Sony’s PlayStation 3 became available in the Philippines on 27 March 2010, with two console configurations priced at PHP 18,999 and PHP 20,999. The local launch also introduced the PSP-3006 handheld. This was Sony’s Philippine market entry—not the PS3’s worldwide debut.
When did the PS3 launch in the Philippines?
Sony Computer Entertainment Asia (SCE Asia) said PlayStation 3 and PSP systems would be available in Philippine stores from 27 March 2010. The company announced its entry into the Philippine market on 29 March, two days after that stated availability date. Sony described the Philippines as the ninth country and region in its Asian territories. Sony’s announcement framed the move as bringing its entertainment systems and services to local consumers.

Sony described both as streamlined consoles with a textured surface. The announcement listed Blu-ray disc and PS3 game playback, internet connectivity, and hard-drive storage for games, music, photos and movies. It did not state a performance difference between the two storage configurations. SCE Asia’s release is the source for the model and feature descriptions.
What else launched alongside the PS3?
Sony also introduced the PSP-3006 handheld, with a suggested retail price of PHP 9,999 including tax. The announcement excerpt did not specify its storage capacity. SCE Asia cited more than 60 million PSP-family sell-in units worldwide since the PSP-1000 launched in 2004; that was a global company figure, not Philippine sales. The announcement also described games, music and movies as content available through the platforms.

How did the Philippine launch fit into the PS3 rollout?
The PS3’s international release began years earlier. Sony’s 2007 annual report gives this launch chronology:
- 11 November 2006: Japan.
- 17 November 2006: North America and some Asian countries.
- 23 March 2007: Europe.
- 27 March 2010: Sony’s stated Philippine store-availability date for PS3 and PSP systems.
- 29 March 2010: SCE Asia’s announcement of its Philippine market entry.
Sony reported shipping 5.5 million PS3 units worldwide in the fiscal year ended 31 March 2007. That figure reflects worldwide shipments in that fiscal year, not Philippine sales. The dates and shipment figure come from Sony Corporation’s 2007 annual report.

How did Philippine PS3 pricing change later?
In August 2011, Sony Computer Entertainment Hong Kong announced a price reduction for a different Philippine configuration: the 160GB PS3’s suggested retail price fell from PHP 17,999 to PHP 15,999. Those figures apply to the 2011 160GB model, not the 120GB and 250GB consoles announced in 2010. Sony’s 18 August 2011 announcement gives the later prices.
