The reported move followed Vault 13’s October 2024 announcement that it was suspending development. It does not mean the projects merged or that the full Vault 13 team transferred.
What happened to the Fallout: Vault 13 remake?
Fallout: Vault 13 was a fan project aiming to remake the original Fallout in the first-person presentation of Fallout 4. On October 21, 2024, PC Gamer reported that co-lead culinwino had announced an official suspension of development. The report followed a demo released about two months earlier.
The co-lead cited burnout, difficulty recruiting and retaining contributors with niche skills, and personal-life changes among core team members. The announcement described a pause in the project’s development, not a shutdown ordered by Bethesda.
At the time, the team also said it planned to release a full build containing unfinished content and publish a retrospective. Whether either was later released is not established by the available reporting.

Did Vault 13 developers join Project Arroyo?
A March 2025 post on the No Mutants Allowed forum reproduced remarks attributed to TheGamer saying that some of Vault 13’s 3D artists came over to Project Arroyo. Project Arroyo lead Damion Daponte reportedly said the move did not affect his project. Another person, identified as Jon, described the two teams as having collaborated on assets while following different development pathways.
The original TheGamer article was not independently located; these comments are available through the forum reproduction. The report concerns some artists, not the entire Vault 13 team. It does not say Arroyo took over Vault 13, inherited its unfinished build, or continued its remake of the first game.

How Project Arroyo differs from Vault 13
Project Arroyo is a fan-made Fallout 2 total conversion associated with Fallout 4. Vault 13, by contrast, aimed to remake the first Fallout in a first-person format. Their shared connection to Fallout 4 and reported past asset collaboration do not make them one project.
Is Project Arroyo still in development?
The No Mutants Allowed community thread for Arroyo began on January 28, 2019, and describes the project as an attempt to remake Fallout 2 in the Fallout 4 engine. The thread records public project-related posts in February and April 2024, including a location showcase and an “Original VS Remake Comparison” video post, and a May 2025 discussion of redesigned Wanamingos.

No. In PC Gamer’s October 21, 2024 report, Vault 13 co-lead culinwino explicitly ruled out both infighting and a Bethesda cease-and-desist as reasons for suspending development. The stated reasons were team burnout, recruiting and retention difficulties for specialized roles, and personal changes among core contributors.
