RuneScape Reignited is pitched as a way to begin the adventure again, with a remastered journey, a Gielinor Adventure Guide, officially supported plugins and no Treasure Hunter. Some existing players are asking whether a new starting point will draw activity away from established characters and make years of progress feel less central. That concern is visible in community discussion, but it is not proof that the player base will split.
What RuneScape Reignited promises
Jagex describes Reignited as a chance to experience RuneScape from the beginning, shaped by recent restoration work. Its official Reignited page promotes a remastered journey from Lumbridge, a Gielinor Adventure Guide, officially supported plugins and a world without Treasure Hunter. The pitch is a shared clean starting point that foregrounds the core adventure.
The page advertises full Reignited access without membership from December 2 through December 12. The reviewed page copy does not identify the year or spell out eligibility and account conditions, so those details should not be inferred from the window alone.
Why some established players are wary
Some commenters have framed the concern as “splitting the playerbase” or “split the community.” Others question whether the new experience leaves “zero reasons to start in the old worlds,” or whether players are being asked to leave a long-standing main account behind. These are examples of individual player reactions, not the results of a representative poll.

The underlying issue is more than whether people try a new mode. A fresh start can create a lively shared beginning, but it can also redirect friends, clan activity and attention from existing characters. Whether it feels like fragmentation depends heavily on how Reignited characters relate to established ones—and the reviewed official page does not yet explain those rules in detail.
Will Reignited split the player base?
It is too early to say. Community posts show that the possibility worries some players, but they cannot establish how widespread that view is or predict how many people will play Reignited. The practical impact will depend on participation and on account, social, progression and economy rules that are not specified on the official page reviewed here.
Softonic describes Reignited as a permanent new character type and reports a separate economy, but those details are not confirmed by the official landing page. Treat them as independent reporting until Jagex publishes matching rules. A separate economy would matter, but it would not by itself reveal whether friends can still chat, join clans or play together across character types.
What players should check before choosing a character
These are the unanswered questions that determine whether Reignited is a parallel route into RuneScape or a more isolated experience:

- Account setup: Can an existing Jagex account hold both an established character and a Reignited character, or is a new account required?
- Membership: Is membership shared between character types? The access window advertised without membership does not answer what happens outside it.
- Social play: Can characters across types use friends lists, chat, clans, groups or shared social spaces?
- Trading and economy: Are trading and economic systems separate, and can items or currency cross between character types?
- Progress and rankings: Are high scores separate, and is any progress transferable?
- Availability: Is the mode available beyond the advertised December access period?
Those mechanics can change the meaning of “fresh start.” If social connections remain shared, Reignited may feel less like a separate community even if progression or trading is isolated. If accounts, grouping or interaction are segregated, the fragmentation concern becomes more concrete. Neither arrangement is established by the official page reviewed.

Reignited sits alongside Jagex’s wider 2026 restoration effort, but that context should not be mistaken for evidence that players support the new mode. In a September 24, 2026 post about MTX items, Jagex said 120,000 players voted in favour of removing Treasure Hunter and that more than 225 MTX items were removed from sale in January 2026. Those figures concern the restoration work, not Reignited’s expected audience.
For players drawn to starting over, the advertised guide, remastered journey and removal of Treasure Hunter give Reignited a clear identity. For those invested in an established character, the unresolved account and social rules are more useful decision points than the promise of a fresh beginning alone.
