Yes—an Elden Ring update can stop Seamless Co-op from working until the mod is updated for that game version. Check the game and mod versions first, then make sure everyone in your group is using a matching mod release and test with other mods disabled.
Check whether Seamless Co-op supports your Elden Ring version
Compare the game version shown on Elden Ring’s title screen with the compatibility information in the installed Seamless Co-op release notes. The mod’s Nexus changelog lists version 2.0.0 as compatible with Elden Ring 1.17; its later 2.0.1 entry describes a phantom-colour bug fix and code optimisation, but does not name a newer supported game version. Check the Seamless Co-op changelog before assuming it supports a later Elden Ring build.
Bandai Namco’s patch notes say Elden Ring 1.17 was released on August 27, 2026, and that the update is required for online play. The notes include Steam among the platforms targeted. Read the official version 1.17 patch notes.
Work through these checks in order
- Update Seamless Co-op from its official project page. The project documentation warns that FromSoftware game updates are expected to break mods until the mods themselves are updated. Use the current project instructions and compatibility notes rather than assuming an older release will work with the latest game build. Open the Seamless Co-op documentation.
- Have the whole co-op group align mod versions. The installation guide recommends that a new group update to the latest version together. Check the installed release on each player’s setup before changing saves or other files.
- Test without other mods. Seamless Co-op says it has no intrinsic compatibility with other mods, especially overhaul mods. Follow the project’s clean setup instructions, launch with Seamless Co-op alone, then re-enable other mods one at a time. If the clean setup works, investigate the added mods and whether they support multiplayer. See the mod page’s compatibility and troubleshooting information.
- Follow the documented installation method. Nexus Mods’ Mod Manager is not required, according to the project guide. Use the current installation instructions rather than layering old files over a new release without checking what the guide says.
Use the failure point to narrow the cause
If the game launches but the group cannot connect, confirm first that each player has a compatible, matching Seamless Co-op version. If the launcher fails to open or the game crashes, test the clean setup and then add other mods back individually. These checks help isolate likely causes; they do not guarantee that a particular game, mod, and other-mod combination is supported.

If the issue remains, write down the installed Elden Ring version, Seamless Co-op version, exact error text, whether the launcher opens, when the failure occurs, and which other mods are installed. Those details make it possible to distinguish a version mismatch from a launch or compatibility problem.
