The campaign required at least 60 hours of qualifying PS4 or PS5 playtime, but Sony did not say GTA VI caused the limited availability or disclose how many consoles were offered.
What Sony’s PS5 Pro lottery offered
The campaign was limited to Sony Store purchases in Japan. Sony listed the PlayStation 5 Pro model CFI-7100B01, with a 2TB SSD and one DualSense controller, at a suggested retail price of ¥137,980 including tax. The console features advanced ray tracing, sharper and clearer images on 4K televisions, and high-frame-rate gameplay, according to Sony’s Japan campaign page.

Sony planned to email results around October 26. Selected applicants had until November 2 at 11:59 Japan time to complete checkout through Sony Store. These dates and terms are from Sony’s campaign page; the application window has passed.
Is GTA 6 causing the PS5 Pro shortage?
That has not been established. Sony’s campaign says a lottery would be used if applications outnumbered planned units, but it neither identifies GTA VI as a cause nor explains a manufacturing or distribution constraint. It also gives no unit count.
Tom’s Hardware reported strong demand and discussed GTA VI interest as a possible factor. That is third-party context, not a causal explanation confirmed by Sony. The supported description is that Sony introduced a Japan-only PS5 Pro lottery ahead of GTA VI’s November launch.

When does GTA 6 come out, and does it require a PS5 Pro?
Rockstar lists Grand Theft Auto VI for November 19, 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Its official game page says the game “Plays Best On PlayStation 5.” The US PlayStation Store listing labels it “PS5 Pro Enhanced,” but does not say a Pro is required. The label alone does not establish a specific performance advantage over other PS5 models.
For physical buyers, Rockstar Support says the boxed version contains a download code inside the box; it is not described as a disc edition. The support article was last updated August 18, 2026. See Rockstar’s platforms, editions, and versions information.
