RuneFest 2026 brought two big stories together: Jagex announced a fourth RuneScape MMO and outlined major plans for both RuneScape and Old School RuneScape. But one of the event’s other headline announcements, RuneScape Reignited, is now being reevaluated. The convention ran October 3–4 at Birmingham’s NEC, where Pocket Gamer reporter Iwan Morris described a packed, friendly gathering of fans.
What was announced at RuneFest 2026?
The announcements ranged from a new RuneScape game that is still years away to a detailed 2027 content roadmap, plus fresh plans for Old School RuneScape. Reignited also drew attention, though its current status has changed since its stage presentation.
A fourth RuneScape MMO is in development
Jagex announced a fourth RuneScape MMO, described in coverage as “RS4” or the “fourth pillar.” Those are working references, not a confirmed final title. The new game is intended to sit alongside the existing RuneScape games, is being made in Unreal Engine, and is still several years away. Jagex says it wants to involve players early by sharing ideas, testing, listening and learning. No release year has been announced.
RuneScape Reignited was announced, then put under reevaluation
At the summit, Jagex presented Reignited as a fresh-start character type with a new economy and highscores, no paid progression, and ten days of access to members’ content. The original plan placed these characters in the same game worlds as existing characters, while keeping trading and Grand Exchanges separate between Reignited and veteran characters.

That presentation is no longer the whole story: Jagex’s official Reignited page now says the plan is being reevaluated. The December 2 launch plan should therefore not be treated as settled. GamesRadar+ reported that the announcement prompted both excitement and concern, including worries about splitting the player base. RuneScape creative director Ryan Philpott told GamesRadar+, “It’s been a privilege of my career to be able to steer the game back in the direction we think the game should have always been in.”
RuneScape’s 2027 roadmap has three story arcs
Jagex organized its RuneScape roadmap for 2027 around three arcs: Hoard of Dragons, The City of Gnomes, and Secrets of Karamja. The announced plans combine new content with reworks and remasters, and remain subject to change.
- Hoard of Dragons: Dragon Slayer II and an Agility rework.
- The City of Gnomes: The Curse of Arposandra, a new city, gnome quest remasters, and Glouphrie and Argento’s Nightmare encounters.
- Secrets of Karamja: a new raid, The Temple of Ah Za Rhoon.
Jagex also outlined a remaster of the early-player journey and an optional Adventure Guide to help new and returning players find their way. The roundup announced an October 6 beta for RuneScape plugins, initially including Quest Helper, Menu Entry Swapper, Tilemarkers, Entity Hider, and Job Gauges.
Old School RuneScape highlights included Menaphos
Pocket Gamer’s recap highlighted three Old School RuneScape announcements: hardcore worlds, Menaphos, and Fairytale III: Nexus of Power. The reporter described hardcore worlds as permadeath worlds where a character can move to regular play after dying. The recap also mentioned bosses including Ripgut and Gemstone Dragons, more dungeons, and quests adapted with Old School twists. It does not establish exact release dates or implementation details for these plans.

What was RuneFest like in person?
RuneFest took place October 3–4, 2026, at the NEC in Birmingham. Jagex announced the venue and a capacity of 6,000 fans; Pocket Gamer’s Iwan Morris later described “over 6000 attendees.” Those are different figures: the first is the organizer’s stated capacity, while the second is the reporter’s account, not an official final attendance count.
Morris described a packed convention hall, fans in cosplay and showing off merchandise, and people meeting in person after knowing one another online. He also observed Jagex developers and moderators circulating and helping attendees. That account conveys one reporter’s experience rather than a formal survey of the crowd.

The event’s official description advertised two permanent stages, Skill Chip activities, a questing experience, cosplay and immersive sets, community events, and developer panels. Together with the fan meetups Morris describes, those activities made RuneFest both an announcement showcase and an opportunity for players to spend time with the community around the games.

The fourth MMO is the biggest long-range reveal, but it has no firm release date. Reignited is the announcement to watch most carefully in the near term because Jagex is reevaluating its plan. For players focused on current games, the 2027 RuneScape roadmap offers the clearest outline of planned content, while Old School RuneScape’s headline reveals are still described without exact release timing in the event recap.
