Slay the Spire 2 entered Steam Early Access on March 5, 2026. Within hours, it had reached about 177,000 concurrent Steam players, a launch-period roguelike record reported at the time. Its audience grew further over the weekend: PC Gamer later reported a peak of around 575,000 concurrent users, three days after launch. Those are separate milestones, not competing estimates of the same moment.
How many people played Slay the Spire 2 at launch?
Dot Esports reported that Slay the Spire 2 reached roughly 177,000 concurrent players on Steam within hours of its March 5, 2026 Early Access release. The outlet described that first-hours figure as a new record for a roguelike at the time. Its report referenced SteamDB imagery; Valve did not publish an official record announcement for the figure.
The number is a concurrent-player count: players online at the same time, not everyone who had played since launch. It also describes Steam activity, not a total across every platform.
The first-hours milestone was not the later peak
PC Gamer reported that the game’s concurrent Steam audience peaked at around 575,000 three days after Early Access began. That later launch-weekend peak is substantially higher than the roughly 177,000 players reported within the first hours. Keeping the time windows distinct explains why coverage may cite both figures.

PC Gamer also reported Newzoo data showing an average of 1.08 million users per day across the first 11 days. That is an average daily-user measure in Newzoo’s Steam-only data, not a simultaneous-player peak. Likewise, copies sold are a different measure: PC Gamer reported that Mega Crit said the game sold 3 million copies in its first week.
What record did Slay the Spire 2 break?
The first-hours coverage framed the roughly 177,000 concurrent players as a roguelike record at that point. Dot Esports cited comparison figures of 112,000 for Hades 2, 115,000 for Mewgenics, and 57,000 for the original Slay the Spire. The report does not establish that every comparison uses an identical measurement window, so these figures are useful context rather than a definitive, like-for-like platform ranking.

The record claim should be read as a launch-period report, not a permanent current ranking. Player records can change, and neither the first-hours figure nor the later peak is presented here as a direct official Valve record statement. Newzoo, as quoted by PC Gamer on March 24, called Slay the Spire 2 “the best-performing deckbuilder on record” on concurrent players and first-week sales; that broader assessment is attributed to Newzoo, not to a named individual.
