Sony announced its PULSE Elevate wireless desktop speakers on September 24, 2025, but they are not available yet. As of August 18, 2026, Sony says only that the speakers are launching later in 2026; it has not published a U.S. price, pre-order date, or exact release date. The battery-powered stereo speakers are designed to deliver PlayStation Link audio for PS5 and PC without requiring a headset.
What are the Sony PULSE Elevate speakers?
PULSE Elevate is Sony Interactive Entertainment’s first PlayStation-branded wireless stereo speaker system for desktop gaming. It expands the PULSE family beyond the PULSE 3D headset, PULSE Elite headset, and PULSE Explore earbuds.
The product is aimed at players who use a PS5 or PC at a desk and want open-air game audio, but do not want to wear headphones constantly. Sony also lists compatibility with Mac, PlayStation Portal, and compatible Bluetooth devices.
The original announcement came during a PlayStation State of Play presentation on September 24, 2025. This is therefore not a new August 2026 reveal; the current news is that the speakers remain unreleased while Sony continues to target a 2026 launch.

Key features
- Planar magnetic drivers: Each speaker uses a planar magnetic driver. Sony says this design is intended to provide detailed, full-spectrum audio.
- Built-in woofers: Each unit also includes a woofer for bass reproduction.
- PlayStation Link: Sony’s low-latency, lossless wireless audio system is the primary connection for PS5 and compatible computers.
- Bluetooth: Compatible phones and other Bluetooth devices can connect wirelessly.
- Rechargeable batteries: The speakers are designed to operate without a permanent power cable.
- Charging docks: Included docks are intended to keep the speakers ready on a desk between uses.
- Built-in controls: Sony has shown volume controls, a mute control, a status indicator, and a PlayStation Link pairing or switching button.
- Adjustable orientation: Each speaker can be tilted or positioned to suit the desk setup.
- Integrated microphone: The right speaker includes a microphone with Sony’s claimed AI-enhanced noise rejection for voice chat.
- Colors: Sony has announced Midnight Black and White versions. White availability may vary by country and retailer.
Sony’s June 2026 hands-on report says the rechargeable battery provides up to 12 hours of play. That is a manufacturer claim, not an independently measured result.
How PULSE Elevate connects to PS5
The intended PS5 connection is PlayStation Link. Sony’s announcement says a PlayStation Link USB adapter compatible with USB-C ports will be included. PlayStation Link is different from ordinary Bluetooth: Sony positions it as the option for lower latency and lossless wireless transmission.
The final retail package and setup instructions should be checked when the product launches. Sony has not yet published the definitive PULSE Elevate support documentation, so existing PULSE Elite connection instructions should not be treated as proof that every PS5 menu or setup step will be identical.

PULSE Elevate is primarily a near-field desktop system. It should not automatically be considered a replacement for a living-room soundbar, television audio system, or full home theater.
PC and Mac compatibility
Sony lists PULSE Elevate for PC and Mac use through PlayStation Link and Bluetooth. A computer using PlayStation Link will need a compatible USB connection for the wireless adapter. Sony’s PC accessories information describes the PlayStation Link USB adapter as the connection method for its computer-compatible PULSE products.
Sony says EQ, sidetone, volume, and microphone settings can be customized through PS5 or PC interfaces. However, the product page marks PC customization options as becoming available after launch. Buyers should not assume that every PC control will be present on day one.
Bluetooth may be convenient for a computer or phone, but compatibility with Bluetooth does not mean that Bluetooth will provide the same latency or lossless performance Sony claims for PlayStation Link.
PlayStation Portal and phone support
Sony says PlayStation Link can connect PULSE Elevate with a PlayStation Portal remote player. The speakers are an external audio accessory rather than a built-in Portal speaker replacement, making them most relevant to Portal use in a bedroom, office, or other personal space.

Bluetooth can connect the speakers to a smartphone or another compatible device. Sony also says PlayStation Link and Bluetooth audio can operate simultaneously. In principle, this could let a player hear game audio while receiving a phone call or listening to another Bluetooth audio source.
What does “wireless” mean?
PULSE Elevate appears to be wireless in two ways:
- Wireless audio: Game and other audio can be transmitted through PlayStation Link or Bluetooth.
- Wireless power: Built-in rechargeable batteries allow the speakers to be moved away from their charging docks.
The docks are intended to make battery-powered speakers practical as permanent desktop equipment. Sony has not confirmed whether the speakers can be used while charging, how long charging takes, or whether the docks provide wired audio rather than power only. Those details remain open until the final manual or independent testing is available.
What the microphone could add—and what it cannot prove
The right speaker’s microphone is meant to provide headset-free voice chat. That could be useful for casual multiplayer sessions or for players who find headsets uncomfortable.

However, a speaker-mounted microphone has a more difficult acoustic job than a microphone positioned close to the player’s mouth. Game audio can feed back into the microphone, particularly at high volume or in a reflective room. Sony’s AI-enhanced noise-rejection claim does not establish that the microphone will outperform a close-positioned headset microphone.
Independent testing should assess voice clarity, keyboard noise, fan noise, echo, and pickup distance at low, medium, and high speaker volumes.
What remains unknown
Sony’s official U.S. product page still says “launching 2026.” A June 2026 hardware update describes the speakers as arriving later in 2026 and says pricing and pre-order information will be announced later. As of August 18, 2026, these important details remain unconfirmed:
- U.S. MSRP
- Exact release date
- Pre-order date
- Frequency response, output power, maximum volume, and distortion figures
- Real-world battery life
- Whether the speakers support USB audio, analog input, optical input, or only PlayStation Link and Bluetooth
- Whether the docks support audio or power only
- Whether the speakers can operate indefinitely while docked or charging
- EQ storage and switching behavior
- Support for Dolby Atmos, PS5 3D audio modes, or other spatial-audio formats
- Whether they can connect directly to a television without a PS5 or USB adapter
- Complete PC software functionality at launch
Sony’s claims of lifelike sound, lossless audio, ultra-low latency, and AI-enhanced noise rejection are specifications or marketing claims—not independent performance results. Planar magnetic drivers are an interesting hardware choice, but driver type alone does not determine sound quality; tuning, cabinet design, amplification, placement, and room acoustics matter too.

Who should be interested?
PULSE Elevate makes the most sense for a buyer who:

- Values PlayStation Link integration and low latency
- Wants one speaker pair for PS5, PC, Mac, Portal, and compatible mobile devices
- Needs speakers that can be moved around rather than permanently wired desktop monitors
- Wants voice chat without a headset
Who should wait or choose something else?
Wait for the price and reviews if you already own good powered speakers, need room-filling sound, require analog or optical inputs, are sensitive to wireless interference, or expect complete PC software support immediately.
Conventional powered desktop speakers may be better for continuous operation, broad device compatibility, wired inputs, and value. A soundbar or compact home-audio system is more suitable for television gaming and wider room coverage. Neither option necessarily provides PULSE Elevate’s combination of PlayStation Link, battery-powered portability, integrated chat, and simultaneous Bluetooth.
Alternatives in Sony’s audio range
PULSE Elite
The PULSE Elite is the better fit for private listening, late-night play, competitive gaming, and a microphone positioned close to the user. It also supports PlayStation Link and Bluetooth. Its drawback is the same as any headset: it must be worn.

The PULSE Explore earbuds suit users who prioritize compact, private audio and Portal portability. They share the PlayStation Link ecosystem but do not provide open-air speaker sound or room ambience.
Conventional powered speakers
Traditional powered speakers are worth considering if lower cost, wired reliability, continuous power, analog or USB inputs, and broad compatibility matter more than PlayStation-specific integration. Their value cannot be compared fairly with PULSE Elevate until Sony announces a price and independent testing establishes performance.
Bottom line
PULSE Elevate is a distinctive PlayStation accessory rather than simply another pair of desktop speakers. Its proposed combination of PlayStation Link, Bluetooth, rechargeable batteries, charging docks, planar magnetic drivers, woofers, and headset-free voice chat could be especially useful for PS5 and PC desk setups.
But the buying decision is not settled yet. Sony has announced the product and continues to target a later-2026 launch, while its U.S. price, pre-order date, exact release date, final specifications, and real-world performance remain unknown. Anyone considering PULSE Elevate should wait for those details before treating it as an available product or assuming it will replace a headset, soundbar, or established powered speakers.
