Choose based on whether you want the immediate combat and loot or would rather keep Greymon available as a later trader at Grymforge.
What happens if you avoid the fight?
The encounter reference lists dialogue routes involving persuasion, intimidation, and deception. One persuasion option requires a character with the relevant brand. The checks and prerequisites differ, so use the dialogue option your character qualifies for rather than assuming every route is available. The Corsair Greymon encounter reference details those options.
If Greymon reaches Grymforge, you can trade with him there. He can also side with Nere if you oppose Nere, so avoiding the boat fight does not necessarily prevent a later confrontation. The encounter reference describes these later interactions.
What do you gain by fighting at the boat?
A fight gives you access to the opposing duergar boat and its watertight chest. A 2024 Destructoid guide to the Intransigent Warhammer places that weapon in the chest. The guide also warns that combat near the water can be dangerous, including the risk of being shoved overboard.

Should you shove Greymon into the water?
Not if you want to loot his body. The encounter reference says that pushing Greymon into the water during the cutscene kills him and sinks his corpse and inventory, leaving them inaccessible. That is different from a shove during battle: Greymon or crew members may wash up by the Decrepit Village pier. The encounter reference distinguishes the outcomes.

The available sources do not establish whether deceiving Greymon has consequences for the myconid colony. A Reddit discussion includes players saying there is no consequence, but that is anecdotal rather than authoritative quest guidance. Treat the colony outcome as unconfirmed.

Which choice should you make?
- Choose dialogue if you want to avoid the immediate battle and keep open the possibility of trading with Greymon at Grymforge.
- Fight if you want the chance to loot the opposing boat’s chest, which the 2024 Destructoid guide says contains the Intransigent Warhammer.
- Avoid the cutscene shove if you want access to Greymon’s inventory; the wiki says that version of the outcome sinks it.
