RTX 4070 SUPER vs RTX 4070 Ti: specifications
| Specification | RTX 4070 SUPER | RTX 4070 Ti |
|---|---|---|
| Architecture | Ada Lovelace | Ada Lovelace |
| CUDA cores | 7,168 | 7,680 |
| Memory | 12GB GDDR6X | 12GB GDDR6X |
| Memory interface | 192-bit | 192-bit |
| Launch price | $599 | $799 |
The RTX 4070 Ti has 512 more CUDA cores, but neither card has a memory-capacity advantage. Both use 12GB of GDDR6X on a 192-bit interface. That matters because the Ti is not a higher-VRAM alternative; its case rests on additional GPU performance, not greater memory capacity.
Gaming performance: the Ti is faster, but not dramatically faster
The RTX 4070 SUPER sits much closer to the RTX 4070 Ti than the product names might suggest. In TechSpot’s cited ray-tracing averages, the SUPER was approximately 8% behind the Ti at 1440p. That gives the Ti a legitimate performance lead, but it is a single-digit result from a particular test suite—not a guarantee that every game will show the same gap.

Actual differences depend on the game, graphics settings, resolution, CPU, ray-tracing features, and whether DLSS or another upscaling mode is enabled. Some games will show a larger gap, while others will show a smaller one. The practical takeaway is that both cards occupy the same broad performance class rather than serving completely different audiences.
1440p gaming
Both GPUs are well suited to high-quality 1440p gaming. NVIDIA positioned both the RTX 4070 SUPER and RTX 4070 Ti as cards for demanding, max-settings 1440p play, although the achievable frame rate varies considerably by title and settings.

However, the SUPER is usually the better-balanced choice when the Ti costs substantially more. Put the saving toward a 1440p high-refresh monitor, a faster CPU, a larger SSD, or simply keep it in your budget rather than paying a large premium for a modest uplift.
4K gaming
Neither card should be treated as an uncompromising 4K flagship. Both can play at 4K when settings are selected carefully and upscaling is used where appropriate, but demanding games—particularly with heavy ray tracing—may require reduced settings or a performance-focused DLSS mode.
The RTX 4070 Ti’s extra GPU resources help at 4K, but the shared 12GB memory capacity remains relevant. Choosing the Ti does not remove the possibility that a future or especially demanding game may benefit from more VRAM.
Ray tracing, DLSS, Reflex, and AV1 features
Both cards use NVIDIA’s Ada Lovelace architecture and support the RTX 40-series feature set, including hardware-accelerated ray tracing, DLSS, Reflex, and AV1-era video-encoding capabilities. There is no major feature-set separation that makes the RTX 4070 Ti categorically better for ordinary gaming.

DLSS can make high-resolution or ray-traced gaming more practical by rendering internally at a lower resolution and reconstructing the image. Results vary by game, preset, and implementation, so it should be considered a useful option rather than a universal substitute for raw GPU performance.
Power efficiency and system requirements
The RTX 4070 SUPER is generally the more efficient card in the cited independent testing. Lower power use can mean less heat, less fan noise, and more power-supply headroom. It is a particularly attractive choice for a compact build or a system where cooling and acoustics matter.
Do not assume every RTX 4070 SUPER or RTX 4070 Ti has identical power requirements. Add-in-card models can differ in cooler design, factory power limits, dimensions, and connector implementation.
For relevant Founders Edition preparation guidance, NVIDIA specifies a 650W minimum system-power recommendation and describes two connection methods: two PCIe 8-pin cables connected to the included adapter, or one 300W-or-greater PCIe Gen 5 power cable. NVIDIA also notes that a higher power rating may be needed depending on the rest of the system. Check the exact board-partner specification and your complete system before choosing a 650W power supply or cable.
- Verify the card manufacturer’s recommended PSU wattage.
- Check whether the card uses an adapter or a native PCIe Gen 5 connector.
- Use the required number of dedicated PCIe power cables rather than relying on an unsuitable splitter.
- Confirm that the case supports the card’s length, height, thickness, and power-cable bend clearance.
VRAM and long-term value
Both cards have 12GB of GDDR6X memory, so the RTX 4070 Ti does not solve a VRAM-capacity concern. The choice between them should therefore focus on price, performance, efficiency, and the implementation of the particular card.
12GB may become a consideration in especially demanding future games or creator workloads, but there is no reliable basis here for promising a specific useful lifespan. If your priority is maximum memory capacity for long-term 4K gaming or professional work, compare these cards with alternatives that offer more than 12GB rather than assuming the Ti is automatically better.

Streaming and creator workloads
Both GPUs are relevant to gaming-and-streaming systems because they belong to NVIDIA’s RTX 40-series platform and support AV1 encoding. AV1 can be useful for livestreaming and recording when the chosen software, platform, and viewer devices support it. The RTX 4070 Ti announcement and NVIDIA’s Studio material also describe AV1 workflows and dual eighth-generation encoders.
An AV1 streaming GPU such as either of these can reduce the need to choose between game performance and video encoding, but do not expect a fixed export or livestreaming speedup without testing the specific application, codec, resolution, effects, and bitrate. CUDA resources can matter to some creator applications, giving the Ti a possible advantage, but that advantage is workload-specific.

Use the current price difference—not the launch MSRP—as the deciding factor.
Buy the RTX 4070 SUPER when the RTX 4070 Ti costs materially more. You are generally giving up a single-digit percentage of gaming performance in the cited 1440p ray-tracing comparison while retaining the same 12GB memory capacity and broad feature set.
Consider the RTX 4070 Ti when its real-world premium is small enough that the extra performance, a better cooler, a preferred warranty, a more suitable size, or better availability makes the purchase worthwhile.

- Phase-change GPU thermal pad helps ensure optimal thermal performance and longevity, outlasting traditional thermal paste for graphics cards under heavy loads
As a practical framework, a large premium is difficult to defend for roughly single-digit performance gains. A small premium can be reasonable if you play GPU-limited games, use a high-refresh 1440p display, work in an application that benefits from the Ti’s additional CUDA resources, or have found a particularly good Ti model. This is a buying inference from the benchmark relationship and original pricing, not a universal price threshold.
Which RTX 4070 SUPER model should you buy?
If you choose the SUPER, compare the specific board rather than buying solely on the GPU name. A factory-overclocked model may not be meaningfully faster, while cooler quality, noise, dimensions, warranty support, and connector layout can affect the ownership experience more than a small clock-speed difference.
Before purchasing an RTX 4070 SUPER graphics card, verify:
- Whether the listing is new, used, or refurbished.
- The exact board-partner model and its published specifications.
- Card length, height, thickness, and clearance around the power connector.
- Recommended PSU capacity and the required power connection.
- Warranty coverage and whether the seller is authorized or reputable.
- Current price, stock status, and return policy.
- That it is the 12GB desktop card—not a laptop GPU or similarly named product.
When the RTX 4070 Ti is the better choice
The RTX 4070 Ti is not a bad GPU; its original $799 launch price simply made its value proposition difficult beside the $599 RTX 4070 SUPER. In a later market, that conclusion can change if Ti inventory is discounted or if SUPER stock is unusually expensive.
Choose the Ti when:
- Its current price is close to the price of a comparable RTX 4070 SUPER.
- You want the additional performance for demanding 1440p or carefully configured 4K gaming.
- A particular Ti model has a quieter cooler, better dimensions, stronger warranty, or better availability.
- Your application has verified performance benefits from the Ti’s additional CUDA cores.
- You have checked the power supply and case compatibility and accept the higher purchase and operating cost.
RTX 4070 SUPER vs RTX 4070 Ti: final verdict
The RTX 4070 SUPER is the better default choice for most gamers. It offers near-RTX 4070 Ti gaming performance, the same 12GB of GDDR6X memory, the same broad Ada Lovelace feature platform, and generally better efficiency. Its $599 launch price also established a much stronger value position, although current listings—not launch prices—must determine what you pay now.
