Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →No—Sony is not shutting down PlayStation Network. It is retiring selected game servers and connected features. As of August 18, 2026, the affected Sony-controlled services include Tearaway Unfolded’s companion features, inFAMOUS 2 user-generated content, Destruction AllStars online services and LittleBigPlanet 3’s PS4 servers. Each closure has a different effect on offline play, downloads, user creations and virtual currency.
The Sony-controlled closures at a glance
| Game or service | Platform | Status and date | What remains |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tearaway.me for Tearaway Unfolded | PS4 | Companion site and connected features removed permanently on August 13, 2026 | The core game remains playable; uploads, photo-related functions and papercraft features that depended on Tearaway.me do not |
| inFAMOUS 2 user-generated content | PS3 | UGC services scheduled to end August 31, 2026 | The main campaign and other offline features remain playable |
| Destruction AllStars multiplayer | PS5 | Already offline because of ongoing technical issues | Existing users retain certain single-player modes until November 25, 2026 |
| Destruction AllStars remaining server support | PS5 | Ends November 25, 2026, at 15:00 UTC | Arcade Mode single-player challenges may remain available afterward, although Sony warns that functionality and the experience may be affected |
| LittleBigPlanet 3 | PS4 | Servers taken offline after technical problems in January 2024 and kept offline indefinitely | Offline play remains; online services and access to other players’ creations do not |
These dates and feature descriptions come from Sony’s official game-server support page. Sony’s service-status page continues to list account management, gaming and social, PlayStation Store, PlayStation Video and PlayStation Direct as operational.
What each shutdown means
inFAMOUS 2: UGC ends, but the campaign stays playable
After August 31, 2026, the PS3 version will no longer connect to the UGC service. Players will lose the ability to access, browse, upload, download or play user-created missions through Sony’s online servers. The scripted main campaign and offline features are not being removed. Sony’s notice does not establish which trophies, if any, become unobtainable, so trophy consequences should be checked against title-specific documentation rather than assumed.
Destruction AllStars: delisted before the final service deadline
Sony removed Destruction AllStars and its Destruction Points virtual currency from the PlayStation Store on May 26, 2026, at 14:00 UTC. Multiplayer was already unavailable because of ongoing technical issues. Existing owners can use certain single-player modes until November 25, 2026, at 15:00 UTC. After that time, Sony says remaining server support will end; Arcade Mode challenges may still be accessible, but the company warns that functionality and the player experience may be affected.

Destruction Points are a game-specific case. Existing currency can be redeemed within the available single-player modes before the deadline. Do not assume unused points will retain value afterward. Delisting also means new customers cannot buy the game, but delisting alone does not automatically remove an existing license from an account.
LittleBigPlanet 3: an indefinite closure, not a new scheduled date
Technical problems took the PS4 servers offline in January 2024. Sony now says the online services will remain offline indefinitely. Players cannot use the official service to access other players’ creations, while the offline portions of the game remain available. “Indefinitely” is Sony’s wording; it is not a promise of a future restoration date.

Tearaway Unfolded: companion features are gone
The Tearaway.me companion site was removed on August 13, 2026. Connected functions such as uploading in-game photos and unlocking or downloading papercrafts through the service are no longer available. This is a companion-service closure, not a shutdown of the entire PS4 game. Media Molecule has directed players to its website for papercraft resources.
Other PlayStation games losing online services
Not every closure is operated by Sony. Publishers control their own servers, notices and any offline conversion. A summer 2026 tracking list identifies the following examples; they should be treated as publisher-specific schedules rather than PlayStation Network announcements.

Server shutdown, outage, delisting or an unplayable game?
- Temporary PSN outage: Sony’s network or account systems are temporarily unavailable. Check PlayStation Service Status; restarting a console cannot fix a wider outage.
- Game-specific shutdown: One title’s multiplayer, authentication or connected features stop while PSN continues operating.
- Companion-site closure: A website or app disappears, removing linked uploads, sharing or unlocks without necessarily affecting the core game.
- Store delisting: New purchases stop. Existing licenses may remain usable, subject to the game’s server and download requirements.
- Entirely unplayable game: This occurs when essential authentication or gameplay depends on servers and no offline path remains. It must be established for the particular title; it should not be inferred from every server notice.
Digital ownership therefore has separate layers: a license in your account, the ability to redownload it, local offline functionality and access to server-dependent content. Losing one layer does not automatically remove the others.

- Aim and move with precision by swapping in fresh stick modules* so you’re always playing with equipment that’s in great shape. Plus, three types of changeable stick caps help you stay comfortable in-game without sacrificing grip or stability.
- Mappable back buttons The DualSense Edge wireless controller’s two swappable sets of back buttons can be configured to any other button input, so you’ve always got game-changing actions and essential controls at your fingertips.
- Adjustable trigger lengths Manually set the travel distance of your left and right triggers for an optimal experience with whatever you’re playing. Fast-paced FPS? Set a shorter travel distance to shoot faster on the field. Competitive racer? Set a longer travel distance for precise throttle control on the track.
- Remappable buttons Remap or even deactivate specific button inputs, so you can create a completely personalized control setup that’s ideal for the game at hand.
- Quick-swap control profiles Once you’ve found your ideal control settings, you can save them to unique profiles and swap between them on-the-fly, so your favourite configurations are always ready when you are.
What players should do before a deadline
- Launch the game and verify which online functions still work.
- Save or export creations, screenshots, videos and custom content where the game permits it. Capture anything that cannot be exported.
- Download owned add-ons, patches and other redownloadable content while the platform allows it.
- Spend or redeem game-specific virtual currency before the stated cutoff; Destruction Points, for example, are tied to Destruction AllStars’ remaining modes.
- Check online trophy requirements. Sony’s general server notice does not list the trophy impact for every title.
- Keep local save backups where the console and game support them, but do not assume a local save preserves cloud-only progression or server validation.
These are preservation precautions, not guarantees from Sony. Unofficial replacement servers may exist for some games, but they can require unsupported software or modified hardware and are not equivalent to an official service.
How to diagnose a connection failure
When a game stops connecting, check the official PlayStation status page first, then the game publisher’s support page. A regional issue, game update, authentication failure or companion-site retirement can look similar to a permanent shutdown. If Sony or the publisher has decommissioned the service, network resets and console restarts cannot restore it.

Separate issue: PS3 and PS Vita Store closures
Sony has also announced staged PlayStation Store closures for PS3 and PS Vita in some regions. Closures begin in August 2026 in Mexico, Honduras and Nicaragua, with additional Latin American and Middle Eastern markets later in 2026; most other countries are scheduled for July 2027. Sony says previously purchased content will remain downloadable for the foreseeable future. This is a store-availability change, not the same as shutting down a game’s online servers. Details are in the PlayStation Blog announcement.
What to expect from digital game ownership
A purchased game can remain in your library while multiplayer, UGC, cloud features or authentication disappear. Conversely, a delisted title may still work offline for existing owners. Whether a game survives a server sunset depends on its design, local saves, required logins and any offline patch. Sony’s notices do not create a universal refund rule; statutory rights remain subject to applicable law, purchase circumstances and support decisions.
For the latest dates and affected features, use Sony’s game-server list and the individual publisher’s notice. A scheduled retirement can change independently of PSN’s overall operating status.
