Reports that Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 5060 Ti would copy the RTX 4060 Ti’s $399/$499 pricing were credible pre-launch rumors, not confirmed specifications. Nvidia announced the card on March 18, 2025, and launched it on April 16 at $379 for 8GB and $429 for 16GB in the United States. The two-tier memory strategy survived; the exact prices did not.
What the original rumor claimed
Leak-based reporting said Nvidia would repeat the RTX 4060 Ti formula: an 8GB RTX 5060 Ti at approximately $399, a 16GB version at approximately $499, and a $100 premium for doubling memory. The reported availability date was April 16, 2025. VideoCardz presented this as an unconfirmed rumor, not an Nvidia announcement: its report on the rumored pricing.
“Match the RTX 4060 Ti’s price point” referred to matching each capacity’s launch MSRP, not making every RTX 5060 Ti cost $399 or $499.
Why the RTX 4060 Ti comparison mattered
| Model | Original U.S. launch MSRP | Launch timing |
|---|---|---|
| RTX 4060 Ti 8GB | $399 | May 2023 |
| RTX 4060 Ti 16GB | $499 | July 2023 |
The 16GB RTX 4060 Ti cost $100 more than the 8GB card while remaining in the same general GPU class. Reviewers criticized that premium because the additional memory did not deliver a proportional increase in core performance. That history made a repeat of $399/$499 especially controversial. Nvidia’s official RTX 5060 Ti prices

Nvidia’s investor-relations release confirmed the U.S. starting prices, while Nvidia’s product announcement set April 16, 2025 availability: official pricing release and RTX 5060 family announcement. The same announcement listed the RTX 5060 at a $299 starting price for its planned May 2025 release.
So the rumor was wrong on the precise numbers but directionally right about the product segmentation. Nvidia kept 8GB and 16GB models and made the larger-memory card only $50 more at launch.
What changed technically
The RTX 5060 Ti uses Nvidia’s Blackwell architecture, GDDR7 memory and support for DLSS 4 features. Exact power, cooler and connector requirements vary by board partner; the reported power target is approximately 180W, so check the specification for the particular card before buying. Nvidia’s feature and performance statements are documented on its RTX 5060 Ti product page.

- 8GB or 16GB VRAM: both capacities use the same GPU class, but the 16GB card has substantially more memory headroom.
- GDDR7: the newer memory subsystem improves the platform over the RTX 4060 Ti generation, although it does not turn the card into a higher-tier GPU.
- DLSS 4: supported games can use upscaling and Multi Frame Generation. Generated frames increase displayed frame rates but are not equivalent to conventionally rendered frames.
- Ray tracing: performance depends heavily on the game, resolution, settings and whether DLSS is enabled.
How much faster is the RTX 5060 Ti?
Independent reviews describe a moderate generational step rather than a revolutionary one. Tom’s Hardware measured approximately 15% higher performance for the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB than the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB in its test suite. That is a review-specific result, not a guarantee: game selection, resolution, drivers, CPU limits, power limits, ray tracing and upscaling settings all change the outcome. See the Tom’s Hardware review and TechSpot’s testing.
Assess performance in separate categories:
- Rasterization: the conventional rendering gain over an RTX 4060 Ti is generally in the mid-teens in published testing.
- Ray tracing: Blackwell improvements and DLSS can help, but results vary by title and setting.
- DLSS upscaling: renders internally at a lower resolution and reconstructs the image; it is not native-resolution rendering.
- Frame generation: adds generated images between rendered frames. It can raise the displayed frame rate, but latency, artifacts and game support still matter.
Nvidia markets substantially higher performance for supported DLSS 4 workloads. Treat that as a vendor claim and keep it separate from independent native or conventional-rendering benchmarks.
Why the 8GB-versus-16GB choice matters
When 8GB is reasonable
- 1080p gaming at moderate settings.
- Esports, older or well-optimized games.
- A strict budget where the 16GB model is heavily marked up.
- A willingness to reduce texture quality as newer games become more demanding.
An 8GB card is not automatically unusable. Depending on the title and settings, it may deliver smooth play. In demanding releases, however, limited VRAM can cause texture pop-in, stutter, reduced texture quality, lower minimum frame rates or paging to system memory. PC Gamer’s review notes both the 8GB model’s capability at MSRP and the capacity constraint in some scenarios: PC Gamer’s 8GB review.

- 2.5-slot design allows for greater build compatibility while maintaining cooling performance
When 16GB is the safer purchase
- High texture settings, ray tracing or 1440p play.
- New AAA games, extensive mods or a multi-year ownership plan.
- Content-creation or AI applications that benefit from additional GPU memory.
- A launch-price gap close to $50.
Extra VRAM does not automatically increase frame rates when a game already fits comfortably in 8GB. Its value is avoiding memory-related compromises and retaining more settings headroom as software requirements rise.
Is the 16GB model worth $50 more?
At Nvidia’s launch MSRPs, generally yes. The RTX 5060 Ti 16GB cost half the capacity premium of the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB and combined that memory with the newer architecture and GDDR7 platform. For buyers keeping a card several years or using demanding textures, the $429 model was the more sensible default. That recommendation depends on the actual local price: a large retailer markup can erase the advantage.
MSRP is not the same as the price in a store
$379 and $429 were U.S. starting MSRPs, not guarantees that every board-partner model would be in stock at those prices. Larger coolers, factory overclocks, RGB hardware, higher power limits, regional distribution and retailer supply all affect the final price. Later reporting found RTX 50-series prices above MSRP and substantial variation among listings: Tom’s Hardware’s pricing report.

As of August 18, 2026, there is no single reliable U.S. street price for every RTX 5060 Ti variant. Date any price you publish, name the retailer and exact model, and label whether it is an MSRP, sale price or third-party listing. Prices outside the United States cannot be converted directly from these figures because taxes, exchange rates and regional launch pricing differ.
How to decide before buying
- Set the target resolution and games. Primarily 1080p esports points toward 8GB; high-texture 1440p and demanding AAA games favor 16GB.
- Compare the two models at the same retailer. If the difference is near $50, the 16GB card is easier to justify. If it is heavily inflated, reassess the whole purchase.
- Check the exact board. Confirm case length and slot thickness, power connectors, recommended PSU, cooling and warranty.
- Separate rendered and generated performance. Look for native or raster results, ray-tracing results, DLSS mode and frame-generation settings rather than one headline frame-rate number.
- Compare alternatives at the same dated price. A discounted RTX 4070-class card may deliver stronger raster performance; an AMD Radeon card may offer different VRAM and conventional-rendering trade-offs; Intel Arc can be cheaper where the buyer’s games run well. CUDA, Nvidia-specific AI features, warranty and used-card condition can change the decision.
Bottom line for RTX 4060 Ti owners and new buyers
The price-match story was a legitimate pre-launch rumor, but Nvidia did not repeat $399 and $499. The RTX 5060 Ti launched at $379 for 8GB and $429 for 16GB, with the 16GB model $70 below the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB’s original MSRP. Independent testing indicates a moderate, roughly mid-teens performance gain rather than a 50% or 2x native upgrade. Choose 16GB when its premium remains close to $50 and you value texture headroom or longer ownership; choose 8GB for lower-cost 1080p use; and reconsider both if current retail pricing makes a higher-tier or competing card better value.
