At launch, NVIDIA’s RTX 4080 SUPER starting price was $999, and several cards were listed at that price through Best Buy. No current August 2026 price or inventory has been verified, so treat the listings below as historical, not live buying options.
What the Amazon sellout claim actually meant
On January 31, 2024, launch-day coverage reported that lower-priced RTX 4080 SUPER options were selling quickly and that availability through NVIDIA’s storefront was limited. That supports a narrow claim about launch stock—not that every RTX 4080 SUPER model had sold out on Amazon, or that the same situation exists now. The report did not establish a comprehensive, SKU-by-SKU Amazon inventory check or distinguish every listing’s seller and fulfillment status. The dated launch report is useful context, not a current stock feed.
For a present-day check, search by the exact model name and inspect the listing itself: who sells it, who ships it, whether the condition is new, and whether checkout accepts the order at the displayed price. A product page or search result alone does not confirm available stock. Amazon’s search page is here; it does not establish a current price or availability by itself.
Which cards were listed at $999 at launch
The following were historical U.S. launch listings reported at $999 through Best Buy. They are not confirmed to be in stock or at that price now.

The source report did not supply durable part numbers, seller and fulfillment details, or a current stock check for these entries. Best Buy’s RTX 4080 SUPER search is a place to check listings, not proof that these launch offers remain available.

A higher-priced partner model may offer a different cooler, dimensions, factory settings, or warranty, but its name or overclock label alone does not establish a meaningful gaming-performance advantage. The launch-price report does not provide independent comparative testing, model-specific dimensions, or warranty terms. Check those details with the card maker before paying extra. Newegg’s RTX 4080 SUPER search can surface listings, but confirm the seller, condition, shipping, rebate terms, and return policy on each one.
What “MSRP” means for this card
The $999 figure was the RTX 4080 SUPER’s U.S. launch starting price, not a guaranteed ceiling for every partner card. The Founders Edition is NVIDIA’s reference design; ASUS, Gigabyte, MSI, ZOTAC, PNY, and other board partners sell their own versions, which can differ in cooler, clock settings, physical size, and warranty. A partner card listed at $999 was at the same price, but was not the same physical design as the Founders Edition.

For a current official check, NVIDIA’s store is an entry point, not a promise of a purchase path. The NVIDIA RTX 4080 family page currently includes placeholder pricing and availability text rather than a dependable live price or stock signal. It remains useful for reference specifications and compatibility: NVIDIA RTX 4080 family specifications.
Check fit and power before choosing a model
NVIDIA’s reference RTX 4080 SUPER specifications list 10,240 CUDA cores, 16GB of GDDR6X memory on a 256-bit interface, a 2.29 GHz base clock, and a 2.55 GHz boost clock. The reference card is rated at 320W total graphics power, with 750W recommended system power. That PSU recommendation is for NVIDIA’s reference configuration; CPU choice, overclocking, drives, and PSU quality can change what is appropriate for a particular build.

- Power connections: NVIDIA lists either three PCIe 8-pin cables used with the adapter or one 450W-or-greater PCIe Gen 5 cable. Check the exact card and PSU instructions before connecting it.
- Case clearance: The reference dimensions are 304 mm long, 137 mm wide, and three slots thick. Partner cards may be longer, taller, thicker, or heavier; use the exact model’s manufacturer dimensions and account for nearby fans or radiators.
- Power-cable room: NVIDIA recommends planning about 36 mm (1.4 inches) beyond card clearance for the cable. Avoid a sharp bend at the power connector; follow the GPU and PSU makers’ installation guidance.
- Display capability: NVIDIA lists support up to 4K at 240Hz or 8K at 60Hz with DSC and HDR. Actual output also depends on the display, cable, and connection used.
How to judge a listing rather than chase a headline price
- Match the exact card. Search the manufacturer and full model name, then verify the product details against the maker’s specification page. Similar names can refer to different cooler designs or product conditions.
- Verify seller and condition. Check “sold by” and “ships from” separately. Confirm whether the card is new, used, refurbished, or open-box, and whether the seller’s warranty and return terms apply to your region.
- Confirm the checkout price and delivery. Check shipping, tax, rebates, and the final cart total. A page marked in stock is not a completed purchase; checkout confirmation is the meaningful availability signal, and delivery estimates can change.
- Compare the premium with what you gain. A modest extra cost may be worthwhile for a quieter cooler, a better fit, clear local support, or a dependable return policy. A premium of $100 or more is difficult to justify on a factory-overclock label alone without relevant independent testing.
- Use a retailer page as a lead, not a guarantee. Old product pages may stay indexed after stock ends, and marketplace listings can be repriced. NVIDIA, Best Buy, and Newegg search pages do not independently verify current inventory.
Should you buy one now?
If you specifically need RTX 4080 SUPER-class performance, can support the card, and find a new unit from a reputable seller at a price you accept, judge that actual offer on its full cost, fit, return terms, and warranty—not on a 2024 launch listing. If only heavily marked-up cards remain, waiting for a better offer may make more sense than paying a scarcity premium.
If the price is the deciding factor, compare a discounted RTX 4080 and newer-generation GPUs available at a similar total system cost; prices and product availability need checking at the time you shop. A lower-tier GPU may also suit a target resolution and refresh rate that does not require 4080 SUPER-class performance. For used hardware, favor buyer protection, a verifiable serial number, and a real return window.
