A 9GB GDDR7 version has been reported as a possibility, but NVIDIA has not announced or listed one. For now, buyers should judge the confirmed 8GB card on its 1080p performance, memory limits, price, and fit in their PC—not on an unconfirmed upgrade.
Is a 9GB RTX 5050 coming?
It is possible, but it is not confirmed. On March 5, 2026, Tom’s Hardware reported that leaker Zed__Wang claimed NVIDIA may make an RTX 5050 with 9GB of 28Gbps GDDR7 memory on a 96-bit bus. NVIDIA has not confirmed that design, and no official release date, price, product page, or retail listing for it is established.
The reported configuration would retain the GB207 GPU and 2,560 CUDA cores. Its theoretical memory bandwidth would be 336GB/s, compared with 320GB/s for the current model—a reported 5% increase. Those figures describe a leak, not tested performance or an announced product.
What the confirmed desktop RTX 5050 includes
NVIDIA’s desktop specifications and launch announcement identify the RTX 5050 as an 8GB GDDR6 card with a 128-bit memory bus and 2,560 CUDA cores. NVIDIA announced a $249 starting price and retail availability in the second half of July 2025.

NVIDIA presents the card as part of its Blackwell generation, with DLSS 4, fourth-generation ray tracing, fifth-generation Tensor Cores, Reflex, Broadcast, and ninth-generation NVENC among its features. The announcement lists ASUS, Colorful, Gainward, Galaxy, GIGABYTE, INNO3D, MSI, Palit, PNY, and ZOTAC as add-in-board partners.
Is the 8GB RTX 5050 good enough for budget 1080p gaming?
It can be a substantial step up from older entry-level hardware, but it is not an automatic value pick. In its September 26, 2025 review, Tom’s Hardware found it much faster than the RTX 3050 at 1080p and generally comparable to the RTX 4060. The review nevertheless judged the $249 card overpriced for the performance it delivers.

1080p performance and features
The card is aimed at budget 1080p play, and DLSS 4 can be useful in supported games. Actual results depend on the game, settings, and feature support; the presence of DLSS or ray tracing hardware does not guarantee a particular frame rate. Tom’s Hardware also reported cases where the card’s 8GB of memory caused challenges, including situations in which Blackwell Multi-Frame Generation did not work as desired even at 1080p.
Memory headroom matters
Eight gigabytes is the confirmed capacity, so buyers should be cautious about assuming it will suit every demanding game or high-texture setting. The rumored 9GB version would add capacity but use a narrower 96-bit bus. Its reported bandwidth increase is modest on paper, and without an announced card or independent testing, the leak does not establish how it would perform in games.

Should you buy the 8GB card or wait?
Make the decision based on the card you can actually buy and the price you are offered. The $249 figure is NVIDIA’s announced starting price from 2025, not a guarantee of current local pricing. Compare the actual RTX 5050 listing against the RTX 5060, RTX 4060, Intel Arc B580, and AMD alternatives available in your market; no current competitor street prices are established here.
- Consider the RTX 5050 if its current price makes sense against alternatives, your target is 1080p, and the 8GB memory limit fits the games and settings you use.
- Wait for confirmed details if 9GB capacity is important to your decision. A leaker claim is not a reliable basis for predicting availability, price, or gaming performance.
- Look at other cards if the RTX 5050 costs close to faster alternatives or if your games regularly demand more memory headroom.
Check fit, cooling, and power before buying
Partner cards can differ in cooler design, dimensions, and factory configuration, so check the exact model rather than relying only on the GPU name. NVIDIA specifies one PCIe 8-pin cable and recommends a system power supply of at least 550W for the desktop card.

GIGABYTE documents RTX 5050 Gaming OC and Windforce OC models, as well as a 182mm low-profile model; its announcement said availability would begin July 1, 2025. Confirm the card’s length, slot clearance, cooling needs, and power connector against your case and system before ordering.
