The report said September’s total was down 12% year over year, but this tracker-based estimate is not an audited monthly revenue statement from Cloud Imperium Games (CIG).
What was reported for September 2026?
Massively OP reported that Star Citizen gained about $8 million in September 2026, attributing the estimate to the CCU Game dashboard via The Nosy Gamer. That is the reported month-end figure; it should be read as a third-party tracker estimate, not as a company-confirmed accounting total.
The same report put September 12% below September 2025 on a year-over-year basis. It also reported a 1.3% decline for the third quarter, while noting that the broader financial picture was incomplete because CIG’s UK filing was still outstanding at the time.
Why an earlier September figure was much lower
A Reddit community post relaying a September 16 snapshot put funding at $2.81 million to date, compared with $9.32 million at the same point in 2025. Those are interim, community-posted figures—not the month-end estimate cited by Massively OP. Comparing a mid-month snapshot with the reported full-month total would mix different cutoffs.

For context, The Nosy Gamer reported $8.5 million in cash-shop sales for August 2026. That August figure is separate from September’s estimate and does not establish September’s product-by-product breakdown.
What the funding figure measures—and what it does not
The September estimate comes through a third-party funding tracker and secondary reporting, rather than an official monthly financial statement. The sources do not establish its detailed gross-versus-net accounting treatment, provide a company-confirmed September breakdown, or explain why the year-over-year comparison changed. It is therefore more precise to call it reported tracker-based funding than audited revenue.

RSI’s terms describe pledges as contributions toward development and operating costs, with selected in-game items or Squadron 42 as the corresponding entitlement. The terms state: “You do not purchase anything, you make a pledge towards the development of the Game and the other RSI Services.” They also say pledge funds cover game development and production, pledge items, operating and hosting costs, and related corporate expenses. That framing explains why a pledge total should not automatically be treated as conventional sales revenue.
