Verdict: Smart Game Booster is a legitimate Windows utility that bundles process management, driver updates, hardware monitoring, cleanup, game launching, network routing and optional GPU tuning. It can be useful on an older or cluttered PC, but its advertised FPS and ping percentages are vendor claims, not typical results established by independent testing. Try the free edition first, measure the change, and treat automatic drivers, overclocking and system-wide cleanup as optional changes that can create problems.
What Smart Game Booster is
The current first-party site promotes Smart Game Booster 6.0 for Windows. It is an optimization toolbox rather than a magic frame-rate generator. Its functions include temporarily closing selected background processes and services, checking or updating drivers, displaying FPS and temperatures, cleaning files, defragmenting hard disks, launching games, checking compatibility, routing game traffic and applying GPU/VRAM tuning. The product site also advertises diagnostics and threat scanning.
There is a version distinction worth making before you install it. Steam lists a Windows utility released on May 11, 2020, with an older feature description and a separate Smart Game Booster PRO DLC. The listing reported roughly 78% positive feedback from about 1,935 all-time reviews when crawled, but Steam reviews measure user sentiment, not controlled performance. Its Windows XP/Vista/7/8/8.1/10 requirements describe that older distribution and should not be treated as the requirements for the current website build. The current product page lists Windows 7, 8/8.1, 10 and 11.
What each feature actually changes

Does Smart Game Booster really improve FPS?
When a boost can plausibly help
- Closing a browser, updater, cloud-sync client or other heavy process can return CPU time and RAM to a game.
- A graphics driver that is substantially outdated or malfunctioning can cause crashes, poor compatibility or missing optimizations; replacing it may fix those specific problems.
- Reducing startup clutter or disk activity can improve general responsiveness on an older PC.
- Overclocking can raise performance in a GPU-limited workload, but the result is specific to the hardware and its thermal headroom.
Why large percentage claims are not a baseline
The product site advertises figures including “up to 30%” or “at least 30%” improvement from GPU/VRAM tuning and other pages use even larger FPS and ping language. These are marketing claims, not independently verified results supplied for a representative set of PCs. If your GPU is already the limiting component, closing a few background processes will not create a dramatic increase in rendered frames. CPU limits, thermals, memory capacity, shader compilation, graphics settings and frame caps can all be the real cause.

How to test instead of guessing
- Restart Windows and record resolution, graphics preset, frame cap, refresh rate and graphics API.
- Run the same benchmark or repeatable route at least three times, recording average FPS, 1% lows, frame-time consistency, CPU/GPU use, temperatures and power behavior.
- Test separately: no booster; basic boost; driver update; network acceleration; GPU/Super Boost; and then the selected combination.
- Keep graphics settings and game updates unchanged. A higher average FPS with worse frame-time spikes is not necessarily an improvement.
Can it reduce ping or packet loss?
The paid network feature advertises more than 500 gaming routes and support for 11 games on the store page. A routing service can help when the normal path between your PC, ISP and a game’s server is congested or poorly peered. It cannot shorten the physical distance to a server, repair overloaded Wi-Fi, make a slow PC render frames faster or guarantee lower latency.
Measure ping, jitter and packet loss separately from FPS. Results vary by game, server region, ISP, route, time of day and the route selected; the vendor itself notes that ping data varies by game and server. A nearby server may perform better through the ordinary ISP path than through an added relay. Check that your game is one of the supported titles and that the route is available in your region before paying for this feature.

Free edition, VIP and SVIP
The current update page lists the free edition as including basic or manual boosting, manual driver updates, manual disk defragmentation, FPS and temperature monitoring, gameplay capture and basic optimization. Feature tables change between promotional pages, so confirm the exact checkout and application labels rather than assuming every advertised function remains free.

A separate official new-user page showed $19.99 for one year and three devices. That difference demonstrates that price, device count and discount terms depend on the campaign or landing page. Is it safe to install and use?
Legitimacy and download hygiene
Smart Game Booster has an official iTop-branded website and a Steam listing, so it is a real distributed product rather than merely a fake download page. That does not prove that every feature works, that every installer mirror is clean or that the software is compatible with every game. Download from the official site or Steam, not a cracked, bundled or unofficial mirror, and scan the installer with current security software.
Overclocking risks
The marketing describes one-click GPU/VRAM tuning and “safe” thresholds, but an overclock is never risk-free for every model. - Record baseline FPS, frame times, temperatures and clock speeds.
- Create a restore point or confirm another recovery method.
- Do not run it alongside another overclocking utility.
- Change one thing at a time and stop at the first artifact, black screen, crash or abnormal temperature.
- Restore GPU defaults before diagnosing a game or driver problem.
Automatic driver updates
Paid tiers advertise automatic graphics and audio driver updates. A new driver can fix a real bug, but newer is not universally better for every game. NVIDIA, AMD and Intel’s own packages provide clearer release notes and rollback paths. Prefer the manufacturer when possible; if you let Smart Game Booster change a driver, create a restore point or retain the previous installer and test one change at a time.
Privacy and diagnostics
The privacy policy says the software may collect a name and email address, feature-usage information, hardware and system version, services, processes, startup items, registry entries, dump files, crash logs, device ID, IP address, browser details, language and website interaction data. The policy displayed on the site is dated June 15, 2019, which is old relative to the current 6.0 promotion. Review the current installer disclosures and permissions, disable telemetry or support-log sharing where offered, and uninstall if you see unwanted startup tasks, browser changes, ads or unexplained network activity. The available evidence does not justify calling the product malware, nor does an official storefront prove complete safety.

Recovery and common failure cases
- A needed process was closed: reopen the launcher, anti-cheat component, overlay, recorder, RGB service or audio tool, then edit the boost list or disable that profile.
- Anti-cheat conflict: turn off overlays, monitoring or tuning for that game and check its rules before retrying.
- Crashes after Super Boost: restore GPU defaults, reboot and retest before changing any other setting.
- Performance worsened after a driver update: roll back through Windows or reinstall the previous NVIDIA, AMD or Intel package.
- Ping increased: disable acceleration and compare the normal ISP route; the relay may be longer.
- Laptop slows down over time: more aggressive tuning can raise heat until thermal throttling reduces sustained clocks, especially on battery.
- Conflicting utilities: avoid stacking several optimizers, driver updaters, overclocking tools or overlays until each combination has been tested.

Use a specialist route-optimization service only when measurements show a routing problem. Compare actual routes, supported games, regional coverage, cancellation terms and before/after jitter rather than server-count marketing.

Skip it or stay with free tools when
- Your modern PC already has current GPU drivers and stable, reproducible settings.
- You need a guaranteed FPS increase or your bottleneck requires a CPU, GPU, RAM or storage upgrade.
- You compete with untouched system settings and do not want automated changes.
- You are uncomfortable with overclocking, broad diagnostics or the age of the privacy policy.
- You use an SSD and are considering the product mainly because “defragging” is marketed as an FPS solution.
Final verdict
Smart Game Booster is best understood as a convenience layer. Its most credible benefits are reclaiming resources from unnecessary background activity, identifying driver or thermal issues and giving you a single monitoring interface. Network routing may help a specific ISP-to-server path, while GPU tuning can help a particular GPU at the cost of heat and stability. None of those mechanisms supports a universal FPS or ping promise.
Try the free version and run repeatable frame-time and network tests before buying. Do not subscribe solely for “up to 30%” claims, and do not enable automatic drivers or Super Boost on a stable system without a rollback plan. Advanced users will usually have more control with Windows Game Mode, first-party NVIDIA or AMD software and focused monitoring tools.
