For a new graphics-card purchase, compare the actual prices of both cards rather than relying on their launch MSRPs. Independent testing found the RTX 5070 and RTX 4070 SUPER close in conventionally rendered gaming, with the winner changing by game. If their prices are similar and you want DLSS 4 Multi Frame Generation in supported games, the newer RTX 5070 is the stronger fit. If a verified RTX 4070 SUPER is materially cheaper, its similar conventional gaming performance can make it the better value.
How do the RTX 5070 and RTX 4070 SUPER compare?
The RTX 5070 is the newer card, with GDDR7 memory and support for DLSS 4 Multi Frame Generation. The RTX 4070 SUPER uses GDDR6X and remains competitive in conventional gaming. Both have 12 GB of memory, so neither offers a capacity advantage.

Which card is faster in games?
There is no consistent winner in conventional gaming performance. PCWorld’s March 4, 2025 review of the RTX 5070 Founders Edition found that the 5070 was a little faster in some tested games, the 4070 SUPER in others, and some results were effectively tied. Treat that as a finding from PCWorld’s test suite, not a prediction for every game, resolution, or PC.

For a 1440p build, PCWorld regarded the RTX 5070 as capable, but its results do not establish a universal performance lead over the 4070 SUPER. If you mainly play particular games, look for benchmarks of those titles at your target resolution and settings. The review also raised concern about 12 GB of memory for more demanding future use; both cards have the same capacity, so choosing the newer model does not resolve that concern.

What does DLSS 4 Multi Frame Generation change?
The RTX 5070 supports DLSS 4 Multi Frame Generation. In supported games, the feature can add up to three AI-generated frames between traditionally rendered frames, as described by PCWorld and NVIDIA. That can increase the displayed frame rate and make motion appear smoother, but generated frames are not the same as frames rendered natively by the GPU.
This feature is the clearest reason to favor the RTX 5070 when conventional performance is close. Check whether the games you actually play support Multi Frame Generation and whether you value its generated-frame smoothness. NVIDIA describes the feature in its RTX 5070 launch announcement; PCWorld discusses it in its review.

How should current prices affect the decision?
Launch prices are historical reference points, not a guide to what these cards should cost today. The RTX 5070 launched in the US with a $549 MSRP; the RTX 4070 SUPER launched at $599. Those launch MSRPs do not establish current availability or street value.
Prices and listings can differ substantially. PC Gamer’s October 1, 2026 price-watch entry showed one PNY RTX 5070 12 GB listed at $779 against a $549 MSRP. That is one dated retail observation, not a market average or a promise of current pricing. Check live listings for both cards and compare the exact product, seller, and warranty; a listing price alone does not establish that a card is a good buy.

Use this decision rule:
- Prices are close: Prefer the RTX 5070 if you expect to use DLSS 4 Multi Frame Generation in supported games.
- The RTX 4070 SUPER is materially cheaper: Consider it for conventional gaming, given the close but game-dependent results in PCWorld’s test suite.
- Either card is priced poorly against alternatives: Keep looking rather than treating the matchup as a reason to buy at any price.

- Its power connectors and the manufacturer’s power-supply requirements.
- Your PSU’s capacity and compatibility with those requirements.
- The seller, warranty, and return terms for the listing.
- The live price of both GPUs, not just the price shown in an old review or launch announcement.
NVIDIA lists 250 W total graphics power for the RTX 5070 and 220 W for the RTX 4070 SUPER, and recommends a 650 W system power supply for each reference specification. Board-partner models may differ; use the requirements for the exact SKU you select.
