changing emulator settings.
First, identify the file or folder you’re trying to add
This is usually an import or recognition problem: RPCS3 scanned the selected location and did not find new software in a format that the chosen command can add. Identify the content before troubleshooting further.

For a PKG: install it, don’t add it as a game folder
A .pkg is a package, commonly for a PSN game, update, application, or related content. It is not an extracted disc-game directory. To install one:

- In RPCS3, choose File → Install Packages/Raps/Edats.
- Select the
.pkgfile and let the installation complete. - If the content requires a license, install the matching license file through the same workflow where supported.
- Check the game list and relevant categories for the installed title.
A .rap is generally a license or activation file; it is not a game. Installing a RAP without the corresponding game package will not produce a playable game entry. An .edat is encrypted data or license-related content used by some titles, not a replacement for the base game.
Also check what the package contains. An update or DLC may depend on the matching base game and may not appear as a separate game. Installing a package successfully does not by itself prove that the title has everything it needs to launch. Use legally obtained game content and its associated licenses.
For a disc-game folder: check the structure and folder level
Use File → Add Games for a properly extracted, decrypted disc-game directory. A common structure looks like this:

└── ...The exact files vary by title, but PS3_GAME and PARAM.SFO are useful signs that you are looking at game content rather than a download wrapper. Open the directory you plan to scan and check how many levels you need to open before reaching PS3_GAME. If there are several extra levels, adjust the selected folder so RPCS3 can reach the actual game directory.

- Choose File → Add Games.
- Browse to the directory containing the game folder and let RPCS3 scan it.
- Refresh the game list if the title does not appear immediately.
Folder selection can be confusing: selecting a download folder that contains another folder of the same name may leave the game one level deeper than expected. Conversely, selecting an inner directory when the scan expects its parent may not work. A community report describes an extra nesting level preventing recognition; treat folder depth as a practical check, not a guarantee that every dump with this structure is valid (example).
If the game is still in an archive, extract it first
RPCS3 cannot scan the files inside a compressed archive as though they were an ordinary game directory. For example, if your download is GameName.7z, extract it. If the extracted result is Downloads/GameName/GameName/PS3_GAME, inspect the nested folders and select the appropriate game directory. Do not select the archive itself, an unrelated download folder, or a folder that contains only update data.
If you have an ISO
Do not assume every ISO will work through Add Games, and do not assume RPCS3 never supports ISO images. Detection can depend on the image, title, build, and workflow. RPCS3’s directory scan is most straightforward to troubleshoot with a valid decrypted game folder.
If an ISO is not recognized, verify that it is a valid, decrypted PS3 image and use the boot or import option available in your installed build. If necessary, extract it into a valid game directory and add that directory instead. Do not confuse the ISO itself with an extracted folder containing PS3_GAME.

A documented example illustrates why an absolute rule would be misleading: in RPCS3 issue #18602, a decrypted Resistance: Fall of Man ISO stopped being detected between builds v0.0.40-19184 and v0.0.40-19185, while the unpacked folder was detected. That report concerns a particular title and build change; it does not show that all ISOs fail or establish what every current build will do. If the problem persists, test the latest official build from RPCS3’s site.
If the content installed but isn’t visible
An installed item may be categorized as Game Data rather than shown with ordinary games. In RPCS3, open View and inspect Game Categories. Enable Game Data or the relevant category, and check whether hidden items are filtered. Refresh the list or restart RPCS3 afterward. Menu wording and available categories can vary by build.
A Steam Deck user report describes a title appearing after enabling View → Game Categories → Game Data (example). This is worth checking when content seems to be installed but is absent from the default list.

Linux, Steam Deck, Bazzite, and front-end setups
On Linux-based systems, an access problem can look like a bad game folder. Flatpak, AppImage, EmuDeck, RetroDECK, Bazzite, desktop mode, and gaming-mode setups may use different application permissions, paths, or RPCS3 configuration directories. Do not assume that two installations share the same game list or settings.

- Move one test game to a simple local directory and try scanning it. If it appears there, investigate access to the original drive or folder.
- Check that the installed RPCS3 version has permission to read the directory, particularly if the content is on removable storage.
- Confirm that the desktop-mode and gaming-mode launchers point to the installation and data directory you intend to use.
- If a front end manages the library, verify that its configured game path matches the directory RPCS3 can access.
Reports of mismatched lists and path issues exist for front-end and Linux configurations, including Bazzite, but these are environment-specific examples rather than universal fixes (Bazzite example; EmuDeck example). Moving a file locally is a useful diagnostic, not necessarily a good permanent library arrangement.
Resetting RPCS3’s configuration should be a last resort. Back it up first: a reset can remove controller mappings, per-game settings, and other customizations.

“Could Not Find Any New Software” does not automatically mean RPCS3 is missing firmware, the game needs a GPU driver, or the title is incompatible. It usually means the selected command did not recognize new content at that path. Keep these stages separate:
- Recognition: RPCS3 finds a game folder or package in the expected format.
- Installation: A package installs; this does not guarantee the base game, update, DLC, and license are all present and matched.
- Authorization or decryption: A later error may indicate a missing license or encrypted/incomplete content.
- Boot and compatibility: A title may launch and then show game-specific compatibility or performance problems.
RPCS3 generally needs official PS3 firmware for normal operation, but firmware is a separate prerequisite. Installing it will not turn an archive, ISO, package, or incorrectly nested directory into a recognizable game. If the content is recognized and you then get a firmware or boot error, consult the RPCS3 FAQ and obtain firmware only through legitimate channels.

When to suspect incomplete or invalid content
After checking the file type, folder depth, archive extraction, category filters, and permissions, look for signs that the content itself is incomplete:
- The expected
PS3_GAMEorPARAM.SFOis missing from a supposed disc-game dump. - The game folder lacks expected content such as
USRDIR, or files appear damaged. - The package is an update or DLC, but the matching base game is absent.
- The selected folder contains only
PS3_UPDATE, a lone disc marker file, or unrelated files rather than the game content. - Only one title fails while other known-good, legally obtained content is detected.
Do not conclude that a dump is corrupt solely from this message. If structure or files are missing, recopy or redump from an original disc or use a legitimately acquired source; repeatedly changing drivers or reinstalling RPCS3 will not repair missing game data.
Last checks before asking for help
- Test one known-good, legally obtained title in the correct format.
- Try it from a simple local path to separate file recognition from external-drive permissions.
- Check the game directory’s structure and the exact path you selected.
- Use the latest official RPCS3 build, and note its version if behavior changed after an update.
- Check RPCS3’s log for errors. When seeking help, include the title, file format, build, operating system, and selected path.
