In S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl, artifacts form in anomalous fields and are usually invisible until you search with a detector. Treat most finds as random drops tied to an anomaly family—not guaranteed items at a particular coordinate—unless a reliable current guide identifies a fixed spawn. Artifact effects and the community-reported collection count are version-sensitive, so the dated information below is labeled accordingly.
How to find artifacts with a detector
GSC Game World Support explains that detectors provide sound and light signals as you search an anomalous field. Once you reach critical range, the artifact becomes visible and can be picked up.
- Enter an anomalous field carefully and equip or use a detector.
- Follow its signals to narrow the search. The Echo detector gives direction and distance cues through its flashing frequency.
- When you are close enough, the artifact is revealed; approach it and collect it.
Echo or Veles?
Echo helps you home in through directional and distance cues. Veles identifies the artifact’s exact location, which is useful when several anomalies make the search difficult. The official detector guidance supports this precision comparison, but does not establish a price or value advantage for either detector.
Expect anomaly hazards
The detector helps locate the artifact; it does not make an anomalous field safe. Watch for the field’s hazards while closing the distance, and avoid treating a detector signal as proof that the route to the item is clear.

Fixed spawns versus random anomaly drops
Some artifacts are associated with fixed addresses, while other finds are random drops from anomaly types. PCGamesN describes anomaly drops as random, and the FramesGames guide distinguishes those from fixed-address items. For random drops, use the anomaly family and region as search guidance—not as a promise that an artifact will appear at an exact coordinate. Give an exact location only when a current source explicitly supports a fixed spawn.
The available location evidence does not establish a complete, independently verified item-by-item list of current artifact effects and exact locations. A purported comprehensive table that assigns every artifact a precise coordinate would overstate what is verified here.

How many artifacts are there?
A Steam Community guide updated August 8, 2026 reports 69 standard collectible artifacts and six Arch-artifacts. These are the guide authors’ scoped counts, not an official GSC Game World statistic. The guide treats the story-related Heart of Chornobyl separately from those collections, so it should not be silently added to either count.

Artifacts are equipped in armor slots and can provide beneficial or harmful properties. Radiation is an important trade-off: radiation protection can offset radiation from another equipped artifact, while some artifacts may carry harmful effects of their own. Check what an item does before deciding whether its benefit is worth the drawback.

Artifacts can also be sold to merchants. GSC Game World Support says the price depends on the artifact’s rarity and the merchant’s attitude; it does not establish a universal sale price.

Do not assume an older artifact description remains current. Official GSC Game World Patch 1.5 notes document several balance changes: Horn had reduced chemical and radiation protection; Rosin’s weak weight effect was replaced with weak endurance; Shell’s weak radiation effect was replaced with weak endurance. The patch also added the Durability effect, which increases the durability of equipped gear.

FramesGames’ August 2026 update 2.0 reference says the artifact system was largely intact while noting fixes affecting artifact stacking, unreachable spawns, and detection sound settings. Those are secondary-source claims, not a substitute for official update notes. Check the game’s current version and item description when a particular effect matters, especially if following an older list.

What a reliable artifact entry should tell you
- Whether it is fixed or random: a fixed address should be distinguished from a possible anomaly drop.
- Where to search: for random drops, name the anomaly family and region when verified, without implying a guaranteed coordinate.
- Its current effect: include the version or date of the reference, since official patches have changed effects.
- Its drawbacks: account for harmful properties such as radiation as well as the benefit.
