To complete Scholar’s early Remembrance objectives in ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN, start the active Remembrance in Scholar’s Journal before launching its expedition. The first objective sends you to an underground chamber beneath a marsh fort during a Balancers expedition; the next documented objective takes you into the Great Hollow. You need The Forsaken Hollows DLC and the relevant character and expedition unlocks before those steps are available.
Check access before looking for the objectives
Scholar is a DLC Nightfarer from The Forsaken Hollows. Bandai Namco’s December 2, 2025 access instructions say you must defeat Tricephalos to unlock Scholar and Undertaker. The Balancers expedition has further requirements: defeat at least two main-game bosses, including Tricephalos and one other, and make both DLC Nightfarers playable. Check the publisher’s instructions for the current access conditions before setting out.

Scholar’s Journal is in Roundtable Hold. Its progression has nine chapters, but not every chapter advances in the same way: some are earned through expeditions, while Remembrance chapters require you to complete their personal objectives. Scholar’s Journal and the active objective text are the best guides to what is currently available.
For each Remembrance objective, choose Begin Remembrance in Scholar’s Journal before starting the associated expedition. If you launch the expedition first, the personal objective and its map marker may not be active.

First Remembrance: find the Vassal’s Journal below the marsh
Start the objective in Roundtable Hold
- Open Scholar’s Journal and select Begin Remembrance.
- Read the paper on Scholar’s desk. The objective directs you to an underground chamber below the marsh.
- Launch the Balancers expedition only after the Remembrance is active.
Follow the marker into the fort
Use the red personal-objective marker on the map to locate a fort in the poison marsh. A walkthrough places the fort around the northwest part of the map, but the marker is more dependable than a fixed compass direction. Enter the sinking ruin and descend. After the first ledge, look to the right for a lower room with a hole; drop through it and take the Vassal’s Journal from the desk.
Return to the Hold and finish the dialogue
After the expedition, return to Roundtable Hold. The walkthrough reports that you can return after defeating the final boss or after dying. Go to the Chapel and read the Vassal’s Journal on Scholar’s desk. Then speak with Undertaker, speak with the Iron Menial at the Chapel entrance, and speak with Undertaker again. Exhaust the available dialogue option to complete the Remembrance. This awards the Scholar’s Chalice and advances the Journal to Chapter 4.

Next documented objective: the Great Hollow
When Chapter 5 is active, begin its Remembrance from Scholar’s Journal. Speak to the Small Jar and choose the option to be shown to the Great Hollow. This starts the quest section there. The walkthrough warns that dying in the Great Hollow means restarting this section.
Reach the opening above the rafters
- Follow the stairs and walkways upward to the highest level, where a large suspended crystal is visible.
- Find the gap in the railing, jump onto the crystal, and climb from it to the rafters.
- Enter the opening in the brick wall. Wait for the quest message to appear, then leave the opening.
Defeat the Marauder encounter and search the hidden room
Drop down to face the Marauder encounter: two knights and a Godskin Apostle. The walkthrough recommends separating the enemies and using the stairs to manage the fight; that is its suggested approach, not a guaranteed strategy.

After the fight, climb back to the rafters and enter the wall opening again. Interact with the four glowing objects and with the knight sealed inside the large crystal. The walkthrough reports that this completes the objective, returns you to Roundtable Hold, and awards the Cleansing Tear Relic while advancing the Journal to Chapter 6.

Available walkthrough summaries mention a Nightlord defeat, a Balancers expedition, and a later Remembrance involving Dreglord, but they do not establish the full sequence and chapter triggers consistently. For Chapters 7–9, read the active objective in Scholar’s Journal and follow its instructions rather than assuming a trigger based on a summary or chapter number. The detailed route and reward order for those chapters are not confirmed here.
