Does Battlefront Classic Collection have crossplay?
The official sources cited here do not confirm cross-platform matchmaking across PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch and PC. That is not proof that cross-platform play is unavailable; it means the documented claim is narrower. Aspyr’s PlayStation feature announcement says PS4 and PS5 players can play together, describing this as “cross-gen multiplayer.” Aspyr’s PlayStation Blog announcement does not establish that PlayStation players can join Xbox, Switch or PC players.
The distinction matters: cross-generation play connects different generations within a console family, while cross-platform play connects different platform families. If you are choosing where to play with friends, do not assume that a shared online player pool exists across all six listed platform options. Confirm compatibility for your particular platforms before buying for a group.
Why broader cross-platform play would matter
The collection brings back two older games—Star Wars Battlefront (2004) and Star Wars Battlefront II (2005)—with online modes advertised for up to 64 players. That figure is a published maximum, not a current population count or a promise that every match reaches 64 players. StarWars.com’s announcement promotes restored online play, but the maximum alone says nothing about how many people are playing now or whether players on different platform families share matchmaking.

A broad cross-platform pool could make it easier for friends on different systems to meet online and could reduce the risk of splitting a modest audience among separate platform pools. That is the feature’s potential value, not a confirmed description of how this collection works. The official material cited here does not provide current player counts or establish the size or health of any platform-specific pool.
What the collection includes beyond online play
The package combines both classic games and adds content. StarWars.com’s release announcement lists Jabba’s Palace for the first Battlefront, and Bespin: Cloud City, Rhen Var: Harbor, Rhen Var: Citadel and Yavin 4: Arena, plus playable Asajj Ventress and Kit Fisto, for Battlefront II. It also includes the games’ campaigns and Galactic Conquest, and expands Hero Assault to all ground maps. Aspyr’s PlayStation feature breakdown counts 17 maps for Battlefront; for Battlefront II, it lists 22 ground maps, six space maps, and nine additional space maps exclusive to the single-player campaign and Galactic Conquest.

Online play is not the only way to use the collection with other people. Steam lists online PvP, LAN PvP and shared/split-screen play on its store page. Nintendo’s listing also notes online and local multiplayer options, while warning that a Nintendo Switch Online membership and Nintendo Account are required for Switch online features, that internet access is required, and that additional accessories may be needed for multiplayer. Those requirements are Switch-specific; Nintendo does not name a required controller model. Nintendo’s listing has the platform details.

Aspyr acknowledged substantial network problems at launch. In a March 19, 2024 support update, it said critical network-infrastructure errors led to high ping, matchmaking errors, crashes and servers missing from the browser. Aspyr’s update describes the problems and its effort to improve network stability.

Aspyr’s Update I notes, updated March 29, 2024, said dedicated-server multiplayer had received “ample changes behind the scenes” and that players should expect a better experience across consoles. The notes also list multiplayer and split-screen fixes. Update I’s patch notes document those dated changes.
Update III, released July 17, 2024, was described as available on all platforms and included server-stability improvements along with fixes touching split-screen and multiplayer bugs. Aspyr’s Update III notes are the latest patch notes cited here. They show that fixes were made; they do not establish live server health, matchmaking quality or later patch history as of October 2026.

What to check before buying for a group
- Match the platform family. PS4 and PS5 cross-generation multiplayer is explicitly documented. Cross-platform play between console families and PC is not confirmed by the official sources cited here.
