A report published by Gameranx on October 2, 2026, attributes the claim to insider NateTheHate, who reportedly said Team Asobi is not involved. His comment about Bandai Namco was less certain: he said the publisher was not involved “to my knowledge” and that he would check further.
What the Ape Escape rumor actually says
Gameranx’s October 2, 2026 report, by Ryan Parreno, says NateTheHate had hinted that PlayStation was working on a new Ape Escape. The report also attributes two follow-up comments to him: “Not Asobi,” and a qualified statement about Bandai Namco.
A post in r/GamingLeaksAndRumours reproduces the statements and links to NateTheHate’s ResetEra posts. In that post, he is quoted as saying Sony is “looking to bring back some dormant franchises,” then adding, “Not Asobi.” On Bandai Namco, he reportedly said: “Bamco is not involved, to my knowledge. But I’d have to check further to be 100% certain, as it has been a while since I last checked in on the project.” These are attributed insider comments, not confirmation from Sony or either company.
Has PlayStation announced a new Ape Escape?
No official announcement is established in the reviewed sources. The claim remains a rumor attributed to NateTheHate, rather than a confirmed PlayStation project. The report does not name a developer or establish a release date, platform, genre, or whether the game would be a new installment or a remake.

Is Team Asobi making it?
The statement attributed to NateTheHate says “Not Asobi,” so the rumor reportedly rules out Team Asobi. It does not identify who might be developing the game. Team Asobi is described in Gameranx’s report as a successor to Japan Studio, which was a main developer behind the franchise; that history does not reveal which studio, if any, is attached to the rumored project.
Is Bandai Namco involved?
That point is unresolved. NateTheHate reportedly said Bandai Namco was not involved “to my knowledge,” while explicitly saying he would need to check further to be certain. It would be inaccurate to turn that caveat into a definitive statement that the company has no involvement.

Would it be a sequel or a remake, and what platform would it use?
Neither question has an established answer. The report raises the possibility of PS5 versus a later PlayStation platform but does not resolve it. It also does not say whether the rumored project would continue the series with a new game or revisit an earlier one. Claims that it is a PS5 or PS6 release, a PlayStation exclusive, a remake, or a sequel would go beyond what the report supports.

According to Gameranx, the last main-series Ape Escape game came out in 2005, while the last game of any kind was the PlayStation Move title for PS3 in 2010. That long gap explains the interest in a possible revival, but it is franchise context—not independent evidence that a new game is in production.

For now, the specific takeaway is limited: comments attributed to NateTheHate point to a possible PlayStation revival and reportedly exclude Team Asobi, while the Bandai Namco point remains qualified.
