Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →slderrresu.dll is a SOLIDWORKS application file, not a Windows system DLL. If Windows says slderrresu.dll is missing, was not found, or could not be loaded, repair the SOLIDWORKS installation and its language resources instead of copying a DLL into System32.
What slderrresu.dll belongs to
The file is associated with Dassault Systèmes SOLIDWORKS and normally belongs in a SOLIDWORKS language directory. Depending on the installed release and language, the path may resemble:
C:Program FilesSolidWorks CorpSolidWorkslangenglishslderrresu.dll
or:
C:Program FilesSOLIDWORKS CorpSOLIDWORKSlangchinese-simplifiedslderrresu.dll
The exact folder matters. SOLIDWORKS can have several releases installed side by side, and a language directory may be absent because the language component was never installed, was removed, or was damaged.
| What to identify | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| SOLIDWORKS year and service pack | Repair media must match the affected release |
| Language folder in the error | It identifies the resource component SOLIDWORKS is trying to load |
| Full file path | A file in System32, a temporary folder, or an unrelated application directory is suspect |
| Error source | SOLIDWORKS, an installer, an add-in, and Windows Explorer require different diagnosis |
| File status | The DLL may be missing, quarantined, corrupt, or present with a missing dependency |
Historical file records describe slderrresu.dll as a SOLIDWORKS error-resource file, with an older 32-bit version and small file size. Those records do not define the current version, architecture, or specifications for every SOLIDWORKS release.

1. Repair the affected SOLIDWORKS installation
This is the safest and most likely fix for a missing or damaged slderrresu.dll.
- Close SOLIDWORKS and any SOLIDWORKS add-ins.
- Press
Windows, type Control Panel, and open it. - Select Programs and then Programs and Features.
- Select the SOLIDWORKS release named in the error or in the failing path.
- Click Change.
- In SOLIDWORKS Installation Manager, select Repair your installation or Repair the individual installation (on this computer).
- Select the affected SOLIDWORKS product.
- Clear unrelated products if the installer allows you to do so.
- Click Repair and let Installation Manager finish.
- Restart Windows and launch the same SOLIDWORKS release again.
SOLIDWORKS repair checks whether installed files are present and correctly registered, then replaces detected problems. It requires the original installation files and any service-pack files used by that installation. If the installer asks for a source that is no longer available, do not select an arbitrary folder.
How to confirm the repair
Check the original error path. The expected lang<language> directory should now contain the required resource files. Launch the same SOLIDWORKS version, not merely the newest version installed on the computer.
If the error changes from a missing-file message to “the specified module could not be found,” the named DLL may exist but one of its dependencies may still be missing. Continue with the language-component and installation-source checks below rather than downloading another copy.
Outdated Drivers Are Slowing You Down

A path such as langchinese-simplifiedslderrresu.dll points toward a language-resource problem. The required language may not have been installed, or the directory may have been removed during a modification or incomplete update.
- Open Control Panel → Programs and Features.
- Select the matching SOLIDWORKS release.
- Click Change.
- Choose Modify your installation.
- Continue until the product and language selections appear.
- Select the affected SOLIDWORKS product.
- Add the required language or resource component, or clear and reselect it if it is already selected.
- Continue through Installation Manager and allow it to copy the files.
- Restart Windows and test SOLIDWORKS using that language configuration.
Do not copy slderrresu.dll from the English directory into a different language directory. A file from another language, release, or service pack may not match the installation.

SOLIDWORKS installation media is obtained through its Downloads Page or Customer Portal. If you cannot access matching media, contact your SOLIDWORKS reseller.
3. Check antivirus quarantine before restoring anything
Security software can remove or quarantine an application file. This is only a possibility, not proof that the file was malicious.
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Look for an event involving
slderrresu.dllor the SOLIDWORKS installation directory. - Check the reported path and detection details.
- Restore the file only if the path belongs to the legitimate SOLIDWORKS installation and the file is confirmed as part of that installation.
- Run the SOLIDWORKS repair afterward.
Do not permanently disable antivirus protection. Do not restore a file merely because its name matches. A DLL in a temporary folder, a game directory, or System32 is not made trustworthy by its filename.
If the file is present but SOLIDWORKS still cannot load it, inspect the complete error and installer logs. “The specified module could not be found” can refer to a dependency rather than the named DLL itself.
4. Repair Windows components if installation operations fail
Windows system repair commands do not normally recreate a missing SOLIDWORKS DLL. They are useful when Windows servicing or component corruption is preventing Installation Manager from completing.
- Open Start and type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
- Run this command:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Retry the SOLIDWORKS repair.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC. If either command reports that it could not complete, record the exact message and repair SOLIDWORKS from matching installation media rather than repeatedly copying DLLs.

Manually hunting through Windows repair steps and repeating SFC or DISM without knowing what changed can be time-consuming. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for reported Windows problems; its free scan shows what it finds, while repair is performed by the full version. Reinstalling or repairing SOLIDWORKS remains the definitive fix when this specific application file is missing.
5. Verify the release, architecture, and installation source
A 64-bit Windows installation does not by itself tell you whether the required SOLIDWORKS component is 32-bit or 64-bit. Older file records for this name describe a historical 32-bit file, but that is not a universal specification for all SOLIDWORKS releases.
Check these points:
- Read the full path in the error and identify the SOLIDWORKS release that owns it.
- Repair that release, even if another newer SOLIDWORKS version is installed.
- Use the same year and service-pack source when repairing.
- Do not mix files from different releases.
- Do not use a copied file from another computer unless it came from the same SOLIDWORKS build, language package, and supported installation source.
- If the original source was moved or deleted, obtain matching media through the SOLIDWORKS Customer Portal or reseller.
A mismatched source can leave the installation partly repaired while the language directory remains incomplete.
6. Check Windows Features only for a separately named Windows component
slderrresu.dll is not a Windows Optional Feature. Enabling random Windows features will not normally restore it.
If the complete error separately names a Windows component, you can inspect available features as follows:
- Press
Windows + R. - Type:
optionalfeatures
- Press
Enter. - Review the listed Windows Features.
- Change a feature only when the SOLIDWORKS documentation or the exact error identifies it.
- Click OK and restart if Windows requests it.
Do not enable or disable features as a substitute for repairing SOLIDWORKS. The relevant source for this DLL remains the matching SOLIDWORKS installer.
7. Update a driver only when the error identifies a driver problem
A graphics or device driver is not the normal source of slderrresu.dll. Consider driver troubleshooting only if SOLIDWORKS also reports display, hardware-acceleration, device, or driver errors.
Rank #4
- Right-click Start and select Device Manager.
- Expand the device category named by the error, commonly Display adapters.
- Right-click the device and choose Properties.
- Open the Driver tab and note the provider and version.
- Use Update Driver or obtain the driver from the hardware manufacturer.
- Restart Windows and test SOLIDWORKS.
Do not replace a graphics driver simply because slderrresu.dll is missing. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers and show what it finds; the free scan identifies issues, while driver installation is handled by the full version. For this file, repairing the matching SOLIDWORKS installation remains the primary solution.
What not to do
Do not copy the file to System32 or SysWOW64
Those folders contain Windows-managed components. slderrresu.dll is a SOLIDWORKS file and normally belongs under the SOLIDWORKS installation’s lang directory. Copying it into a system folder can hide the original problem and create a wrong-path or wrong-version failure.
Do not download a random DLL
Third-party DLL downloads can contain malware, the wrong architecture, the wrong language, or an old build. Even a genuine-looking copy may not include its dependencies or the installer state SOLIDWORKS expects. Use repair, Modify, matching installation media, or your reseller instead.
Do not run regsvr32 as a general repair
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide the COM registration entry point DllRegisterServer. There is no verified basis to treat slderrresu.dll as a self-registering COM server.
This command is therefore not a normal fix:
regsvr32 slderrresu.dll
It may produce an entry-point or architecture error and does not recreate a missing language resource.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Do not assume Visual C++ Redistributable supplies this file
There is no reliable evidence that this SOLIDWORKS resource DLL is distributed by Visual C++ Redistributable. If the error separately names VCRUNTIME140.dll, MSVCP140.dll, or another Microsoft runtime file, obtain the appropriate package from Microsoft and match the application architecture. That is a separate dependency issue.

Which SOLIDWORKS version should I repair?
Repair the release named by the failing path or error. Do not automatically repair only the newest installed release when multiple versions coexist.
What if the DLL exists but still will not load?
The message may identify a missing dependency. Verify the complete SOLIDWORKS installation, use the matching repair source, and review Installation Manager logs rather than replacing the file randomly.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Should I restore the file from antivirus quarantine?
Only after confirming the original SOLIDWORKS path, publisher, and installation source. Restore it through the security product, then repair SOLIDWORKS.
What if repair asks for unavailable media?
Locate the original download directory, DVD or image, network source, or matching official media. If none is available, contact the SOLIDWORKS reseller and provide the exact error, full path, release, service pack, Windows version, and Installation Manager logs.
Can System Restore fix this?
System Restore may help when the failure clearly began after a recent system change and no suitable installer is available. It is not a replacement for repairing or reinstalling SOLIDWORKS.
