What the rumor says—and what it does not establish
The October 4, 2026 Reddit post says SIE “recently opened its doors to licensing agreements and are accepting multiple game pitches.” It names Sly Cooper, Ape Escape and Killzone. The claim comes from the Reddit post, not from a Sony announcement: read the thread.

The post does not establish that Sony has approved a project, chosen a developer, or begun production on any of the named franchises. Its account of external development and funding or publishing arrangements is also unverified. Sony’s official materials cited here do not confirm a franchise-specific licensing program.
Are Sly Cooper, Ape Escape or Killzone coming back?

Sly Cooper is named in the rumor, but the official material reviewed does not confirm that Sony is bringing the series back or that a new game is in development.

Ape Escape is also named only in the Reddit claim. There is no confirmation in the reviewed official sources of a new game or an active project.
Killzone
The same distinction applies to Killzone: the rumor mentions the franchise, but the official material reviewed does not announce a return or a game in development.

Sony’s confirmed indie submission process is different
Sony does publish a general route for independent developers who want PlayStation teams to consider their games. In its April 7, 2026 guide, “Showing your Game to PlayStation,” Sony says developers should register as PlayStation Partners, provide a short project plan, and submit a title through the Independent Partner Title Form. The form brings games to teams considering support such as editorial features, digital events and social promotion. Sony’s guide explains the process.
- Register: Sign up as a PlayStation Partner.
- Prepare: Provide a short plan for the game.
- Submit: Use the Independent Partner Title Form to put the title forward for consideration.
Sony says it receives many submissions for limited support opportunities and that selection is not guaranteed. The company also says most indie success stories on PlayStation do not involve a formal deal. Those statements describe its general indie publishing and support context; they do not verify the reported licensing route for dormant first-party franchises. As John Vega, Director of Independent Partner Relations, and Shawne Benson, Director of Portfolio, put it: “Selection isn’t guaranteed, but your submission puts your game on our radar — and that awareness often becomes the starting point for future opportunities.”

The Playerbase is a separate fan program
Sony’s Playerbase announcement is not evidence that outside studios can pitch games based on PlayStation franchises. The initiative gives selected fans a chance to have their likeness scanned and appear in a PlayStation game, starting with Gran Turismo 7; Sony said additional PlayStation Studios titles may participate in the future. Isabelle Tomatis, Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Vice President, Global Marketing, described it as an opportunity for fans to step into game worlds through an in-game likeness. For now, the Reddit post is a rumor, while Sony’s published indie submission steps concern general game consideration rather than franchise licensing. Confirmation would require an attributable Sony announcement or other reliable evidence establishing that a licensing program exists and clarifying whether any specific project has been approved. Until then, the three franchises should be treated as names in an unverified claim, not games Sony has announced.
