sharenui.dll Errors: Restore ACT! Without a System DLL

Length10 min Posted Quest giverVGSources Team
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

sharenui.dll belongs to ACT. for Windows, not to Windows itself. The safest fix is to repair or reinstall the affected ACT. release from its original or official installer rather than copying a DLL into a Windows system folder.

What this file actually does

sharenui.dll is described as a Non-UI Support DLL for ACT. for Windows. It was historically published by Interact Commerce Corporation and is an application component that ACT. expects to find in its own installation directory.

This is not a normal Windows component. It should not normally be placed in C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64.

Public file catalogues report an older 32-bit Win32 build, commonly identified as version 6.0.0.679 and approximately 288 KB. Those details come from third-party inventories rather than a current official Act. binary record, so do not use them as a substitute for verifying the complete ACT. installation.

A 32-bit ACT. program can run on 64-bit Windows. That does not mean it needs a 64-bit sharenui.dll. The important match is between the ACT. release, its patch level, and all of its companion files.

Windows normally searches the directory containing the application executable when loading an unpackaged application DLL. For that reason, the expected location is usually the ACT. program folder, not a Windows system directory.

Causes and symptoms

What you observe Most likely explanation Best first action
ACT. immediately says the file is missing The ACT. installation is incomplete or damaged Run the original ACT. installer and choose Repair
The problem began after copying ACT. to another computer Only part of the application was copied, or the versions do not match Reinstall ACT. from complete installation media
The error appeared after an antivirus scan The file may have been quarantined Inspect protection history before restoring anything
“The specified module could not be found” appears sharenui.dll or one of its dependencies may be missing Reinstall the complete ACT. release
ACT. worked before an upgrade or uninstall The upgrade removed or replaced shared application files Repair or reinstall the same ACT. release
Only an old ACT. program fails while Windows works normally Windows system corruption is less likely Focus on ACT. before running system repair commands
The file is found outside the ACT. directory It may be misplaced or an unsafe replacement Do not run it; scan and reinstall ACT.
regsvr32 reports a registration error The DLL may not support COM registration Do not treat registration as a repair

Common catalogue-reported messages include:

  • “This application failed to start because sharenui.dll was not found.”
  • “The file sharenui.dll is missing or corrupted.”
  • “A required component is missing: sharenui.dll.”
  • “Error loading sharenui.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
  • “The program can’t start because sharenui.dll is missing from your computer.”
  • “Failed to load sharenui.dll.”
  • “Cannot find sharenui.dll.”

The exact wording can vary by ACT. release and Windows version.

Fix 1: Repair ACT. from its official installer

This is the most likely solution because sharenui.dll is an ACT. application file.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Before changing the installation, back up your ACT. databases and record the ACT. release and licence information. If the program still opens on another computer, note its installation path and patch level.

  1. Close ACT..
  2. Find the original ACT. installer or obtain the matching package from the official Act. download center.
  3. Right-click the installer and select Run as administrator.
  4. If the installer offers Repair, select it.
  5. Keep the original installation directory unless you have a specific reason to change it.
  6. Allow the repair to finish.
  7. Restart Windows.
  8. Start ACT. from its normal shortcut.

A successful repair should restore sharenui.dll beside the ACT. executable and allow ACT. to start without the loader message.

If Repair is not available, continue with a complete reinstall:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Select Apps, then Installed apps.
  3. Find ACT..
  4. Select the three-dot menu and choose Uninstall.
  5. Restart Windows if prompted.
  6. Run the matching ACT. installer as administrator.
  7. Install the same release and patch level if possible.
  8. Start ACT. and test the database.

Do not uninstall until your ACT. data is backed up. If the old program is ACT. v6, use the official legacy ACT. package where it is still listed rather than combining files from several releases.

Do not copy only sharenui.dll from another computer. A matching filename from a different ACT. build can cause entry-point, compatibility, or dependency errors.

Fix 2: Check whether antivirus quarantined the file

A quarantine event is plausible when the error started immediately after a security scan, but it cannot be confirmed without checking the affected computer.

Windows Security

  1. Open Start and search for Windows Security.
  2. Select Virus & threat protection.
  3. Select Protection history.
  4. Look for an event involving ACT. or sharenui.dll.
  5. Expand the event and review the file path and action.
  6. Restore the file only if it is located in the genuine ACT. installation directory and belongs to the expected installation.

Do not restore a file merely because its name matches. Check the path, publisher information, and security product details first. If there is any doubt, reinstall ACT. from trusted installation media instead.

Do not disable antivirus protection just to force a DLL into place. If the same file is repeatedly quarantined, perform a full scan and contact Act. support or your security vendor before allowing it.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Fix 3: Verify the ACT. executable and DLL location

You can identify which program is requesting the file without downloading anything.

  1. Right-click the ACT. shortcut.
  2. Select Properties.
  3. Open the Shortcut tab.
  4. Read the Target field.
  5. Select Open File Location if available.
  6. Look for sharenui.dll in the same application directory.

If the shortcut points to a removed drive, an old user profile, a network location, or a folder that was manually moved, the shortcut may be launching an incomplete copy.

Right-click the ACT. executable, select Properties, and inspect the Details tab. Use the product information to distinguish the genuine installation from a file copied from another location.

If ACT. is installed in a custom directory, keep its application DLLs together. Do not move the executable into another folder while leaving the supporting files behind.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Fix 4: Reinstall the complete matching ACT. release

A restored or migrated ACT. installation may contain the executable but not all of the files it needs.

This commonly happens after:

  • Restoring an old disk image
  • Moving the ACT. folder manually
  • Copying the program to a new Windows computer
  • Removing an earlier ACT. release before installing another
  • Repairing or upgrading ACT.
  • Migrating to a newer Windows installation
  • Mixing files from different ACT. installers

Use the complete installer for the same ACT. release. Do not combine a downloaded catalogue copy of sharenui.dll with files from another version.

If the installer fails:

  1. Sign in to an administrator account.
  2. Copy the installer to a local folder such as C:InstallersACT.
  3. Right-click it and select Properties.
  4. If an Unblock checkbox appears on the General tab, select it and choose Apply.
  5. Right-click the installer again and select Run as administrator.
  6. Temporarily close other installers and database applications.
  7. Confirm that the destination drive has available space.
  8. Review any installation log created by the setup program.

If the installation still fails, record the exact error, ACT. release, Windows version, installation path, and point at which setup stops. That information is more useful to Act. support than a copied DLL.

Fix 5: Do not use regsvr32 as a general repair

regsvr32 is for DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. It is mainly used with certain ActiveX and COM components.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

There is no verified evidence that sharenui.dll is a COM or ActiveX server that requires registration. Therefore, do not use this as a routine fix:

regsvr32 sharenui.dll

A message such as “The module failed to load” can mean the DLL or one of its dependencies is unavailable. It does not prove that registration would repair ACT..

If ACT. needs a particular runtime or registration step, its official installer should perform that step. Reinstalling the application is safer than manually registering an application DLL.

Fix 6: Run DISM and SFC only for possible Windows corruption

SFC and DISM repair Windows components. They do not normally replace a third-party ACT. DLL.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Use them when Windows itself is showing other problems, Windows Update is failing, system applications are damaged, or several unrelated programs report missing Windows components.

  1. Open Start.
  2. Search for Command Prompt.
  3. Right-click Command Prompt.
  4. Select Run as administrator.
  5. Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
  1. Wait for it to complete.
  2. Then run:
sfc /scannow
  1. Restart Windows.
  2. Test ACT. again.

Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC. If both commands report that Windows files are healthy but ACT. still fails, return to the ACT. repair or reinstall path.

Manually hunting through Windows repair steps and repeating SFC or DISM without knowing what changed can be time-consuming. Outbyte PC Repair provides a free scan showing reported issues, while repair actions require the full version; reinstalling ACT. remains the definitive fix for this application-specific DLL.

On Windows 11, another supported recovery option is Settings > System > Recovery > Fix problems using Windows Update > Reinstall now. This reinstalls the current Windows version while preserving apps, files, and settings, but it should not replace an ACT. repair when only ACT. is affected.

Fix 7: Update Windows and check drivers only when symptoms justify it

A missing ACT. application DLL is not normally a graphics, storage, or device-driver problem. Device Manager and driver updates are relevant only if the ACT. failure appeared alongside broader hardware, display, storage, or compatibility symptoms.

First install normal Windows updates:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Select Windows Update.
  3. Select Check for updates.
  4. Install available updates.
  5. Restart the computer.
  6. Test ACT..

To inspect a driver:

  1. Right-click Start.
  2. Select Device Manager.
  3. Expand the relevant category.
  4. Right-click the device.
  5. Select Properties and inspect the General and Driver tabs.
  6. Use Update driver only when the device shows a warning or the manufacturer identifies a compatibility issue.

Manually identifying stale drivers can mean hunting through hardware vendors and guessing which of many versions is relevant. Outbyte Driver Updater provides a free scan showing reported driver issues, while driver installation requires the full version; it is not a replacement for reinstalling ACT. when sharenui.dll itself is missing.

Do not install Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET solely because this filename appears in the message. No verified evidence connects sharenui.dll specifically to those redistributables.

Fix 8: Investigate a dependency error

Windows may report “The specified module could not be found” even when sharenui.dll exists. The missing item can be a dependency that sharenui.dll needs when ACT. loads it.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Check this in order:

  1. Confirm that sharenui.dll is in the ACT. program directory.
  2. Confirm that the ACT. executable and DLL came from the same installation.
  3. Repair or reinstall ACT. completely.
  4. Check antivirus quarantine.
  5. Install pending Windows updates.
  6. Run DISM and SFC only if Windows has additional symptoms.
  7. Contact Act. support if the installer still produces a loader or entry-point error.

Avoid downloading individual runtime DLLs to guess at the missing dependency. A complete ACT. installer is more likely to restore the correct dependency set.

Fix 9: Treat suspicious locations as a security issue

An unexpected copy of sharenui.dll in a temporary folder, Downloads, a user-writable directory, or a location unrelated to ACT. deserves investigation.

Do not launch or replace files in system directories to make the error disappear. Windows DLL search behavior can expose applications to DLL search-path hijacking when an attacker places a malicious library in a directory searched before the trusted location.

If the file is in a suspicious location:

  1. Do not open or execute it.
  2. Right-click the file and select Properties.
  3. Review its path, publisher, and digital-signature information if present.
  4. Run a full scan with Windows Security.
  5. Remove the suspicious copy only after the scan and any required backup.
  6. Reinstall ACT. from official installation media.

Why random DLL downloads are unsafe

Random DLL download sites are not a reliable source for this file. A replacement may contain malware, belong to another ACT. release, have the wrong architecture, or omit dependencies that ACT. also needs.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Public catalogue records also disagree about architecture, and there is no verified official standalone sharenui.dll download. The safe sources are:

  • The original ACT. installation media
  • The official Act. legacy download area
  • The current Act. download center
  • Act. support

Keep the DLL in the ACT. application directory unless the official installer places it elsewhere. Do not copy it into System32 or SysWOW64 by default.

Frequently asked questions

Is sharenui.dll part of Windows?

No. It is associated with ACT. for Windows and should be treated as an application file.

Which program installed it?

The file is associated with ACT. for Windows, historically published by Interact Commerce Corporation.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Is it 32-bit or 64-bit?

Available catalogue evidence points to a 32-bit Win32 file, but it is not confirmed by a current official Act. binary record. A 32-bit ACT. application can run on 64-bit Windows.

Where should it be located?

Normally in the ACT. installation directory beside the ACT. executable. It should not normally be placed in a Windows system folder.

Will regsvr32 fix it?

Probably not. There is no verified evidence that this DLL requires COM registration. Repair or reinstall ACT. instead.

Should I install Visual C++ or .NET?

Not solely for this error. No verified evidence links this particular DLL to a specific Microsoft runtime package.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What if reinstalling ACT. does not work?

Verify that you used the matching release, ran the installer as administrator, checked antivirus quarantine, and did not mix files from different installations. Then inspect the installation log, check the disk for errors, and contact Act. support.

Could the error mean a dependency is missing?

Yes. “The specified module could not be found” can refer to a dependency required by sharenui.dll, not necessarily the named file itself. A complete ACT. reinstall is the safest way to restore the dependency set.

Should I use System Restore?

Use it only when the problem clearly began after a recent application or system change and a suitable restore point exists. It is a recovery choice, not the primary repair for a damaged ACT. installation.
