Skich launched its Android gaming service globally on August 15, 2025, with game discovery, social features and a launcher for installed titles. But at launch, tapping a game sent users to Google Play to install it. Epic Games’ legal fight with Google helped shape the environment for alternative Android stores; the available reporting does not establish a direct partnership between Epic and Skich.
What Skich launched
Skich is a game-focused discovery and organization layer for Android: it helps players find games, keep lists, follow activity and launch titles already on their devices. Skich’s current product page promotes personalized suggestions, more than 200 categories, user-created gamelists, friends’ activity, upcoming releases, a game launcher and playtime tracking. Skich’s product page also presents the service as Android-only in its feature section.
That makes the service more than a simple game directory, but a catalog listing does not by itself mean Skich hosts the installer or processes a purchase. The distinction became clear in the launch version.
How game installation worked at launch
When Skich launched, its game listings reportedly redirected users to Google Play to obtain the game. Players could discover a title in Skich, then rely on Google Play for installation. The launch therefore functioned as a specialized storefront and launcher layer, not a complete independent marketplace replacing Google Play. Android Headlines’ launch report describes that redirect behavior.

The report said Skich intended to onboard developers and move toward direct downloads. That was a planned later phase, not a capability readers should assume was present across the launch catalog.
What Epic’s court case has to do with Skich
Epic’s antitrust litigation against Google challenged the company’s control over Android app distribution and payment systems. That wider legal and competitive pressure is relevant to the prospects for third-party storefronts, including Skich. It did not automatically give Skich permission to distribute every game, supply installers or bypass Android’s installation requirements.

The launch report linked Skich’s direct-download ambitions to legal developments and described uncertainty after an appeals-court pause. That connection is best understood as indirect: Epic’s case contributed to the backdrop for alternative distribution, but the report does not establish that Epic funded, built, endorsed or partnered with Skich.

Skich’s clearest distinction from a general app marketplace is its focus on games and the ways players browse and organize them. Its publicly promoted features include:

These features may suit players who want a gaming-specific library and discovery feed, particularly if they already have many games installed. Their value depends on how useful the recommendations and social features are to the individual player, and whether the launcher fits alongside an existing phone-maker gaming hub.
What developers might gain—and what remains unknown
A gaming-focused service could give developers another way to reach players through discovery, curated lists and social activity. Skich’s reported plan to onboard developers for direct downloads also points toward a possible distribution role beyond referrals.

However, the available sources do not establish Skich’s active-user numbers, install volume, developer revenue, direct-download catalog size or billing terms. A listing may still send a player to Google Play, and a developer would need to weigh another platform’s metadata and support work against any incremental reach. Those commercial outcomes cannot be inferred from the existence of a listing.

Does Skich currently offer direct downloads?
At launch, the reported answer was no across the catalog: game links routed to Google Play, while direct downloads were described as a future goal dependent on developer onboarding and legal developments. Skich’s public homepage, as presented on August 18, 2026, promotes the game catalog, discovery features and launcher, but does not clearly confirm that direct installation has replaced Play Store redirects across its listings. Check the specific game’s listing and installation destination rather than assuming that “store” means Skich hosts its APK.

“Global” also describes the reported Android launch, not guaranteed identical catalogs or functionality in every country. Game licensing, age ratings and availability can vary by market. The reviewed sources do not provide a country-by-country availability list. Nor should readers infer a comparable iOS storefront: Skich’s current feature section identifies Android availability.

Skich’s potential distinction is therefore not simply “another Play Store.” Google Play remained the installation destination at launch, while Skich emphasized game-specific discovery, social organization and launching. OEM hubs can overlap on launching and organizing games, but are tied to supported devices and are not generally independent stores.
What to check before installing or relying on it
- Open the listing for the game you want and confirm where its install button leads.
- Check whether the game is available and compatible in your country and on your device.
- Decide whether Skich’s launcher and recommendations add value beyond the game hub already on your phone.
- Review Skich’s current account, privacy and data practices before enabling social or playtime features.
If a listing sends you to Google Play, that is consistent with the launch-era behavior reported for Skich; it does not mean the link is necessarily broken. A game can also appear in a catalog but be unavailable in a particular region or incompatible with a device.
