RuneFest 2026 laid out 2027 plans for Old School RuneScape, RuneScape and RuneScape: Dragonwilds, but the roadmaps are not equally firm or detailed. Old School’s summit mixed a scheduled mode with proposals and poll-dependent content; RuneScape outlined a broad year of updates; Dragonwilds named story, skill and infrastructure plans. The official event material reviewed here does not verify an announcement of a new RuneScape MMO or provide details about one.
How the three roadmaps compare
The official RuneFest schedule listed separate summits for Dragonwilds, RuneScape and Old School RuneScape, with the latter two previewing 2027 plans. Jagex’s January 15, 2026 press release had described RuneFest 2026 as a two-day event at Birmingham NEC on October 3–4, with 6,000 fans and developer sessions.
| Game | What the roadmap emphasizes | How specific the commitment is |
|---|---|---|
| Old School RuneScape | A separate world mode, plus proposed quests, areas, bosses and skill changes | Mixed: one mode has a stated start date; much of the new content depends on polls or further development |
| RuneScape | Story chapters, a remastered player journey and supported plugins | Broad 2027 calendar, with some later-year expectations but no complete month-by-month schedule |
| RuneScape: Dragonwilds | A two-chapter story, a new skill and multiplayer and creator tools | Most detailed of the three in the official recaps, with a December 2026 update and several first-half 2027 plans |
Old School RuneScape: one scheduled mode, many proposals
The October 3, 2026 summit overview distinguishes planned releases from ideas still being considered. In particular, its proposed areas and systems should not be read as guaranteed 2027 launches.
Hardcore Worlds
Jagex announced Hardcore Worlds would begin November 4. These permanent, separate worlds give players one life and do not apply XP or drop-rate boosts. On death, a player can choose a full restart or transfer to the main game; items lost on death are excluded from a transfer. This is the clearest scheduled OSRS item in the overview.

Dungeons of Gielinor
This is a proposal for a suite of at least five bosses spanning difficulty levels, alongside a short early-game quest, Slayer creatures and improvements to some existing dungeons. The final boss roster was still in development. Jagex explicitly asked players whether and how the project should be added, so the proposed scale and features are not a finalized release commitment.
Menaphos
Jagex presented Menaphos as a proposed new area in the Kharidian Desert. The concepts include the Master-level quest Fool’s Gold, the true Soul Altar and the Vault of the Soul Altar skilling dungeon. The overview asked players whether the area should be added and which features it should include.

Mining, Smithing and quests
The summit asked whether Jagex should explore reworking Mining and Smithing; it did not set out a confirmed redesign. Quest ideas included Fairytale III – Nexus of Power, described as due in 2027 if it passes a poll, as well as The Chosen Commander and a proposed Quest Month. The overview also raised quality-of-life ideas for questing and new players.
RuneScape: a large 2027 calendar, not a full release schedule
Jagex’s RuneScape Reignited page calls 2027 the game’s biggest content calendar year to date and says the roadmap starts in January. It points to further chapters in ongoing story arcs and continued work on a remastered player journey. Parts II and III of that journey are expected later in 2027. The page also says officially supported plugins have been integrated into the game.

The page does not provide dates for every update or a comprehensive month-by-month lineup. Its “biggest” description is Jagex’s characterization of the calendar, rather than a detailed comparison of every year’s releases.

Hunter and future skills
Hunter is the next skill Jagex named, and the first of several new skills it plans for the following year. The described activities include sneaking, trapping and collecting creatures. The recap does not give a separate launch date for Hunter.

Continued updates
Jagex says free updates and quality-of-life improvements will continue, with player feedback informing those improvements. The recap does not attach a dated release schedule to that ongoing support.
Did RuneFest announce a new RuneScape MMO?
The official post-event material reviewed here does not substantiate the new-MMO claim in the headline. The Jagex RS25 press release, RuneFest schedule, OSRS summit overview, Dragonwilds summit recap and RuneScape Reignited page do not establish a new MMO’s name, platforms, release window, development status or relationship to the existing games. Community discussion is not enough to confirm those details, so the claim should be treated as unverified unless Jagex provides an official announcement or an authorized representative confirms it.
