Sony’s current U.S. range also includes the newer M10S II, a 1440p OLED esports display rated for 540Hz—and up to 720Hz only at 720p. The right choice depends on whether you value console-friendly 4K detail or exceptionally high PC frame rates.
The three monitors at a glance
| Model | Purpose | Panel and resolution | Maximum refresh rate | Key distinction |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| INZONE M9 II | High-detail PC and console gaming | 27-inch-class IPS/LCD, 3840×2160, full-array local dimming | 160Hz | 4K image quality, HDMI 2.1 and PS5-oriented features |
| INZONE M10S | Competitive PC gaming | 27-inch QHD WOLED, 2560×1440 | 480Hz | Original 2024 esports model, 0.03ms claimed gray-to-gray response |
| INZONE M10S II | Premium esports gaming | 26.5-inch measured OLED (marketed as 27 inches), 2560×1440 | 540Hz at 1440p; up to 720Hz at 720p | Newer model with 0.02ms stated response and a 720p ultra-refresh mode |
The original announcement and its detailed launch specifications are reported by GamesBeat. Current U.S. lineup information is on Sony’s INZONE monitor store. The M10S II should not be treated as a 720Hz 1440p monitor: its 720Hz mode is limited to 1280×720.
INZONE M9 II: the 4K choice for PS5 and mixed use
The M9 II is the practical all-rounder. Its 27-inch 4K LCD/IPS panel, full-array local dimming and 160Hz ceiling target players who want sharp text, detailed environments and HDR-oriented presentation rather than tournament-level refresh rates. Sony lists a 1ms claimed response time, HDMI 2.1, variable refresh rate support, and PS5 features including Auto HDR Tone Mapping and Auto Genre Picture Mode.
Who should buy it
- PS5 owners who want 4K support, HDMI 2.1, HDR handling and VRR in one display.
- PC players of RPGs, open-world games, strategy titles and cinematic single-player releases.
- Users sharing a monitor between gaming, streaming and desktop work.
- Anyone whose graphics card cannot sustain extreme frame rates at 1440p.
Useful gaming modes
Sony also lists a 24.5-inch display mode and overlays such as a crosshair, frame-rate counter and timer, plus a black-equalizer control. A 160Hz panel does not make PS5 games run at 160 frames per second; the console’s game and output limits determine that. On PS5, the value is primarily 4K, HDR, HDMI 2.1 and VRR support.

INZONE M10S: the original 480Hz OLED esports monitor
The M10S trades 4K resolution for speed and OLED contrast. It is a 27-inch 2560×1440 WOLED monitor rated at 480Hz, with Sony’s claimed 0.03ms gray-to-gray response time and a claimed 1,300-nit peak brightness. Sony developed it with input from Fnatic and includes a 24.5-inch mode, a 1:1 1332p mode and other lower-resolution options intended for competitive play.
Best fit
- Competitive PC players of Valorant, Counter-Strike, Overwatch, Fortnite, Apex Legends and similar shooters.
- Users with hardware that can consistently render well above 240 frames per second.
- Players who prefer OLED blacks and rapid pixel transitions over 4K workspace density.
The monitor’s passive cooling and thermal-management design are intended to manage OLED heat and longevity concerns, but Sony’s response-time and brightness figures are manufacturer claims, not independent test results. At ordinary 60–144fps, paying for 480Hz leaves much of the panel’s potential unused.

INZONE M10S II: what the newer model changes
Sony’s M10S II product page and official specifications describe a separate, newer esports model.
- 2560×1440 OLED at up to 540Hz through DisplayPort.
- HDMI operation up to 480Hz.
- Dynamic 720Hz mode only at 1280×720.
- 0.02ms stated response time and a 1,500-cd/m² peak-brightness specification.
- 1,500,000:1 typical static contrast ratio.
- NVIDIA G-SYNC Compatible and HDMI 2.1 VRR support.
- 24.5-inch mode, super anti-reflection film and Fnatic-developed competitive features.
Sony also offers Motion Blur Reduction, but says enabling it halves the refresh rate. The M10S II carries a three-year limited warranty; coverage has limitations, so review the warranty terms rather than treating it as unlimited burn-in insurance.

Resolution or refresh rate: which matters more?
Choose the M9 II when
- You primarily play on PS5 or want one screen for console and PC.
- 4K detail, HDR and desktop sharpness matter more than competitive motion clarity.
- Your GPU cannot drive several hundred frames per second.
- You play visually demanding games where image quality is the main attraction.
Choose the M10S or M10S II when
- You mainly play competitive shooters on a powerful PC.
- Your system can approach 480–540fps in the games you play.
- You value motion clarity and OLED response over 4K resolution.
- You accept paying for a specialized esports feature set.
Refresh rate is not the same as guaranteed input-lag reduction or improved skill. The result also depends on rendered frame rate, CPU and GPU performance, connection standard, display mode, mouse or controller latency, network latency and your sensitivity to motion clarity.
OLED ownership considerations
OLED delivers near-black blacks, very high contrast, fast pixel response and wide viewing angles. It can also vary in brightness depending on scene and sustained window size. Burn-in or image retention remains a consideration for static taskbars, desktop windows, HUDs and tournament interfaces left on screen for long periods.

Sony describes the M10S II’s heat sink and related controls as supporting OLED longevity, not eliminating risk. Buyers should check the limited-warranty exclusions and plan to use screen-saving, pixel-refresh or other panel-care functions where provided.

Maximum refresh modes require the appropriate GPU output, cable and monitor input. Sony specifies DisplayPort operation from 24–540Hz and HDMI operation from 24–480Hz for the M10S II; its 720Hz mode is 720p. A monitor supporting a mode does not mean every game or console can render at that rate.

Quick Recap
Which Sony INZONE monitor should you buy?
- PS5 or mixed console/PC use: choose the M9 II for 4K, HDMI 2.1 and broad-use image quality.
- Competitive PC gaming on a very fast system: choose the M10S II if 540Hz at 1440p—and its 720p-only 720Hz mode—matches your games and budget.
- High-refresh OLED esports at a lower current price: consider the original M10S, remembering that it is 480Hz rather than 540Hz.
- Older or mid-range hardware: a less expensive 240Hz or 360Hz 1440p monitor may deliver better value than either M10S model.
