Fuse Games CEO Matt Webster says Star Wars: Galactic Racer asks more of players than any racing game the studio has made before. In an interview with GamesRadar+, he pointed to multiple boost options, pressing more than one face button at once, switching abilities, and making strategic and tactical decisions while moving at very high speed. The game launched on October 6, 2026, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

What Webster actually said

In the GamesRadar+ interview, published October 8, 2026 by Scott McCrae, Webster described the demands of the game in these words:

“We are asking way more out of players in this game than I think we’ve ever done in a racing game with multiple boost things, pressing more than one face button at a time, switching up the abilities, and thinking strategically and tactically at the same time whilst traveling at 700 kilometers an hour and your eyes are on stalks.”

The shorter headline phrasing, “we are asking way more,” is a trimmed version of that sentence. Webster also said: “One of the things that’s really interesting for me is that modern gamers can manage a greater amount of cognitive load.” That is his personal view of players, not a study or measured finding, and the interview does not cite data behind it.

#1 Best Overall
Star Wars Galactic Racer - PlayStation 5
  • COMPETE IN HIGH-STAKES RACES - Slam, shunt, and takedown rivals across varied circuits as you pilot land speeders, speeder bikes, skim speeders, and pod racers. The greater the risk, the greater the reward.
  • SURVIVE A DANGEROUS UNDERGROUND SPORT - Join The Galactic League - an unsanctioned racing circuit born in the lawless Outer Rim. Become Shade, a lone racer chasing revenge and glory.
  • BUILD AND CUSTOMIZE YOUR CRAFT - Pilot different classes of repulsorcraft each with distinct physics and playstyles. Build a ride that showcases your style and gives you a competitive edge.
  • BATTLE RIVALS IN MULTIPLE GAME MODES - Ride solo through a story-driven campaign of shifting alliances or brave strategic PvP grudge matches where reputation rides with you.
  • CLIMB THE RANKS AND EARN REWARDS - Prove yourself through intense rivalries and escalating challenges. Every choice shapes your prospects as you build your status in The Galactic League.

The specific demands he named

Read together, the quotation breaks down into four separate pressures on the player:

  • Multiple boost options. Webster refers to more than one boost type, so speed management is part of the driving task rather than a single button press.
  • Simultaneous face-button presses. Some actions require pressing more than one face button at a time.
  • Ability switching. Players change abilities mid-race, adding a decision layer on top of steering.
  • Strategic and tactical thinking at speed. Webster says these decisions happen at the same time as the driving itself, at roughly 700 kilometers per hour as his phrasing puts it.

GamesRadar+ adds two further details. It describes wall contact as potentially destructive, and says the campaign allows three vehicle destructions before a run ends. These are the interview’s description of the game. They are not based on hands-on testing by this site.

The Burnout connection

GamesRadar+ says Fuse Games was formed by people with Criterion Games experience, and it ties the new game to the Burnout 3 and Burnout Revenge lineage. That is a link through people and design history. It does not make Galactic Racer a Burnout sequel, and the interview does not present it as one.

The headline’s “25 years after Burnout” framing is also worth reading carefully. The interview connects the team to Burnout, but it does not calculate a specific anniversary. If you need an exact year for a particular Burnout release, check that title’s own release history rather than inferring it from this article.

How to read the “more demanding” claim

Webster’s statement is a comparison made by the studio head, not an independent measure of difficulty. It tells you what the developer intended the player to juggle: boost timing, button combinations, ability choices and route or tactical decisions at speed. It does not tell you how hard the game is for a typical player, how long a learning curve takes, or how it compares with rival racers in numbers. Those questions can only be answered by playing the game or by reviews that report hands-on experience.

Star Wars: Galactic Racer is available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, and the interview describes it as a runs-based racing game where wall contact and vehicle destruction shape each attempt.
