When did the Rust October update come out?
Facepunch’s October Patch changelist identifies the Livestock Update as dated October 1, 2026. It does not specify when during the day the October 1 client patch went live, so there is no confirmed exact release time to report.

Facepunch separately announced that a mandatory Halloween server and client update would arrive on October 22 at 18:00 BST / 13:00 EST. That is the scheduled time for Halloween features, not the Livestock Update. The announcement does not provide a UTC conversion. See the Halloween Update announcement.
What changed in the Livestock Update?
Farm animals, food and bartering
The update adds farmable cows and sheep, with milk, skimmed milk and cream as new products. Players can make creamy and milky versions of most pure teas, and use beef and mutton in Shepherds Pie and Beef Pie. Sheep also provide wool. Vendor bartering is another economy addition.

World additions and cosmetics
Facepunch added decorative frogs, rabbits, squirrels, sea turtles, crabs and jellyfish, plus new powergrid loot rooms at many monuments. Sandbags can now be stacked. The machete received refreshed art and animations, the game gained 11 achievements, and a Plague Hazmat Suit skin was added. Ladder hatches across all variants became skinnable.
Throwables and gameplay changes
Client prediction was added for grenades, C4 and satchels. Facepunch contributor Ian Henderson said the local client simulates a throw before the server response, with corrections applied if the two disagree. The aim is to make throws feel smoother, particularly at higher ping; the prediction is not a guarantee that the client and server will always match.

Oil Rig crude pumping now takes 15 minutes to start producing. At Power Plant, heavy-fuse decay now scales with server population: fuses last four times longer at 10 or fewer players, then scale back to the previous lifetime at 100 or more. The Water Wheel received substantially more melee protection. Air Wolf will not sell air vehicles until its helipad is repaired.
Performance work and fixes
The changelist also includes updated weapon animations, client-side loading and unloading of store assets, renderer and texture optimizations, vehicle-physics work, and detailed frame timing in the F8 performance overlay. Facepunch reports removing 133 meshes, saving roughly 100MB of memory in total, and removing more than 15,000 renderers from a standard procedural-generation world. It also says store assets no longer load by default, saving about 250MB on boot, and are dynamically unloaded if the store has not been opened for a minute, saving about 450MB.

Those memory figures are developer-reported changes, not independently benchmarked results or guaranteed gains on every player’s system. The changelist also lists a rare client crash primarily occurring in the Deep Sea, boat issues and animation problems among its fixes; these are selected examples, not a complete fix list.
